Welcome to Believe Together, a Churches Together in Cainchum, Saltonwood production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. T'was grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come. T'was grace that taught me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed. How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed. How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. Was blind, but now I see. Hello again. Peter here with you for the next hour of Believe Together. What an interesting way to start off our show with a heavy metal song. Yes, it was. That was Dan Vask singing Amazing Grace with his own special style. Now, of course, if you'd like to see the video, as usual with all of our music, go to our Facebook page and we've got links there. That was lovely. Now, I wonder if you've been listening to KTCR FM earlier today? Well, you are now, and maybe you'll discover what follows Believe Together if you keep listening after this show finishes. Or, of course, you could go to KTCR FM's website, ktcrfm.com, and have a look at the weekly schedule there, where you'll find all sorts of music and other shows on air 24-7. I wonder what you'd like to tune into. And now, a question for you that is not part of our Just for Fun quiz. We'll be talking about something later, but who do you think this is? It's not that easy being green. And now, it's time for this week's quiz. Over to you, Celia. Over the last few years, we have played lots of hymns and Christian songs on Believe Together. And recently, Jenny gave me a suggestion for a quiz. So, how well do you know your hymns and songs? And our first question is, the line, The Lord turn his face toward you, comes from which song? Is it Cornerstone, The Blessing, or In Christ Alone? Well, thank you, Celia. That's the first question in our real Just for Fun quiz this week. I'll have to wait till the end of the show to find out what the answer is. Now, here's my leprosy mission diary verse of the week. It comes from the book of Ephesians in the Bible. And it says, Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Put the armour on, the armour of God. Put the armour on, the armour of God. When the enemy attacks, it's time to get real. It's time to put on metaphorical steel. The armour of God will help you win the fight. To win against him, you gotta fight with God's might. You better suit up, with the armour of God. You gotta do it right, to fight the good fight. Bell of truth, the truth will set you free. Cast weight of righteousness, towards the enemy. Roots of peace, stand on solid ground. Shields of faith, no attack will take you down. Helmet of salvation, reject the fabrication. Sword of the spirit, win the confrontation. It's the armour of God, the armour of God. The armour of God, will help you stand firm. When you're down in the dumps, with nowhere to turn. Look to your Bible, to fight the devil's schemes. Ephesians chapter 6, verses 10 to 18. You better suit up, with the armour of God. There's no need to hide. There's no need to hide, with God on your side. Put the armour on, the armour of God. Put the armour on, the armour of God. Put the armour on, the armour of God. Put the armour on, the armour of God. That was epic armour of God song from the Bible song for kids. And now, over to Celia for the second question for the Just for Fun quiz. Second question. In the hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, what two words are missing from the line, what a privilege to blank, blank, to God in prayer? Yes, we quite often play that wonderful song, don't we? And indeed, it is a privilege to... Hmm, yes it is. We'll find out the missing words later. And now, for the Thought for the Week for the Keynsham Talking Newspaper. That's right, Blaze. And this month, we are joined by John Kahn, who used to be the minister at Keynsham Methodist Church. Over to you, John. I can't keep up with what's top of the popular music charts these days, but some songs are always popular. One of which is, always in fashion, When the Saints Go Marching In. It originated as a Christian hymn, of course, from the black American community, but was later played by many jazz groups. Perhaps the most popular rendering was recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1938. The basic theme is expressing the wish to go to heaven, with all the saints marching through the pearly gates. It's an appropriate song for this time of the year. For this past week, on November 1st, we celebrated All Saints Day. When we mark a number of the famous saints with their own special day, St. David on March 1st, or St. George on April 23rd, November 1st is reserved for all the not-so-famous. And there's a lot of them. I say a lot of them because, you see, I actually know quite a few. And I expect you do as well. Not those stained-glass-window saints, immortalized in cathedrals and churches, but those down-to-earth, ordinary people that we meet every day, to whom we might on occasion say, You're a saint! In the New Testament, St. Paul often refers to ordinary believers as saints. So he writes his letters to the saints in Rome, or the saints in Corinth. Paul saw anyone who loved Jesus and lived in his way to be saints. So you can see why I can say I know a lot of saints. Back to the stained-glass variety for a moment. At our Victoria Church in Keynsham, we have a stained-glass window with the four gospel writers portrayed, Mark, Luke, Matthew and John. All saints. Now, because the key centre was built right up against our church wall, no natural light reaches that window. So electric lights illuminate it. Without the lights on, it's very dull and colourless. But with the light shining through, it comes alive. And it's a joy and blessing. Which makes me think, maybe, the best saints are those where you can see the light of God's love shining through them. Just a thought. Sisters and brothers, this is Reverend Satchmo getting ready to beat out this another sermon for you. My text this evening, when the saints go marching in, here comes Brother Hickenbottom down the aisle with his trombone. Blow it, boy. . . . Oh, when the saints When the saints Go marching in Marching in Now, when the saints go marching in Marching in Yes, I want to be in that number Oh, when the saints go marching in . . . Now, when the saints When the saints Go marching in Marching in Oh, when the saints go marching in Marching in Yes, I want to be in that number When the saints go marching in . . . . . . . . . Well, what else could we play after that thought for the week from John? That was, of course, Louis Armstrong, the one and only, with When the Saints Go Marching In. And now, time for the final question for the Just a Fun Quiz. Over to Celia. And, finally, today, does the line, Praising my Saviour all the day long, Come from, All hail the power of Jesus' name, Be thou my vision, or blessed assurance? Well, thank you again, Celia. I do love singing these old hymns, and the new ones, too. But I must admit, I don't tend to remember the lines and what songs they're coming from. So, yeah, we'll find out later. Hey, you. If you are quite good at quizzes, it really is such fun to see if you can get three right, beating most everyone. Are there some additions that you would like to hear? I suggest you send some feedback, for that might get a cheer. Now, I'm sure many of you will already have come across these church bulletin board jokes, where it says the following appeared in church bulletins or were announced at church services. Now, don't take offence at anything. These are just jokes. The sermon this morning, Jesus walks on the water. The sermon tonight, searching for Jesus. Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. Don't let worry kill you off, let the church help. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs. The director will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing, break forth into joy. The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility. At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be, what is hell? Come early and listen to our choir practice. Low self-esteem support group will meet Thursday at 7pm. Please use the back door. This being Easter Sunday, we will ask Mrs Lewis to come forward and lay an egg on the altar. Oh, they are funny, aren't they, Peter? Indeed. Honest mistakes. Well, yes. But I wonder if you have ever had any funny notices at your church? If so, please let us know so that we can share them with everybody else. Thank you. At the beginning of this show, we played you this and asked if you knew who it was. It's not that easy being green. I expect lots of you realise that this is Kermit the Frog from Sesame Street. So why are we having this particular song this week? Well, last week we did mention that we are approaching the annual international COP conference. This year it's happening in the Middle East. But a couple of years ago it was in Scotland and we had songs written specially for that by the group Resound Worship. And we are going to play one of their songs in a couple of moments. It's called Let All Creation Sing. But before we hear that, we're going to listen to a little note here from KTCR about how this radio station is linking up with other radio stations all over the country in what is a first to promote this work of the COP conference. This year we've all seen the terrible effects of global warming and how it's affecting life on Earth. This November, for the first time ever, community radio stations from across the country are coming together for Our Earth Week, seven days where we shine the spotlight on the climate crisis and celebrate life on our planet. Find out how climate change is affecting your town, city or village and what your street and community can do to adapt to these changes. There'll be lots of conversation, quizzes, fascinating facts and figures and even food tastings. And if you want to get even more involved, you can take part in Our Earth Challenge with one action to take every day. All this and so much more on your community radio station with Our Earth Week starting Monday 20th November. Life on Earth is precious. Let's come together to save it. Let all creation sing for the Lord And every nation of the Earth rejoice Let all the trees lift a shout of joy For the Lord is King Let the deep waters of the sea resound Let every mountain, every from the blessing And that's a great favourite with this programme And what a friend we have in Jesus the line what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer Which is a very good thing to do Praising my saviour all today long comes from blessed assurance And it certainly is good to have that assurance everyday isn't it Well thank you again Celia yes those were the famous hymns and songs Well why can't we play them in the rest of this show of course we can So we'll get them in now over this next half hour But one thing we must mention here what a friend we have in Jesus Yes that's a very famous song or hymn about prayer And this time we have so much to pray about in the world Including the Israel Gaza conflict which must be heavily on all of our minds Because it's so much in our news on the telly at the moment and on the radio And it's a good reminder that the church in that part of the world Works together all the different Christian groups work together And we found over these last 24 hours notes from one of those Christian groups And we've put up links on our Facebook page Which gives you some more background about what all the different Christian groups are doing in the area And suggestions specific ideas about how to pray into that very difficult and complicated situation But here we are then what a friend we have in Jesus The Vagal Brothers bring us their version What a friend we have in Jesus All our sins and griefs to bear What a privilege to care What a friend we have in Jesus All our sins and griefs to bear What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer Oh what peace we often forfeit All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer Have we trials and temptations Is there trouble anywhere We should never be discouraged Take it to the Lord in prayer Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share Jesus knows our every weakness Take it to the Lord in prayer Are we weak and heavy laden Conquered with a load of
