A French mathematician won the Ebel Prize for his contributions to probability theory. Underground oceans on moons of Saturn and Jupiter could support microbial life. NASA discovered a large reserve of water on the moon, which could be used for energy and future lunar bases. The Starship launch had mixed success, achieving some objectives but crashing during re-entry. A study suggests that Jupiter's moon Europa could support microbial life. A Danish algorithm can predict life expectancy and migration patterns. NASA is exploring the possibility of microscopic life on Europa. A live golden jackal was recorded in Spain for the first time. Hello, good morning again from Cosme Garcia High School Radio. Welcome to our Science Corner, a space created by students of 2nd ESO Physics and Chemistry. These are the news corresponding to March 2024. The Frenchman Michael Targuin won the Ebel Prize, considered the Nobel of Mathematics. The researcher has been recognized for his innovative contribution to probability theory and functional analysis, with exceptional application in mathematics, physics and statistics. This is a news from the 22nd of March of 2024. Hello, I am Hugo, and I will talk about the underground sea of the moon of Saturn. Mars is the planet with which extraterrestrials identify, but there are other nearby worlds within the solar system where life is possible. Covered by tens or hundreds of kilometers of rock and ice, the underground oceans of some moons of Jupiter of Saturn remain warm enough to have liquid water and have chemical conditions, where some terrestrial microorganisms could survive. When the Voyager 2 passed Jupiter, it observed grooves and fractures in the pristine surface that raised suspicions about what was hidden inside. After decades of observation, it is believed that in addition to Europa, there are leaves still inside one moon of the solar system. This news is from Life Science in the 30th of March of 2024. Skeleton panda sea squirt, the weird little creature that looks like baby panda dressed up for Halloween. Scientists discovered this little panda skeleton that lives in the coast of a Japanese island was a new species after scuba divers posted photos of it online. Photos of this unusual animal first appeared online in around 2017. Researchers saw photos posted by a diving center and realized they might be something scientists had never seen before. Good morning, today I have read a shocking piece of news. NASA has discovered a reserve of 600,000 millions of liters of water in the moon. All this water can be used for energy sources and for supplying water to future lunar bases without having to carry it from Earth on expensive supply machines. This water is ice and is like deep dark craters that have not seen sunlight in millions of years and where some of the coldest temperatures in the entire universe have been measured. All this water can be compared with 6 times the water in the mixing area. See you tomorrow, ABC. Hello, my name is Mateo Almercia and I'm talking about the latest Starship launch that was done on March 14th. The biggest rocket ever built that runs on a methane-oxygen mix. In the last launch, the rocket's main objectives were to launch, to do a successful first stage separation from the booster and ignite the space raptors mid-flight to slow down. The secondary objectives were to land the booster in the water and to make the Starship survive re-entry. There was also another secondary objective which was to transfer fuel inside the Starship in space. All the main objectives except the space raptor re-entry boost were successful. And we know that only the fuel transfer was successful because the booster lost control and crashed and the Starship burnt up in the atmosphere because of the high re-entry speed. According to a Science Advances study, Europa, a moon of Jupiter, could have life. That is if we would not be talking about intelligent or multicellular life, but of microbial life that has been forming in the warmer parts of the oceans of Jupiter's moon. A group of researchers from a Danish university developed a model called Death Calculator, an algorithm to predict the state of life until its end. It is based on anonymous data from millions of Danes collected by the National Statistics Institute of this Nordic country. Analysis of the sequences makes it easier to predict what will follow until the end. Regarding death, the algorithm is right in 78% of cases and about migrations in 73%. But the instrument is not ready to be used by the general public. For now, it is a research project that explores the field of possibilities. The long-term effects, social connections and the possibility of predicting the course of life still remain to be studied. Scientific New Life is something that humans have been searching for many times. And according to La Vanguardia, now we are closer than ever because NASA thinks that in Europe, one of the biggest moons of Jupiter, under the icy sea of that moon, there are some microscopic life, because in the hottest part the conditions are fine for life to exist. They have sent a robot that is going to take some ice, but until 2030 we are not going to know if there is life or not. A live golden jackal has been recorded in Spain for the first time thanks to a tramping camera. The golden jackal is a type of mammal that has been seen in 33 countries around Europe and Asia. The important thing about this event is that it is the first time that one has been documented alive in Spain, because last year a specimen was found dead from a round over in Alba. It is thought that it came from France or even Switzerland, since dead animals can travel long distances. And it is thought that it was a unique specimen. I am Manuela Vargas and this information is from the newspaper El País. And this is all for today. We meet again next month. Thanks for your attention. Translated & subtituled by Laura V. Mor.
