The transcription discusses two paintings - Altar Frontal Avia by Barreiroa and The Blindfolded Man by Marlene Dumas. Altar Frontal Avia is a romanesque style painting that depicts the Virgin Mary and Jesus in four acts, representing important events in Jesus's life. The painting also incorporates the infantry cycle, symbolizing people gathering around and comforting Jesus. The painting may have been influenced by the Crusades and could have a deeper meaning related to how we care for children. The Blindfolded Man, created in 2007, shows a blurred image of a man with a violent atmosphere. It was inspired by a police brutality incident in the Netherlands. The blurriness adds to the painting's impact, making it seem like the man is being tortured. Both paintings have a story behind them, with Altar Frontal Avia focusing on religion and The Blindfolded Man addressing politics. Overall, the paintings demonstrate the depth and significance of art. Hello and join me today in my time machine as we go back in time to 1200 CE. Today I will be discussing a painting called Altar Frontal Avia by Barreiroa. This painting was created in 1200 CE. The place of origin has not been found but people believe that it was created in the province of Lareda which was in the country Spain. Now you might be wondering what's so special about this painting. Well it was successfully able to show a romanesque style by adding a religious story into the painting. Now you might be wondering what religious story? Well before I tell you that let me tell you some context so you can understand it a little bit better. A major event that happened was the crusades and this was mainly a battle between the Christians and the Muslims and having this battle be so close to Spain could have influenced this painting because it was about uh Christianity and the Virgin Mary and Jesus. Now that you know some context let me tell you a little bit more about the painting and what it shows. In the painting it shows the Virgin Mary holding her son in four different acts each in every corner of the painting and each one of these acts show when Jesus was born and what happened shortly after. Now you might be asking how is this painting romanesque and that is because it uses stucco and a lot of features such as fleur de lis as stated by Walter Cook. Now this painting also shows something called the infantry cycle and this is shown in all four acts of the painting as stated by Walter Cook as well and this just shows how every time something happened in Jesus's life after he was born that people tend tended to come around him and comfort him and give him lots of stuff and this could also be related to real life as in when a baby's born a bunch of people come around and comfort the husband and the wife and give them stuff like toys diapers and necessities and this leads scholars to believe that this painting might not only be a religious story in a religious painting but it could also relate to real life as in what happens shortly after babies are born and this could have definitely attracted many scholars that are studying this types of paintings because of how this artist so long ago could have implemented this story into this religious painting it could not have just been a religious thing but it could have had another story in the background of how we should treat a child after it's born and in current era we still follow this exact thing the baby's born and we comfort them and give them stuff. Now let's finish talking about that painting and jump into a new one follow me into my time machine and let's go 807 years into the future we reach the year 2007. Now what's so important about this year well a painting was created called the blindfolded man and this painting was successful in showing politics by blurring out a picture of a man's face and giving it a violence feel to it in the background now just as we did to the other painting let me give you some context so you can understand a little bit about it this painting was created in the Netherlands and in March 2007 a 54 year old resident was killed by the police this could have led Dumas to create this painting because of the police brutality that happened that day and by blindfolding the man made it seem like he was being tortured and he was going to get killed soon so now that you know a little bit of context to this painting let me tell you a little bit about it the artist to this painting is Marleen Dumas it was created in 2007 in Amsterdam the Netherlands and a little bit about the artist most of Dumas's paintings are based on politics while adding a story to them by kind of blurring the painting out making it seem like there's violence to it as stated by Tamar Garp the blurriness of painting is very interesting way of making a painting because of how it could have such a story to it because no one would ever know that showing a picture of a man blindfolded and kind of blurring it out would ever mean that someone was killed you might think that someone are being tortured but not die but someone was killed and you wouldn't know that it was based on a true story and being able to show all of this on by just kind of blurring out the painting is very fascinating way scholars can be using this type of painting can be and how concurrent police brutality is very bad as in they can look back to this painting and see how police brutality was and how it currently is and how it kind of slowly rose up more and more and started happening a lot more often and in the painting the person does not look white they look like a person of color and the scholar could use this by certain current era police being a lot more racist towards colored people and as shown in the painting they this person looks like a certain colored person and if the police brutality was towards this person this could definitely back up the scholar's argument by a lot now that i have talked to y'all about these two paintings let's compare and contrast them one way they can both be similar can be how they show a story behind the painting even when it might not show it completely but ways that can be different is Duma's painting was about politics and Borrera's painting was about a religious story now having both of these paintings having similarities and differences they both have such a compact story behind them which is a very cool way of looking at a painting as in you would never look at a painting and think oh i think this painting has a very big depth of the story behind it you would just look over it you might brush over it and just avoid the meaning of it but a thought might never come into your head that this painting has such a big story to it now let's jump back into the time machine and go back to our regular timeline i hope that you found this podcast to be informational about these two different types of paintings and i hope that you will come again to hear more about some different types of things
