Jaden Mackey, from Kelowna, British Columbia, wants to learn about the culture and history of the First Peoples of Canada. He recognizes the importance of understanding their identities and wants to connect with their cultures. His three learning goals for the course are to understand the role of First Peoples in today's world, learn about their beliefs and values, and promote equality for all. Hi, my name is Jaden Mackey and I'm from Kelowna, British Columbia. My parents are Stephen and Jennifer Mackey. Stephen, my dad, was born in Ocean Falls, B.C. My mom, Jennifer, was born in Victoria, B.C. I recognize that I'm currently on the unceded land of the Silks Okanagan people and I honor and respect their traditional lands upon which I live, work, and play on. I took this course as an opportunity to further develop my understanding towards First Peoples and to gain an insight on their culture, way of life, and their identities. I want to learn about what happened in the past, all the stories and tales about how their cultures became to be. Overall, I want to be able to connect with the cultures and identities of the First Peoples of Canada. My three learning goals for this course are to grasp the main idea of how First Peoples play a huge role in our world today, to learn about the beliefs and values of the many First Peoples cultures in Canada, and to gain an understanding of how important it is to make sure that everyone is treated equally, no matter your race, religion, or background. Thanks.
