The Skoda Tour de Cunnamara is taking place this Saturday. It is a popular cycling event that attracts over 3,000 people to Cunnamara. There are two routes, a 140km and an 80km cycle, both showcasing the scenic landscapes of Ireland. The event organizer, Mark O'Connell, emphasizes the importance of respecting the community and following the rules of the road. Drivers are advised to be patient and cyclists are encouraged to cycle two abreast. The event is not a race, but a challenge for cyclists of all fitness levels. The website tourdeconnemara.ie provides maps and route information for those who need to plan their travel on the day of the event. This program is kindly sponsored by Kilmore Abbey and Gardens, 095-52001. Good evening guys and welcome to Injury Time here on Cunnamara Community Radio. It is Damien Ryan on the desk here for the next hour and it is an action-packed show guys with plenty of sport on our way and it is the 24th of May guys and it's a good evening Friday. It's the rain has stayed away, thank God, for another while and it's a big weekend here in Cunnamara guys and it is a big weekend in Clifton. It is the Skoda Tour de Cunnamara of 2024 and it's a huge weekend here in Clifton and it attracts so much people from all around the West there around Ireland and you know it's probably bringing cyclists along one of the finest coastal areas, lake lands, valleys and mountain landscapes in Ireland you know that's probably one of the probably considered one of the most scenic sports events in Ireland you know it's great to see it and it is Skoda Tour de Cunnamara and there is two events taking place guys so it is the 140 Clamford Cycle and it is the 80 Clamford Cycle so the 140 Cycle continues all the way to Mam Cross and the 80 brings you down Ina Valley so it is a beautiful route, leaves Clifton tomorrow morning early and it brings us all the way to Ballykinnealy, you know, Roundstone, Cashel, Kylemore, Leatherfrack you know such a such a beautiful beautiful cycle and it attracts over 3,000 people to Cunnamara so it's great to see it and Marion caught up with Mark O'Connell the event organiser from Skoda during the week and here is all the info you need and all the safety procedures as well that needs to be in place as well for such a big event so here we'll have a quick listen and then we'll be back shortly after these ads. Right well that of course was Queen with Bicycle Rice and I don't think there's anybody listening who doesn't know why I played that because of course the Tour de Cunnamara is happening this coming Saturday and I'm delighted to have with me Mark O'Connell who is the event organiser for the Skoda Tour de Cunnamara so first of all Mark you're very very welcome to Cunnamara Community Radio. Thank you very much Marion. And yeah Saturday there are going to be somebody told me 2,500 cyclists is it really that many? Yeah yeah yeah split over to the two events the 140 and the 80k yeah so that's a lot of bikes on the road. Is that bigger than before or is it the same size? No that's the number we've had for the last number of years. We cap it at that number but the demand is actually considerably higher than that I would believe. Really? Showing the appeal of Cunnamara you know but yeah no we cap it at that based on a few different I suppose logistical reasons and that but yeah that's the number. Well that's based on the fact that our roads aren't terribly big or wide. They have a lot of bends and hills in them but as you say there are two routes and people need to be aware of these if you're listening because really no driver going into a shopping or whatever he's doing wants to get caught behind a load of cyclists so to know where the route is and to you know and then drivers can kind of avoid them and we can happily both use the roads. Absolutely yeah yeah and we do acknowledge that there is you know disruption to perhaps people's daily pattern on the day so and we do try and so we set up the event in a way that we try and minimize that disruption but I suppose by way of understanding the route the 140k which starts at half nine leaves from Clifton out around Stone, Castle and then takes a turn to Karnagh and keeps going down to up through Mann crossing into Mamm and at Karnagh and Mamm there's a feed station there so that the cyclists refuel there and then from Mamm they continue on to the Nan and home then Letterfrack and then back into Clifton so the bulk of them would be finishing in that period of probably 2-3 o'clock on the longer route. The shorter route is the 80k and they go out the same route and at Castle they actually turn towards the Isle of Bally, they're on the main road for a very very short period of time but they then turn into the Isle of Bally and come back then the following day they join up with the longer route. I noticed they leave at about 10.30? They're leaving at half ten. So when would they be getting back into Clifton? They would tend to start coming back in around one. So it's quite a bit shorter that route. It is yeah and this year there's a few different factors that there's probably more during that event so we think that the bulk of the cyclists will be finished much earlier this year you have Linster trying the Champions final at Rugby so you've an awful lot of people who are keen to get back and see that game and then I think the weather is promised to get a bit nasty later in the afternoon so I think people are keen to get their cycling done early. Is the forecast is reasonably good for the early part of the day is it? It's changing so much but it looks clear in the morning and then lunchtime showers are coming in so it's just but it's improving as the days go on so who knows. So really the time that people are going to be on the roads are between 9.30 and about 3.00. The bulk of them will be on the roads during those times. Yeah I mean they'll go through in a wave. I mean after 11 o'clock they look on through Roundstone, Cashel, all those roads to be clear. It's really more on the people coming back on the road in from Linan, Cottenmore that's probably where the... And the Islay Valley perhaps as well because it's a narrow enough road anyway. It is yeah but they tend to get through there pretty quickly so they're clear there by starting by one o'clock for that so well and truly well before. Are there any rules for the cyclists such as there must be a single file or maybe two abreast at the very most? Yeah no the rules of the road which we stress is two abreast so cyclists are permitted to cycle two abreast so that's in the safety announcement and we actually give them a safety manual as well physically and online so we stress the importance of respecting the community in Connemara and cycling two abreast so that everybody can share the road. Right so yeah very very important actually and I think we have to put out a word to the drivers as well because I know drivers can get very very cross if they get held up particularly if they're not aware of it. So first of all I hope everybody is aware of it and secondly you know they just have to learn a bit of patience. We don't want road rage and road hogs and things happening. Yeah I'm going to say I mean this is the I mean including COVID I mean this started five years ago the event and we've never had any cyclists come in saying that they were you know the road risks motors were aggressive towards them. I'm delighted to hear that I'm not surprised to hear it to be honest. Well I'm sure there are a few people you know there might be some grumbles but I think at the end of the day people realise what the cyclists are bringing into the community as well. I mean we have we've done the research that six out of ten of them come back for a holiday as a result of the good experience. Really that's interesting. So when people you know when they have good experience and they're not being beeped off the road they tend to come back and that's when we say that the event is hugely popular it's because of the welcome they get in Connemara and you know the hospitality that's shown towards them so it's a number of different factors and that is a key factor in terms of you know that they feel feel welcome in the area but we do acknowledge that there is a level of inconvenience for a short period of time and we would ask that the motors have you know just that extra few minutes patience you know in terms of being when sharing the road. I mean it is actually a race so I mean sort of the elite riders presumably will kind of go off into a, does it count as a peloton? No, it's not a race, so I'm sorry, I thought it was. It's very it's a you have you every every I suppose every level of fitness and interest from people who are there are a number of people who are raising money for charity it's the first time doing events you have people who will be very experienced with people who've done every single version of the Tour de Connemara down through the years and right so you have people who are you know they're they're they're quite fit, two people then who are you know it's their first kind of big big personal fitness challenge so you but no we it and we stress it's not a race, there's no qualifications for Tour de France or anything like this. No, I actually thought it was a race but I mean they do go pretty fast. Some of the fitter would but we would have bike marches and cars out the front that do control the pace so there are you know you have people who will go at a reasonable pace compared to other more leisurely cyclists so but I'd say it's an event for every every level of fitness and some will go a bit faster and some will literally stop for ice cream on the way around and that's the beauty of it as well that people will stop in and have coffees around the place also so they don't take it as seriously as some others. Right, I think also and well I know that on your website which is tourdeconnemara.ie you show maps of the ways and obviously the routes are kind of explained there so I think you know if anybody does have to get somewhere on Saturday be no harm for them to have a look at that and and you know sort of see well when is the best time for me to go if you do have a choice of time sometimes you don't but if you do have a choice of times and routes perhaps you can always change your route a little bit to allow for it. Absolutely yeah and on the website under tab routes you'll see the two route options are displayed. Yes I looked at that actually I saw the two little maps and it does show you where they're going and if you know I suppose if you know that the ATK is leaving at 10.30 and the 140k is leaving at 9.30 you could probably roughly work out what time they're going to be on on a bit of road that you might need. Yeah yeah it's it's on average I mean that we would we'd estimate you know that they would on average go between 20 and 25 kilometers an hour so it moves it moves quite quickly through through the area so it's probably the last few stragglers possibly could delay things on the route but that's the approach. So most people would be going between about 20 and 25 kilometers an hour yeah so it's not that long an event actually really is it it's the morning and a bit of early afternoon. Yeah I mean the vast majority are back you know say by by 3 o'clock or so and then you do have the last few stragglers the event officially I suppose are on route supports shut down at half five so the you know there we don't want to see people out there the whole day so we do encourage them to get back to the finish as promptly and as quickly as they can. Well of course I mean we've been talking all the time about the fact that they might they might upset drivers a bit but I mean there's not only drivers so there are people there are people living in houses along the route and in the villages and so on and I'm sure they'll be out cheering everybody on anyway. Yeah and it's it's what we the feedback we get every year in terms of like the people do come out to the front of the garden and cheer them on and clap them on and when people might be struggling that maybe in a bit of wind or rain or whatever it might be or fitness might go to where it needs to be that it does give them that there's a bit of a boost but it does add to the it does add to the event in terms of that sense of kind of our welcome as well. Yeah because like these are either people who will come back and they are the people who would spend money when you know. Come back to their families and talk to everybody yes. Okay I have to leave it there Mark. I wish you all the best for the success of the event to be as successful as all the previous ones and maybe more so so thank you very much for joining us and telling us and as I say you know people really would if you do need to go somewhere on Saturday and you need to get there have a look at the Tour de Connemara.ie website you'll get a very good idea of where people are when and you'd be able then to plan a journey if you needed to do so. Yep thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us. Oh you're very welcome Mark thank you. We all know the importance of getting fresh fish into our diet. Now guys, welcome back and it's indie time here on Connemara News Radio. Obviously we had a massive final in the Viva Stadium in Dublin, the second one since 2011 and Lukman Hattrick ended Leverkusen's unbeaten run. I think it was a huge 51 games unbeaten run. As I say, like nothing, not the Roman Empire, not even the last of the Summer Wine, last forever. So neither did Breyer, Leverkusen's unbeaten run. So it was a 3-0 win for Atlanta, a club in Bergamo in Italy and a massive win for them. It's their first trophy in 61 years for them as well, so that's a huge one as well for Atlanta as well. So good to see an Italian and a German side in and they brought a real bit of colour and noise to Dublin. And on the line I have Tom Byrne from the Western People and RTE Fort who attended the final in the Viva Stadium and he's here to tell us what he made of it and how he enjoyed the occasion. Good evening Tom, how are we keeping? Hey Damien, thanks for having me on. Not too bad, good to see you. You're a journalist now with the Western People, you've just started a new role recently and you've done a good bit with a lot of coverage with goblinizers with RTE Fort as well, so you've been busy. Yeah, I just started with the Western People there a couple of weeks ago, so I'm just getting settled in based in Ballina there. And yeah, the RTE role since the start of the season with Chloe and I, so it's just on the whistle match report. So I'll be heading up to, I'll be in Eamon DC now this evening to tip a report on the Dundalk game. Happy days and obviously with the occasion there with the Europa League final, a big win for Atlanta and you know it was a great occasion for Dublin itself. The first, obviously the second, first one since 2011 when Porto bet Braga 1-0, but it was a great occasion. It seems to be a great colour night around Dublin and you know, I think you came out with a statement the day after saying that you know, they thanked the fans and the people of Dublin and the people of Ireland, you know, that the final that ran so smoothly. Yeah, no, it was a great day. It was well put together. I went up early in the day and just took in the atmosphere going around the city centre and the fans, they had a fan festival on at the city centre so I took a wander over to it and the mixture of fans there, the Leverkusen fans, Atalanta fans, they're all mixing together and you know, they had a lot going on. I know they had a UEFA Legends game earlier on in the day for about an hour and like a sort of four or five-a-side course. They had some big names that were playing there. You had Pires, you had Mendes, you had Ashley Cole was there as well and also Diego Forlan. So, there's some big names just in Dublin itself for such a big occasion. The European Cup final doesn't come to Ireland too often so I said while I was here, it was a great chance to get to a European Cup final and never get to one again. But overall, the day was well put together. A lot of work had obviously gone into it and that's true for UEFA obviously as well. But going to the grounds then, it was well put together in terms of what route you had to take and they had a Europa League final shop and they had everything in place and lucky enough, I had some nice seats for the final. So, it was a great occasion overall. Who would have thought that Atalanta would blow Bayer Leverkusen out of the water because they truly did look and had the game of his life. Nobody expected this before the game but I'm proud of Atalanta. They've shown throughout the competition, they did the same to Liverpool. They have this system, they go man for man and it's very effective. I haven't seen many teams do their style of play but in fairness to their manager Gasparini, he's created a good 11 there that know the roles on the pitch and Xabi Alonso's team couldn't deal with it on the night and they were fully deserved to win the game. That's exactly it and if you look at Xabi Alonso, he's one of the European promising coaches but it was Gasparini's first bit of silverware and it was great to see that. The old hand took the laurels there but at 66 years of age, to get his first silverware probably means a lot more to him as well whereas Alonso probably has a lot more years on the sideline to win a few trophies and obviously he's won the league with Leverkusen and it's been a great coaching managerial career as well. But looking at the results with Atalanta, they beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield with the high press, energy. They did very similar to the Marseille game with the 3-0 at the home leg as well. Nobody can say this was not deserved because they had a winning mentality and they scored goals and as you said, it was man for man. It's great to see a club in Bergamo doing so well and getting a trophy. Looking at the goalscoring by Lukman, if you're a Premier League fan out there, Lukman has been around a while really. He's English born but has 21 cats from Nigeria. He has four parents who are Nigerian. He started his career off with a chartered Athletics squad with 45 appearances and 10 goals. He's played alongside Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. He's been on loan with Leipzig as well. He's been around a while and he's still only 26 years old but he's got a few goals really. For Atalanta, I think he's 22 goals and 60 appearances. For a young man, he's around the block for a while. As you say, he was with Everton for a while. I remember watching him a few games when he was with Everton in the Premier League. He was a bit raw probably at that stage. It took him a few years to get the experience and get more mature as a player. He really did have the game of his life. Every time he got on the ball, he looked dangerous. His second and third goal, there were phenomenal finishes. That second goal especially, took on the player and put him right in the bottom corner. To finish off the game on his left foot, hitting the top corner, they couldn't deal with him. To win a European Cup final, it takes a bit of magic. Fortunately for Atalanta, it was Lufthansa that delivered. Very true. Looking at the other side, they had an unbelievable season. They're losing just one game all season in all competitions. It's unbelievable, 51 games unbeaten. They have a bright future under Alvio Lanzo. I wonder, is the big question, will he stay? I'm sure other clubs will be looking at Lanzo as a potential target for the clubs, but it's an unbelievable start to his managerial career. Harry Kane moved to Bayern last summer, expecting to win a trophy, win the Bundesliga, which they usually do, but Bayern Leverkusen had something to say about that. That's all thanks to Xabi Alonso, who came in and built himself up within a year as a progressive manager, tactically aware. It's top club to be looking at Atalanta. I'm sure Liverpool wanted him when Jurgen Klopp announced his departure, but I have a feeling he probably wants another year of experience before he makes that big move away from Leverkusen. You can see Real Madrid, also another massive club that could come in for him when Ancelotti does eventually depart. He's only at the start of his managerial career, too. He's had a great season, likes to be unbeaten up until Wednesday night. It was something spectacular for a club like Leverkusen. No big club has come near that in terms of being unbeaten for that long. Fair play to Alonso. You can see the players respect him. The fans love him. The Bayern Leverkusen fans on Wednesday night, they were a fantastic support. Even when they were 3-0 down towards the end of the game, they were the loudest in the stadium. That's not saying the Atalanta fans weren't brilliant because they were, but the Leverkusen fans just had that edge about them. You could see they were a proper fan base, passionate fans. The Leverkusen squad, Alonso, they all just stood in front of them at the end of the final whistle, just taking it all in. It has been a fantastic season for them. It will definitely be a season to remember in the years to come for them. 100 per cent. The Europa League final was meant for these two teams, who had two excellent seasons, both playing bright, vibrant football. To do it on a stage here on a European night for two teams, even for the fans, as you said, it made a great occasion. I'm sure they'll come back even stronger next year. Moving closer to home, you mentioned Galway United a few minutes ago. They are having a season to remember at the minute. Their home form is probably not as good as their away form, but a huge win last Friday night in Weavers Park in Drogheda. To be honest, I was lucky to be out a late, late double goals to win the game 3-2. Rob Slaven with the first goal, and then Drogheda took the 2-1 lead. Then two very late goals in from Maurice Nugent and Stephen Walsh to win the game 3-2. So it was a huge win, and another huge game tonight against Dundalk. Yeah, well, starting with last week, unfortunately, I wasn't up in Drogheda last week, but I had it on on the League of Ireland TV here. All the signs were looking towards Drogheda to win. To be honest, Drogheda probably would have been deserving of the three points if they had kept the lead, but that's the influence of John Caulfield and Olly Organ. The players are playing to their, to Caulfield and Organ's system, and they never give up attitude. They keep going to the very end, and once the first went in, then you think, gee, the draw is going to be a good point here. Then Walsh comes up with the winner, and that's a humongous three points that they picked up last week. As you say, the away four season has been brilliant. They picked up wins in Derry City, could have picked up a win in Shamrock Rovers, picked up a win in Bowes. Who would have thought that before the start of the season, given, to be honest, the squad from last year isn't much different. A few additions here and there, but overall, it's not much different. The United supporters, I'm sure before the start of the season, would have taken their hand off to be just outside the top three in the country, or the so-called top three. There's still a long way to go, but if they can pick up another three points tonight, or a point wouldn't be too bad either, just keep it ticking along. Yes, it's been a very impressive start to the season. I think the whole format just hasn't been as good as last year. You're playing a tougher opposition, but I think the pressure seems to be slightly off when you go away from home. You're soaking up a bit of pressure and you hit them on the counter-attack, especially that goal up in Derry. It's very similar, you sit back and you're fighting pressure and then you seem to go and get that counter-attack in football. But as you say, they've definitely bought into John Coffey and Andy Horgan's standard and fighting until the end. It's getting results and hopefully now they can get a win tonight, but as usual, a draw wouldn't be the worst result because they have a very few tough fixtures coming ahead as well. So it's going to be, as usual, just keeping it ticking over, keep picking up points. I was looking at the AOV looking today, but with ten games to go, you nearly, and if you're in around the mid-table, hopefully maybe Coffey might sign one or two individuals to bring that forward. I know at the start of the year it was always about staying up, but if you're mingling around the mid-table and you have a chance for Europe, you could really, really go for it. I'm sure John Coffey and his family are looking more up the table than down the table as well. I'm sure he'll be looking towards that as well. There's no reason not to be at this stage when going at it at the start. The style, the system is very effective and teams are struggling to deal with it, to cope with it. I have number one in there, Brent Clarke, that's almost orchestrating it all. He leads by example from the back, so you can see the whole pitch. A solid defence. You have McCormack there in midfield, the leader, and then you have a bit of quality on the pitch. McCarthy and Hurley then in 10. Then you have Walshie up top and you have Carlos Sullivan there as well. It's an 11 that they know how to do their job. He's obviously instilled that into the squad to make it very hard to beat, which they strongly believe that any team that comes to play Galway United, they're going to have a difficult day of it. As you said, they sit in and they look to break on the counter. I always remember that there we go, 1-1-0, that's exactly what happened. They just absorb that pressure and hit on the break and teams are struggling to deal with it. I'm sure they're a bit shocked that Galway United are competing at such a high level for a team that's just been promoted. Warford are doing the same as well. They had a great win there last night against Strathead. They're two teams that have just come up from the First Division. They're showing that they're well able to compete with the big boys. It's very true. Looking at Dundalk, they've been in a bit of trouble really at the minute on and off the field. They've got a big win there last weekend against Chamberlain. They'll be travelling to Galway full of confidence but they're still in a bit of trouble on and off the field. It looks like it will continue for a long time. Managers know a team that will last long there. It's going to be a very interesting game obviously but they're in a club in a lot of transition at the minute. I don't think they'll be seeing a European night for a little while to go. Yeah, with Stephen Kenny, the part of it is really, it's just gradually started to go downhill off the pitch for them. It's a shame because at Dundalk, the days when Stephen Kenny and John Caulfield, when John was with Cork City, they were the rivals and they were competing for a couple of years against each other for either the League title or the NBI Cup. Look, the players, they'll be in high spirits because they did beat Chamberlain for that weekend which is a surprise result. It'll be an interesting match-up but I wouldn't take them for granted at all. There is a bit of class there in their team and it's a club that could bounce back at any point but things off the pitch, it just hasn't been going well for them. It's great to see, speaking of Dundalk and Kenny, it's great to see Kenny back in a job within the League of Ireland. I know he started not great and his team, I don't think that past team, are in good form at the moment. He's probably seen to now starting with two losses since he's come in there but still he hasn't been out of the job long since he left the Irish role last year in November. But look, you need characters like that coming back to the League of Ireland because he had a massive influence on us whenever he was in charge of Dundalk, definitely. Very true and it's great to see him as a new manager off St. Patrick's Athletic. Two defeats at the minute but it's changing times and it'll take that bit of time just to get him familiar with the League again and it's great to see him back and it didn't take long to get a job again. Let's go to see it. Tom Byrne, it was an absolute pleasure having you on. Please, God, you'll enjoy the game tonight and hopefully there'll be three points in the D.C. Park for all the Royal Army fans out there as well. Enjoy the game and we'll chat to you soon down the line. A big huge thank you to Tom Byrne from the Western People and RT Sports. A man that knows a lot about football and it's great to see he enjoyed such a great European final in Dublin on Wednesday night. A huge congratulations to Atlanta and a big shout out to Golden Eider to kick off their season and kick off their game against Dundalk in less than 45 minutes time. So we wish them all the best and when the Italian side from Bergamo won the Europa League final on Wednesday night, a song, an Italian song that stuck in my head and it was from years ago, it was like a disco song but Brian Munich, Italian striker but he played for Brian Munich for a few years. Luca Toni, there was a little great song for him and we'll have a quick listen to it and we'll be back very shortly. Stand by for action. Once again, three, four. Welcome to the news of the week. Game over. Now welcome back guys and a big thank you to Tom Byrne and that song was from a great striker back in the day, Luca Toni, the Italian striker. We are going to stick with soccer guys and obviously we're going to stick with local soccer and West Coast United are towards the end of the season in most codes in all age levels and they're having a great season underage which is great to see it and it's great to see the women's game doing so well and you know it's a long way to continue. Obviously it seems to be very very big at the minute. You see with Godwin United's women's team there, they have a big game tomorrow away to Chamberlain Covers and that is in Tallaght Stadium live on TG Car. So if you're at a loose end tomorrow guys, tomorrow evening, feel free to tune into TG Car and it'll be a great game. Phil Trillside are top of the table and they're into a quarterfinal of the All-Island Cup where they are the holders of that cup as well. So it's great to see the women's game so well and you know we're very lucky we had Julianne Russell on the line a few weeks back there as well. So they're flying high at the minute. They had one of their biggest attendance in AMADC Park with over 3,000 people there against UCD as well. So Phil Trillside are really really showing it on the field as well. So it's good to see the West Coast girls and lady teams doing so well as well which is fantastic to see as well and you know it's great to see it and hopefully it'll go from strength to strength. Touching on West Coast United, they have the link up for their summer camp and it's now live. The summer camp is a hugely popular weekend on August. So it's kicking off Friday at 4 to 7 and then you have Saturday at 10 o'clock in the morning till 1 and then Sunday 10 o'clock in the morning till 1. So it's always a great weekend, the August Bank holiday weekend as well. So it's great to see it and it's always so popular. I think there's over 100 kids for the last number of years and a huge big shout out to Power Soccer there. They come out and do a session along with Galway United to come out and do a session. So it's great to see it and a huge weekend. And then also guys with the West Coast, there is another week to go in the scrap metal in Lettifrack, the so-called scrap metal collection. It is in the Cullamara West Centre in Lettifrack. Unfortunately, the community pitch in Callaghan is all closed up. They had their last collection there but it's been a huge success so far and it's great to see the scrap metal being so full and it's great to see it. It's huge for the club, it's huge for the underage structure to the West Coast United as well. So a huge thank you on behalf of everyone that has donated to any scrap metal from washing machines to cars and the whole lot, you know, so it's great to see it. And obviously the Cash for Collaborate is still going on as well guys and there is Close Banks there in Lettifrack there as well. So obviously the Summer Campus now guys is live, boys and girls aged 5 to 13. It is Friday from 4pm to 7, Saturday and Sunday the 10 to 1 o'clock and it is the 2nd and 4th of August 2024 and there is family raids and all that and it is guest coaches with Co-ordinators and Power Soccer as well so promises to be a great weekend as well guys so looking forward to that. And unlucky for a couple of teams this week, the guys down the 12s lost the cup semi-final to on penalties away to Crawford during the week as well. It was 2-2 after extra time and big congratulations to Crawford who won 4-3 on penalties but it was a heartbreak for the super group of the other 12s as well so and then during the week then they lost 4-2 in Cairo away to Merlin Woods as well so but that was a strange old game unfortunately, football is a funny old game as we say. West Coast were leading and in total control at half time they were 2-0 up and unfortunately that was the other 13s and unfortunately lost 4-2 in the end and the league actually went to Merlin Woods and West Coast United came second but I think it is promotion as well so but a huge congratulations to Merlin Woods who are flying high in Galway City but it has been a long long season as well for the other 13s so a huge thank you to all the coaches from every age group guys and it's great to see the club going well under age to get into finals and promotion as well so a big shout out to all the coaches and players there and please God the summer camp will be in full swing in August guys and so we're going to go have a quick song and then we'll be back to talk all things rugby so a big weekend in the rugby scene as well and there's a couple of local rugby information I want to gather out to all our listeners out there as well so we'll be back very shortly after this little song. Now welcome back and that was the Heineken Cup, Champions Cup rugby team song and that gives us straight into rugby guys and obviously the Heineken Cup final is this weekend and it's a big one as I say of the Champions Cup final you could say so it is Leinster versus Toulouse and obviously Toulouse are a huge French outfit there as well so it's going to be a huge game for Leinster as well so but you know as you say Leinster are another are a very strong European side as well so it's going to be a huge game for them as well and it's going to be a very interesting game so we're all looking forward to that as well and you know it's I'm sure there'll be a lot of Irish internationals on show there you know James Ryan, Josh van der Vleer you know it'll be there'll be a couple of good battles there too for the jersey for that starting line up as well so it's going to be a very interesting game so we wish Leinster all the best there I think and I think Ringrose misses out through injury so Hugo Keane will probably end up starting there as well so I think he's returned from injury again against Ulster last week James Ryan is awesome squad you know they'll have a very strong squad to choose from so it'll be an interesting to see especially after a big win against Northampton 2017 as well so it's good to see Leinster doing so well and if you're out and about and you're making in from the cycle it'll be live hopefully it'll actually kick off is tomorrow at 2.45 and the game is in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so hopefully people can get out and watch it it is live on RT too Leinster first is Toulouse so it's been probably the two most successful teams in European rugby for the last number of years I think there's five titles and Leinster have four European titles so Toulouse have five Champions Cups Leinster have four so it's all to play for there guys and it'll be live on RT with a kickoff at 2.45 so we hope you all get back to the cycle safe and well and you can watch the celebrate and watch Leinster in the Champions Cup final guys so looking close at home guys there is some of the big news obviously huge congratulations to Dave McDonagh he was voted Junior Player of the Year and then a big shout out to Tommy Muzzle also as well who won the Connacht player in the series there for the Connacht Junior side as well so big shout out to them and then some close at home guys and something to look forward to guys it is a Cunnamara Rugby Sevens it's back which is great to see it is back with a demand and it's August 9th and 10th and that will be obviously there's plenty of rugby on store obviously fancy dress barbecues you know and so it's their 10-year anniversary as well and it's going to be a full day two days of crack and rugby so get booking guys you can make sure you book online you can on the social media sites and the Cunnamara RFC and there'll be plenty of store and it's always a great weekend and that is the Cunnamara Rugby Sevens and guys closer to time as well guys there is also the Connacht Rugby in connection with Cunnamara RFC it is the tag rugby and so the tag rugby is kicking off on the 31st of May until the 5th of July and it's every Friday and it is a maximum of 15 players per team and it's a I think it's 360 per team as well guys so you can register your team at connachtruby.ie for a fresh tag and it's it's a fun way of you get fit make friends and have a bit of fun so that is Cunnamara RFC tag rugby and it's back every Friday from the 31st of May to the 5th of July and it is a plenty of fun a good way of making friends and one way of keeping fit as well guys so and that is it from all the rugby side of things guys and unfortunately that is the end from the show guys it's been an action-packed show big shout out to the Tour de Cunnamara and big shout out to Mark O'Connell who took out his time out to give us the heads up and what to do and what not to do on the roads at this weekend and we wish every competitor and everybody that is doing the race the cycling race tomorrow guys all the best and be safe guys it's always been a great weekend hopefully the weather stays dry free so we wish Byrne who witnessed the Europa League final between Atlanta and Barleyburg and a big win for Atlanta the first trophy in 61 years so a big shout out to them and we want to wish all our teams out there
