In the third episode of the podcast "Salut les groupons," the host introduces his friend Potric. Potric is from Ireland and is currently volunteering in Spain. He talks about his small island called Torry Island and how it is part of a region in Ireland where Irish is the main language. Potric has traveled to various places including England, Greece, Spain, Italy, and Croatia for different projects. He explains that he travels because it helps him grow personally and learn new things. He is currently enjoying the ESC project in Spain and feels peaceful and happy with the group. His advice is to stop caring about what others think and focus on oneself. Hello guys, welcome in the third episode of my podcast Salut les groupons. In this third episode, you will discover my friend Potric. Disclaimer, it's my first project of podcast, so it's not perfect. But the objective here is not to be perfect, but to be yourself. So, enjoy! We are here in Extremadura in Spain for an EFC project of permaculture. I'm here with Potric. Hello, my name is Potric Duggan. I'm from Ireland. I'm from a small island in the northwest. I'm here as a volunteer in La Haya and trying to learn Spanish and other stuff. It's going pretty good. How old are you? I'm 19 years old and I just finished high school not long ago. So, I'm on a gap year, gap year and a half of trying to see other stuff in the world before I start university in September. Ok, very well. Can you tell me a bit more about the place where do you live in Ireland? Because I don't know your place. It's a small island called Torry Island. It's 15 km off the northwestern coast of Ireland. It's like 5 km long and 1 km wide. So, it's pretty small. There's 130 people living there, including myself. It's really small. Yeah, and we're all fluent Irish speakers. So, we're in a region of Ireland called the Gaeltacht, which is a region where we only speak Irish as our first language. We all have English too, but Irish is the main language and we're one of the last areas. Ok, thank you. Do you have travelled before to another place in the world or in Ireland? Yeah, when I was younger I went on many holidays with my family, like 2 or 3. I went to Liverpool in England, Zakynthos in Greece and Ibiza in Spain and Majorca too actually. And by myself recently, this year I went to Amsterdam, I went to Croatia, I went to Turin in Italy and now Spain, Extremadura. In Croatia it was with ESC project? Yeah, it was another project, like a 2 week project in Croatia, picking olives. Ok, thank you. I have a question, I think it's a really large question, but why do you travel? I travel because I think it's a really fast way to get personal growth. I think you develop, you learn new things very quickly because you're kind of just thrown into the deep end. You don't know how to do things in this country, you have to learn things, different cultures, different languages, how to do your daily life all over again. So it's very fun and I think it's one of the best ways to challenge yourself and become a better person I suppose. Ok, thank you, I really agree with you. How do you feel right now in the ESC project with the group, with the things you learn here and with the place? Because we are like in the middle of nowhere, I think that's really different than your country and than my country too. I feel pretty good, I'm really enjoying it. Even though we're in the middle of nowhere, there's a lot of us here together, so it's a nice break, it's very peaceful. We're working with animals, we're working with plants, it's very nice. I get on with most of the people here, I get on with everyone here I should say. I'm really enjoying the atmosphere with everyone. We're five, six days in and it's still pretty good. I'm really enjoying it. I'm learning Spanish too while I'm at it. Ok, thank you. To finish, one thing to tell, one advice. I'm trying to think of some words of wisdom. I suppose just to stop caring about what other people think or what other people are doing. What anyone else is doing other than yourself, just focus on yourself. Who cares what John down the road or Jimmy down the road is doing, just live your own life I suppose. Ok, thank you so much.
