Derek Rose, a special guest on the FPI podcast, talks about his basketball journey. He started playing at a young age and chose basketball over football. He attended the University of Memphis and played for the NBA teams Bulls and Knicks. His best attribute was creating space on the court, but he struggled with injuries, including tearing his Achilles. His favorite teammate was Joaquim Noah. The injury set him back in his prime. Welcome to the second episode of the FPI podcast. Today we are here joined by our very special guest, Derek Rose. Hey guys, what's up? Hey Derek Rose, I was wondering, when was the first time that you played basketball? I first started playing when I was like around, when I was a very young age, I was around four years old. Four years old? That's pretty wild. Did you play any sports when you were growing up? I played football when I was younger. I played it until high school, but then I stopped and just pursued my passion of basketball. Why? I just thought basketball was just a better sport for me. What college did you go to? I went to the University of Memphis. I played basketball there and I got recruited to the NBA. That's a pretty good college or university. What NBA team was your favorite? Growing up, I was up to the Bulls. I was with Michael Jordan playing. I wanted to be on it. And you clearly fulfilled that dream. What team did you play on? I played for the Bulls and the Knicks. What was your best attribute for basketball? I feel like just me creating space on the court and having my vision. What was your worst attribute for basketball? I think I'm just injury prone. I would get injured all the time. I could definitely see how that happened since you teared your Achilles. Who is your favorite teammate? It probably has to be Joaquim Noah. That's pretty funny because my first name is Noah. Cool, that's actually really cool. How far do you think your injury put you back? I think it put me pretty far back knowing I was just getting set in my prime. I think it set me pretty far back. Thank you for joining us on this lovely podcast, Derek Rose. No problem. Great having you.
