In 1974, Richard Nixon was president, but he was facing impeachment due to the Watergate scandal. Paramount Pictures was preparing to release the sequel to The Godfather, called The Godfather Part 2. Barbra Streisand's song "The Way We Were" was popular. A Barbie camper belonging to Denise Malone was found destroyed on a Wyoming ranch. Forensics confirmed that pyrotechnics were involved. Memories of ski trips and driving with the friend are mentioned, as well as going to CET and learning to drive a stick shift. There are also memories of locking the friend in a locker, birthday celebrations, and cheering at Cherry Creek. The writer expresses gratitude for these memories and wishes the friend a happy birthday. The year is 1974. The president, Richard Nixon. But not for long. As a result of the Watergate scandal, the impeachment process is well underway come February 14th. Capitalizing on the success of Coppola's The Godfather, Paramount Pictures is gearing up to release its sequel, the imaginatively titled The Godfather Part 2. And Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were is topping the charts. A Barbie camper belonging to one Denise Malone is found destroyed on a Wyoming ranch. Forensics confirmed that pyrotechnics were involved in the destruction of Barbie's home. When asked for comment, brothers Adolphus and Patrick Malone declined to go on to the record, perhaps taking after their father's legal acumen. Memories like the corners of my mind. Misty waters and the memories of the way we were. Okay, here goes. A few memories. I wasn't with you but I remember stories of your ski trips and I think his name was Steve Erickson. I was very amused by those. I loved driving with you back from college. I also loved driving around with you in high school and how you picked me up every day and listened to Super Tramp all over the place. I remember going to CET. That was super fun. Long drives to the ranch. You basically taught me how to drive a stick shift. I regretfully remember locking you in a locker in high school, probably with ginger. That was bad. I remember your mom making me curry for my birthday but I really remember you coming to my house and decorating for my 16th birthday, maybe with Tracy. And I woke up to balloons and streamers and strawberry daiquiris. Super fun. So many wonderful memories. I remember cheering a very special cheer of get the fuck on down the field and do it like a man at Cherry Creek. And sitting with you while you did lacrosse darts. Anyway. Gosh. Lovely, fabulous memories all over the place just swarming through my heart and head right now. And grateful for every single one of them. Love you. Happy birthday. Happy birthday to you.
