Hello and welcome to the F1 FunCast, the only Formula One podcast designed to teach your host all the things about Formula One they wouldn't teach me in school. I'm James Messer, you're riding on board with me today. What do you say we turn those lights out and get this party started? That's right, welcome to the first and introductory episode of the F1 FunCast. Like it says in the introduction, my name is James Messer and I am your host here at the F1 FunCast. And I just want to talk to you a little bit about what I'm going to be doing here. And basically, I am your average newbie bandwagon F1 fan. I started watching when the Drive to Survive Netflix documentary came out a couple years ago, and we've been hooked ever since in my house. My wife and I try to watch every qualifying, every race weekend, every update we can online, but we have a lot to learn. We've got a long way to go. And I'm not a gearhead. I'm not a car buff. I'm not a racing guy. But something about Formula One has struck me. And I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can, with the help of you listeners out there. You know, I have some family and friends who are really, really into Formula One, and it's been helpful to lean on them these past couple of years. But you know, it's going to take some time for me to feel confident getting up to speed with all the technical and more intricate aspects that go along with the sport. So here, we're going to start by talking about the things that you can see with your naked eye. You know, the stuff that happens in Formula One that you can tell just by turning the TV on and watching the weekend, what's going on. You know, for example, you could just feel Red Bull's dominance in 2023 after the first turn in Bahrain. You know, you could just see it. And we'll be talking about how McLaren can possibly get themselves back to some sort of form that will be, you know, respectable again, and what it's going to take to get there and why Ferrari, in my mind, you know, seems like that team that's always right there. And there's an issue, there's always something going on. You know, they had the shakeup this year with the team principal. And but here we are again, heading into another race week with more drama surrounding Ferrari's reliability. So it's things like this, you know, the stuff that you can just tell with the naked eye. If people want to talk about Formula One, or you want to call in or you want to send an email, text, tweet, I would certainly encourage you to do that because I don't know anything about the sport. I guarantee if you're listening to this, you know more than I do. And I'm looking forward to hearing from you where you can call in or write in and tell me what's wrong or what I messed up and where I could learn more because that's part of, you know, the beauty of this is it's a great sport with a great fan base and people are really, you know, into it and supportive. It's something I really want to pursue going forward, but I won't be able to do it without your help. So, you know, it's going to be an interesting year and we're going to update this pod on a weekly, if not more frequent, basis. And if anybody would like to come in and think about being a co-host or, you know, a special guest on the microphone, we'd love to have you in here. Otherwise, it's just going to be me screaming into my microphone about the things that I see going on in the Formula One world. So, that's what we're doing here on the F1 FunCast. You know, if you want to find a podcast that is going to talk to you about those very specific nuts and bolts of a Formula One car or, you know, the very technical aspects of, you know, how these cars are making these gains, I may not initially be able to, you know, help you. But if you want to be a listener and call in and write in and text in and let me know how these gains are being made, I'd love that information and I'd love to be able to share that with my listeners. You know, I was a school teacher. I was a...worked at a bank. Not a lot of car experience. I'm no mechanic, but I do love the sport from what I've seen so far and I'd love to eventually look back on this introduction and say, wow, how little did I know about Formula One when I started and how far my knowledge has grown since then. So, this is going to be a collaboration between you, the listener, me, the broadcaster, and whoever else might want to add their two cents. So, thanks for checking it out and hopefully you'll give that first episode a listen. I think we're going to be talking all about Red Bull Racing and the Red Menace, as we call them in my house, because I want to get that over with. It seems like we'll be talking a lot more about the midfield and the race for second place this year then. So, thank you for checking me out and away we go!
