In this podcast, Fatima discusses the importance of sustainable innovation. She explains that innovation is crucial for a company's success, but traditional forms of innovation can have negative effects on employees and the environment. For example, capsule coffee machines are popular but result in a large amount of plastic waste. Sustainable innovation aims to address these issues by creating products and services that benefit both the company and society. It involves making intentional changes to generate long-term social and environmental benefits while still being economically profitable. Hi, this is me, Fatima Alketbi, and this podcast for the final project of developing of multimedia materials. In this audio, I will define the meaning of sustainable innovation. Innovation is vital for a company's survival and growth. Firms that don't innovate fall behind their competitors and ultimately go out of business. However, traditional forms of innovation may result in profitable products, services, and processes, but also harm employees or overexploit natural resources. Think of the capsule coffee machines which let us have cafe-quality coffee at home at the touch of a button. They're so popular that 40% of U.S. coffee drinkers own one or more, but as a result, every minute, 29,000 plastic capsules are dumped in landfill sites. Sustainable innovation seeks to address those unintended social and environmental impacts. It implies that companies can provide products and services that are good for themselves and for society. In the long term, sustainable innovation involves making intentional changes to a company's products, services, or processes to generate long-term social and environmental benefits while creating economic profits for the firm.
