This is the first episode of a podcast called "She's Wearing a Doctor's Stethoscope" hosted by Courtney, a registered nurse with eight years of experience. She talks about her experiences in critical care and traveling as a nurse. She discusses the pros and cons of traveling and staying in staff positions. Her main goal is to help others understand the daily life of a nurse and inspire change in the nursing profession. She emphasizes the challenges and increasing workload nurses face. While she doesn't expect to make a significant impact, she hopes to shed light on the need for change. She wants the podcast to be fun and hopes listeners enjoy it. Hey, y'all. Welcome to the very first episode of She's Wearing a Doctor's Stethoscope. I'm Courtney, and I'm the host of this here podcast. If you haven't figured it out, I'm a registered nurse. I've been a nurse for about eight years. The majority of my experience comes from critical care. I recently just finished up a couple of years of traveling, and I really can't wait to talk about that. I'm going to use this podcast to really dive into my experiences with traveling and in staff positions alike. If you're a nurse who has been on the fence about whether traveling is right for you, whether you need to just stay where you are, tune in because I'm going to talk about it all. I've experienced both. I'm going to talk about the pros and the cons because there are good and bad to each. I've made a lot of friends along the way, and that is probably the one thing I'm most thankful for, especially with traveling. When you're on a bad assignment, it is so nice to have someone that can relate to the challenges that you're facing, someone that can relate to you and know how bad your day was, and someone that you can just go get shitfaced at the end of the shift with and just drown all your sorrows with. I'm going to break all of it down for you. Can you please tell me? I can't say that I necessarily have any specific goals for this podcast. My main wish and hope is to help others gain an understanding and a perspective into the day-to-day of a nurse while they are undergoing a 12-hour shift. I just hope to inspire change. I hope that I help people realize the need for change through this podcast because nursing is hard, man. It is just fucking hard, and it's getting harder every day. I don't know how to explain to you. Even the changes that have occurred within my eight years in the field, I mean, it's just so hard. It has gotten so hard. They just, I feel like, add more and more onto the nurse's role. And if I haven't already said it, I'm going to say it. And if I have, I'm just going to reiterate that just because a nurse can do a job does not mean they should, you know? I mean, if I already have 12 tasks that I need to do at one time, why do we need to make it 13? I mean, I'll never understand. But, so, you know, I don't know what I want to do here. I just, I'm hoping to have fun. I'm hoping to shed some light on what it's like to be a nurse. And I'm hoping to identify the areas that really need change. Am I going to be able to spark a change, inspire change? Highly doubtful, but at least I can bitch about it. So, yeah, listen. Bear with me. This podcast is new. It is definitely a learning process for me. I'm just trying to have fun with this. And I hope that you guys have fun making fun of me in the process. And I hope we have some good episodes, you know? Come back. Come back.
