I didn't realize it was her mother. I mean, it's a family member, so we need to remember her and her prayers and her family. And we got other prayer requests. Let's pray for Pamela. She hasn't been on the web. She's had lots of issues. So, we'll go ahead with our prayer. Charles, pray for everybody. You and Kiki and the other time that job you're looking for. It's still pending. So, Charles, would you go ahead with our prayer? Yeah. Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus. We're so thankful that you're waking us up this morning. We're not being thankful, Lord. Help us to live. Have a lot of gratitude towards you and all that you're doing in our lives and have done. Father, we confess our sins to you. Please forgive us, Father. You have one minute remaining. Father, we pray for your comfort. We pray for everybody who's on the line and who haven't been on the line. We pray that you will keep us, Father, focused on your word. Help us to seek to do what pleases you. We also like to be mindful of the Calvin family, Father God. We pray for strength for them. We pray for comfort. We pray for healing, Father God. We pray that they will call out to you, Father God, and say that you delivered them, Father, from all that they're going through. We'd like to pray for Michelle and Kiki as well. We pray that things work out best for them. We'd also like to pray for all who have prayed with us, Father God, and even those who didn't even speak up. You know their hearts, Father. All right, there's David on the line, but he's probably working. Good morning, David. Good morning. No work. So I have Matthew 4, 4, which we're going to go over today. Jesus said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. And if we don't have anymore, Jesus said, we'll start into the lesson. On lesson 9 in the book, which covers Luke 4, 1 through 14. And, Tim, would you read that as far as Luke 4, 1 through 14? Okay. Is it 14 or 15, 1 through 15? You can go to 15. Okay. Then Jesus began being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for 40 days by the devil. And in those days he ate nothing, and afterwards, when they had ended, he was hungry. And the devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Then the devil, taking him on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdom of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to him, All this authority I will give you, and their glory, for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if you will worship before me, all will be yours. And Jesus answered and said to him, Get behind me, Satan. For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only you shall serve. Then he brought him to Jerusalem, set him on the pinnacles of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here. For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you. And in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. And Jesus answered and said to him, It has been said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him. And the other day he was crying out, I'm going to be at the school either to pee out. You don't tempt me, so I won't go get in that line for no nothing, all right? And look, you need to take your hand in the hand, because you got degrees. You need both of them. Okay. Can you mute? Okay, it's muted. So, this record of the temptation of Jesus, there's a lot that we can learn from that about Jesus and ourselves, about how that we can resist temptation. And Coco, can you read Matthew 4, verses 1 through 11? Yes. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, afterwards he was hungry. Now when the tempter came to him, he said, You are the Son of God, commanded these stones to become bread. But when he had fasted, it was written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Then the devil took him up into the holy city, laid him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for he is rich. He shall give his angels charge over you. And their hands shall bear you up, lest you dash your feet against a stone. Jesus said to him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. Again, the devil took him up on a seemingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, All these things I will give you if you fall down and worship me. And he said to him, Away with you, Satan. For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God in him only you shall serve. Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him. Verses 12 and 13. Did you say me? Yes. The spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness, where he was tempted by Satan for forty days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him. So the commentator says, A command that is found in thy bread. In verse 1, Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost. This is comparable to 4.14 where it is said that he returned the power of the Spirit into Galilee. While in the flesh, Jesus possessed divine attributes because he was God. Matthew 1.23. Charles, can you read Matthew 1.23? All right. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us. All right. Okay. The commentator says to explain how he was both God and man beyond mortal comprehension. And I want to say that's certainly true to understand. And some of the explanations that people come up with, and especially it seems like the more learned the person is, the more false the explanation they come up with. But I think we just have to accept what the Scriptures say about it and not try to think too deeply about it really. If we tell a six-year-old that he was both God and man, they don't have a problem with it. If we tell a man with a Ph.D. that he's both God and man, then they've got all kinds of issues with it. So I think that would be more like a six-year-old than a guy with a Ph.D. and accept what the Scriptures say about it. And he also says, perhaps, finite minds would better serve any explanation of the infinite by simply stating that the Holy Spirit was with him and enabled him to have powers of deity while in the flesh. Go back to Patricia. Patricia, would you read John 3, 34? Okay. Alright, it says, Alright, it says, Okay. So I think what he's saying here is that there was no limitation to the spirit that he gave to Jesus. Remember that the spirit descended upon Jesus when he was baptized, and there was no limitation to his powers at all. And we go over to the apostles. They received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I think there was some limited things. They couldn't do everything that Jesus could do. And then we go to those that the apostles laid their hands on. And some of them, they were very much limited to less than what Jesus could do. They'd have one that had miraculous knowledge, and then you had another one that could speak in other languages. But that might be the only thing that they could do that was miraculous. Another could prophesy. There's a place in Corinthians that lists the different gifts of the spirit, and they were given with limitation. But Jesus was completely without measure, without limitation. So let's look at Psalm number 606. You got your psalm book, Charles? Yeah, I got it. Yes, sir. Let's just say 606. Yes. All right. Okay. It's called, And it reads, Nor take it in vain. Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true. Look ever to Jesus. He will carry you through. Ask the Savior to help you, comfort, strengthen, and keep you. He is willing to aid you. He will carry you through. To him that overcometh, God giveth a crown. Through faith we shall conquer, though often cast down. He who is our Savior, all strength will renew. Look ever to Jesus. That's what we're thinking about. It's teaching others. It's especially good. It says, Add language to stain. Give me that one. Very good advice. About yielding not to temptation. And then, Would you read, I'll go back to Patricia. Patricia, would you read Hebrews 4, 14 through 16? All right. Hebrews 4, 14 through 15. I think that's it. Right there. Fourteen. Then, then, that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. Let us hold fast to our confession. We just want you to become or grow as a disciple of Christ, as a member of his body. And I warn you that there's nothing more dangerous than a person who's seeking personal disciples. We thank you, Father, for blessing us with the opportunity that we have, dear Father, to share with others the Christ and we just pray that we always on guard, dear Father, and take opportunity in those times that we can't share Christ with others. And we pray, dear Father, that we can speak boldly, Father, that your word that is able to save those souls, knowing, dear Father, that you're always by our side, that you will give us strength, dear Father, to endure whatever troubles may come to us and that we can be assured, Father, that we can do your work and know that we are blessed because of it. We pray, dear Father, that we would no longer conform to the ways of this world, that we would, that our hearts would change, dear Father, to conform to the likeness of Christ, our Lord and Savior, and the example, Father, that he set before us. We pray, dear Lord, that you would just be with us as we go our separate ways. Bless us, dear Father, to be able to come back together again at the next appropriate time.
