Nothing to say, yet
There we go. Oh, we're cooking with dad now. Wow. I can turn it down a little bit. That's like first try. It seems like everything is working. That's crazy. Wow. We're professionals now. We're such bros. Hey, Sarah. Hey, Celeste. How's it going? It's going great. How are you? I'm all right. Yeah, I'm feeling much better now. Good. Are we ready to try WTF WJD? I think we are. All right, let's try. I'd like to know. All right. We need to... For the people listening. We need to be adults about this. Mm-hmm. It is commencement season. Sure is. People are graduating all over the place. Congratulations. Congratulations, class of 2024. Yeah. There was a speech that went viral. Let's listen to it. Let's. Speech video. Ladies and gentlemen of the class of 2024. I would like to start off by congratulating all of you for successfully making it to this achievement today. As a group, you witnessed firsthand how bad leaders who don't stay in their lane can have a negative impact on society. While COVID might have played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique. Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of this order. Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally. He has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I'm sure to many people, it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice. Priests and nuns pre-Roe facilitated like an underground network for women to get the abortions they needed. These priests and these nuns, Catholic, decided that it wasn't for them to judge, it was for them to protect these women and allow women a choice. It's almost as though they believe God gave us free will and these abortions were going to happen one way or another. Well, and that's the thing that, I mean, you can outlaw abortion, but you cannot eradicate abortion. No, no, outlawing leads to women bleeding out on graves in a Tijuana hospital. So you're saying that these priests and nuns decided that these women's lives were valuable. Yes, that they had their whole lives yet to live and children to have when they were in a home that could provide for those children. It is safe to say that over the past few years, I've gained quite the reputation for speaking my mind. I think he's about to speak his mind at us. I think so. I'm getting the feeling that this guy does not know graduation speeches are supposed to be empowering. That's one word I'm thinking of. Uplifting. Uplifting, inspirational. About the graduates. Hey, this is where we get into this. He is talking about stuff he wants them to pay attention to in their lives going forward. Okay. Alright, that's where he's getting off on talking to us. Okay, okay. Our Catholic faith has always been counter-cultural. I'm sorry, has it always been counter-cultural? Is it still counter-cultural? I mean, there's a lot of Catholics in this world and have been for quite a long time. Well, and I would beg, I understand having been raised Catholic that Catholics believe that they are the one true church. As every religion does. Exactly. There was a time where there was nothing but Catholicism in Western civilization. Right. In the history of the Catholic Church. There was a time they had all of Europe and a lot of the Middle East. And a lot of money. And a lot of power. I think they still have those latter ones. Yeah, yeah. The world around us says that we should keep our beliefs to ourselves whenever they go against the tyranny of diversity, equity and inclusion. I'm sorry. He's like the vegan of a Catholic. He's like the vegan Catholic. He's like, look, I know it's not really popular, but I need to tell you within five minutes of knowing you. That I am a Catholic. Well, and I would say, I forget the first thing he said, but diversity and inclusion would describe the life and contemporaries of Jesus Christ. You mean Jesus liked a buried group of human beings, not just one? Wild to say, but I know. He was a real open guy. Yeah. So, all right. Let's see what else Mr. Buck has to say. Okay. We fear speaking truth because now, unfortunately, truth is in the minority. Congress just passed a bill for stating something as basic as the biblical teaching of who killed Jesus to land you in jail. But make no mistake, before we even... I'm sorry, real quick. Should we talk about anti-Semitism in a speech? They really, really believe that they're not going to be able to talk about their faith. Or do they just want an excuse to say that the Jews killed Jesus? In case anyone forgot, it was the Jews. There's not enough time today for me to list all the stories of priests and bishops misleading their flock. But none of us can blame ignorance anymore and just blindly proclaim that that's what fathers said. He's right. Because sadly, many priests we are looking to for leadership are the same ones who prioritize their hobbies or even photos with their dogs and matching outfits. You mean like prioritizing your golf game? Oh! Or your foreign policy? I'm sorry, golf isn't a hobby, it's a way of life. Everybody knows that. It's easy for us laymen and women to think that in order for us to be holy, that we must be active in our parish and try to fix it. Yes, we absolutely should be involved in supporting our parishes, but we cannot be the source for our parish priests to lean on to help with their problems. Why not? A parish priest doesn't have any problems. Oh, right. I think that's what he's saying. Yeah. They walk right with the Lord. That's definitely not how people get into trouble. No, being a pillar for your community and never talking to anybody about anything that you might need. Tragically, so many priests revolve much of their happiness from the adulation they receive from their parishioners. What does this have to do with graduation? What does this have to do with society? In searching for this, they let their guard down and become overly familiar. This undue familiarity will prove to be problematic every time, because as my teammate's girlfriend says, familiarity breeds contempt. Jesus and Peter were intimately involved. How intimately? A day hanging out? I think that's a podcast for another day, but yeah, eating together, praying together, traveling together. They were probably talking about their lives. They probably were very intimately aware of the day-to-day of each other. We cannot buy into the lie that the things we experienced during COVID were appropriate. Over the centuries, there have been great wars, great famines, and yes, even great diseases. All that came with a level of lethality and danger. But in each of those examples, church leaders leaned towards their faith. They leaned towards their faith. They leaned towards their faith. They leaned towards their faith. But in each of those examples, church leaders leaned into their vocations and ensured that their people received the sacraments. Well, you know what? In the time of the Black Death, the Pope, the main Catholic, he made a Pope memo about how people, anybody who dies in the Black Death, they're fine. They get a green light. They get a waiver. Yeah. So the Pope has that power to give people last-ditch waiver. He could have just done that blanket for anybody who died alone with COVID. Yeah. Did he? I don't know. We're going to have to look that up. Is he not as powerful as the medieval Pope? Maybe not. He's a little... I guess they're not nearly as corrupt as they used to be, I guess. They had more power back then, didn't they? Oh, the good old days. The good old days. It's not a memo. Like a mass decree? Mandate? Papal bull. Papal bull? Is that what it is? Papal? Papal. It's papal, right? It's papal. Yep. It's like a mandate, a dictate, something along those lines. Yeah. Okay. So anyway... So you're wrong, Harrison. He's teaching us history, but he's not right. Right. He is incorrect. As we get the leaders we deserve, but this does make me reflect on staying in my lane and focusing on my own vocation and how I can be a better father and husband and live in the world, but not be of it. Focusing on my vocation while praying and fasting for these men will do more for the church than me complaining about her leaders. Which he's just done for the past almost ten minutes. Yeah, he's taking that serious. Okay. Good for him living his truth. Mm-hmm. He's passionate. Yeah, and he's been given a podium to stand behind, and he's not going to let that go to waste. That's right. That when you embrace tradition, success, worldly and spiritual, will follow. That little statement almost bordered on prosperity gospel, leaning into the tradition of poverty and generosity and leaving behind your worldly goods and possessions. We could probably think of some other traditions we've leaned into. What I personally loved is when the suffragettes leaned into the tradition of women not voting. Oh, for sure. The tradition of not having seatbelts in our cars. I love that. That's a good one to keep forever. The tradition of women not being able to have their own bank account, credit card, own their own home. Mm-hmm. I mean, some of those traditions weren't broken until the 80s. I'm certain the reporters at the AP could not have imagined that their attempt to rebuke and embarrass places and people like those here at Benedictine wouldn't be met with anger, but instead met with excitement and pride. Not the deadly sin sort of pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride. Ew. I'm sorry, can we just talk about that for a second? I believe this is alluding to gay pride month. That must be what he's talking about. Not the deadly sin sort of pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. So, celebrating the fact that you're going to love yourself in the image that God created you in, if you believe in that sort of thing, and that you're not going to let people oppress you. Right. That is not the same kind of pride as lying about your golf game every day. And absolute refusal to admit when you're wrong. Yeah. Being gay in the face of gay pride is not about being proud that I'm gay. Like, being gay is just who I am, as much as I have blue eyes and I'm short and whatever. It is, like you said, a pride that I will fight against oppression. It's a pride that we're still here, after a lot of attempts to, and current attempts to wipe us out. So it isn't so much that personal sort of dangerous pride as it is. And then I think about having been a gay kid in a Catholic environment, I think about however many gay, trans kids that are in this audience, and the way they must feel right now. Yeah. And how Christian is that? Yeah. Being locked in with your vocation and staying in your lane is going to be the surest way for you to find true happiness and peace in this life. It is essential that we focus on our own state in life, whether that be as a layperson, a priest, or religious. Ladies and gentlemen of the class of 2020. A layperson, a priest, or a religious? He, I think, is referring to religious women. Nuns. Oh, okay. I don't know why he didn't just say that, but. Okay. Well, you know, he likes tradition. Yeah. You are sitting at the edge of the rest of your lives. Each of you has the potential to leave a legacy that transcends yourselves and this era of human existence. For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly, because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. Can we talk about diabolical lies I've been told? Oh, yeah. I might have some, too. Marriage is good for you. Mm-hmm. Being a mother is going to be the most fulfilling thing you'll ever do. If my boobs aren't big enough, I'm not worth talking to. Yep. I should smile more. I'm not a good driver. I am irrational. Oh, yeah. Way too emotional. All the holes in my walls that I've punched, menstruation, is nasty. It's disgusting. Because we have an entire aisle at the grocery store dedicated to it. All the different things. And we have to have probably at least one of each, because women are really material. They want a lot of things. And they should be pretty, too. Well, you know, you're not going to get very far unless you put some makeup on. Right, put some effort in. High-heeled shoes make our legs look great, so they're worth wearing. Beauty is pain. I think I was told a lie that the pain is worth it. Oh, God. Was the pain ever worth what you got in return? Never. How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. Would you venture to guess that? Well, he would. Yeah. I mean, personally, I could barely make it through college because I was designing wedding dresses on all of my notepads. I think so much about being a wife and mother. There's not much time left for other thoughts. Well, the good news is, I think that Harrison is going to let you know that you've been on the right track. I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabel, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I'm on this stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I'm beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all, homemaker. Wow, did you see his head pop up when he said that word? Yeah. Homemaker. She just had a religious experience. I think he did. I hope that she loves him back because he did say that he's got quite a few talents. Do you know what they are? He can kick a football. Is it really me following God or following my truth or whatever it is if I don't have any choice in it? Right. If it's just the lane you were born into? Right. That doesn't seem like a choice. Oh, that's people applauding for Kim Raver and a homemaker. Twice. Probably mostly twice. Yeah. I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand how much happier someone can be when they disregard the outside noise and move closer and closer to God's will in their life. Isabel's dream of having a career might not have come true, but if you asked her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation and say, heck no. You want to know why? She's married to a rich guy. Yeah, right? Heck no. Heck no. You know how many nannies this woman probably has? Right. You know, this woman who loves being a homemaker? I bet they have a maid. I bet they do. Maybe even a cook. Probably. One income isn't enough. One income is never enough. It's never enough. Harrison Buckner's fine. He's got NFL money. Right. Yeah. Isabel is fine. She's got a maid. Yeah. As men, we set the tone of the culture, and when that is absent... Oh, my God. Like Madonna? Yeah. Oh, wait. I forgot she's bad. I was going to say like Lady Gaga, but again. Again. She's bad. Bad. So this is my talking. When women are pop stars, they're bad. Bad. Okay. Harlots. It's not... Sometimes having men in the home leads to 100% more violence in the home. Absolutely. Be unapologetic in your masculinity. Fighting against the cultural emasculation of men. Oh, my God. Sorry. What I'm getting from him is that to be a man, you must be a leader, and that's pretty much it. That's it. That's... Yeah. You're good. And be in the home. Yeah. Masculinity. Yeah. Is very important. Very. The most. Good on him for loving being a bro. Yeah. You know, he's got a fine beard. He does have a good beard. He's got a good skin routine. Can we talk about the word emasculating? Emasculation? Sure. Let's... I wish I could remember exactly how my daughter put it. Something about masculinity that can be wounded in a way that is more... It puts more weight on masculinity, right? In the case of a man can be emasculated. That means they can be taken down. It's implying that masculinity is something to be protected, revered. It almost paints masculinity in this... It gives it this fragility that it could be taken so easily. Yeah. And as women, it's our job not to take it. Right. Ever. Right. There isn't, that I'm aware of, a comparable word in regards to femininity. Because women have been condescended to since day one. Yeah, and it's not viewed as valuable. In the same way. Nail. Head. Nail. You hit it. This is the part where he doesn't want us to know what they're saying. Right. Right. Stay away from the Bible. Pre-Reformation. Don't know what they're saying. Also, because the priest, who is a leader, he will tell you what to think. Yes. He will tell you what the Bible says. Or not. You know what I mean? Like, maybe you just don't even need to worry about it. You were made for this. And with God by your side, and a constant striving for virtue within your vocation, you too can be a saint. He doesn't get to decide that we're in a post-God world. That's not true. I tried searching the phrase free will today in the biblical concordance online. And it comes up so much. Mostly in the context of offering a free will sacrifice. Because it was so important that that sacrifice to God was when you were making a free will. Because that's all. That's what God wants, is your love. If you were being forced to do that, it would be a bad faith sacrifice. Well and right. Is it really love if it's coerced? You know, I've had time to think about that. I don't think so. No. Yeah. And the crazy thing about free will, and about staying in your lane, I'm fine if Harrison stays in his lane. That's the lane he's chosen. He's passionate about it. He's obviously successful. He doesn't, though, get to dictate what lane I'm in. So there's this from Galatians. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh. Rather, serve one another humbly in love. Aww. Okay, so God loves free will. Okay, I'm sorry. Christian God, the Jesus bro, loves the free will. Yes. Like I said, it doesn't count if it's coerced. It doesn't count if you're telling me that's what I have to do. Sure, because we should be coming at it with love. If I'm told to do something I don't want to do, I do not feel love for it. Usually the opposite. And, you know, for all the people that don't want to be a stay-at-home parent, for one reason or another, if they're stuck in the home, that's going to cause so much resentment. And you know what? If he wants to know, if he wants to understand what I mean by that, he can spend an entire week just him and his kids. Yeah. Yeah. And he can say, well, I couldn't do it because that's not... I have all these masculine things I need to do. I have all these talents, and that's not my role, that's not my lane. But I mean, I just can't even... I don't think we could ever quantify the amount of resentment and depression that has come out of women who were forced, felt forced, by societal expectations to stay home. Yeah, you want to know why women are so angry now? Well, guess what? We've been angry a really long time. Yeah. Because now we can buy ourselves a microphone. Yes. Harrison wants to go back to her world before we could do that. Right. We wouldn't have even left the house. Yeah, I probably wouldn't have known what a podcast is. We wouldn't have a credit card to order podcasts with money either. That's for sure. Yeah. Well, I mean, if my husband loves me enough, maybe he'll buy me a microphone. Maybe he'll indulge your little hobby. I can't let my hobby be too worldly. Or get in the way of your calling as a wife and mother. So we've talked about the fact that the Bible says free will is good. Yes, and God-given. Can we talk for a minute about judgment? Yes, please. So the Bible says about judgment. Oh my gosh, it says, do not judge. That's pretty bold. Wow. Or you too will be judged. Harrison, sorry bro, but you put yourself out there. That's why we're laughing at you. We're not supposed to judge. We're not supposed to condemn. But we are allowed to throw shade. We're allowed to whistle our dog whistle to let people know that we don't like death. Right, like even that, and this is not, I don't say this as a gay person. I just say this as like, that comment about gay pride month was so unnecessary. It was 100% designed to be applauded by the people who are also homophobic. Right. Yeah, it just was like, that just was so unnecessary. Unnecessary. Like we're not even talking about that. Harrison? Yeah, why doesn't he stay in his lane? What does he know about being gay? Probably not much. He probably shouldn't talk about it at all. Yeah. Because free will is a gift from God, and therefore good, it is not for me to judge at all, much less judge someone else's use of free will. Yeah, what gives us the right to say, oh, you're making the wrong choice, because that's not my choice to make. No, and I get to choose what lane I'm in. Yeah, luckily in this country, we're not born into a specific lane. And, right, we can change lanes. We can, actually. I mean, yeah, people in this country change lanes all the time. I did several times on the way over here tonight. Congratulations to you! I know. Harrison and I have more in common than I thought. Yeah, I don't know. I liked what I was reading today about how the major gifts from God were free will and love. And if God, in his or her omnipotence, has made it very clear that we have free will, who are you, man, to take it away? Harris, before we go, I want to wish you a happy bride. I'll be reveling in the deadly sin that is pride. The deadly sin of not staying in that goddamn closet. Oh, I know. Come on, if you would just keep it to yourself, the rest of us could pretend it doesn't exist. I should have just gotten married to a man. That's another diabolical lie, is that I'm less of a woman, I'm less feminine. Yeah, that's definitely a diabolical lie. Yeah, if you don't like the D, you must not be completely gay. Listen, I know plenty of straight women who don't like the D, so. So suck on that, Harrison. Okay, would you like to talk about anything else this evening? No. I think they did a good job of judging his speech, telling him to stay in his lane. I think we gave it right back to him. Well, sure, I mean, judge not, lest ye be judged. Kind of left himself open for it. I think he was asking for it. He was wearing that robe, as if he was giving a commencement speech. You know, come on. That he knew would be posted. He knew it was going to go viral fame. I think what we're experiencing right now is a frightening backlash, because there are a lot of lost and angry young men in this world that are being fed from the Andrew T. Mm-hmm. That there is one version of masculinity. Yeah. What they're not aware of, because they're not looking out of their narrow field of view, is that you get to define masculinity. Right. You get to be comfortable in your own skin. Right. Like, I've had people say to me, like, well, you don't look like a woman. And it's like, but I do, because I am. You very much look like a person that you are. Right. I've been, yeah, when I was 17, I gave a lady, or, sorry, I must have been 18, I was buying cigarettes. I got carded. I gave her the card. She looked at it. She's like, this is a boy. And I'm like, yeah, lady, thanks. You know, that meant a lot to me when I was 18. I can give a shit now. Yeah. Like, I've heard that more than once. And so the same can be said for masculinity. Yeah. Like, it is what you say it is. Because, which, that'll piss a lot of people off. It is what you say it is because it's a construct? Because it's a construct and because it's based solely on your experience. Imagine that. Like free will. Yeah. It seems like the Bible actually cautions pretty heavily against that. I think so, too. Catholics use the same Bible, right? Yeah. But they'd rather you not read it. Oh, well, yes. That's true. Yeah. Once the printing press came along, though, it was all over. All over. And you know what? Women keep learning to read. And talking and talking and talking. Women talking is very dangerous. So we should do some more of this in another couple of weeks. We should definitely do this. Yes. And, I mean, that's the thing is that, unfortunately, it does all still need to be said. There's still, I mean, we still, you and I certainly feel like there still needs to be a discussion. Yeah. And if any of these episodes make it to, you know, a wider audience, I'm sure we'll get a backlash, too. But you know what? All right. Let's go ahead and wrap this up. All right. Okay. Okay. So check us out on the socials. That's a cheesy thing I want to say. No, what I want to say in closing is, you know, we love you. We do. And you know we don't know what we're talking about. We don't. But you should really listen to us some more next time. Yes. And you should follow us on all our social media. We'll figure it out. It'll be there. All right. Bye.
