Welcome to the podcast Corporate Social Responsibility, Businesses, Welfare, or Destruction, where we discuss the impact of CSR on the environment and the economy. I'm your host Austin Lee here to share my findings of how companies will enact CSR into their procedures and the pros and cons of doing so. If you love the environment like me and want to learn about what businesses are doing to support the environment, this is the right podcast for you. So you're probably wondering what CSR is. Well in this podcast I will cover what CSR is, how it benefits the workplace, environment, and economy, examples of it in real world corporations, and more. So without further ado, let's get right into it. The most direct definition for CSR is, quote, the idea that a company should play a positive role in the community and consider the environmental and social impact of business decisions. So basically it is the process of a business conducting practices that are more wary of their footprint, most commonly their environmental footprint. It can also be interpreted as an appeal to the public and their stakeholders to boost their company's reputation. As a result, CSR has four main types, environmental, ethical, philanthropic, and economical. Environmental is the most common type of CSR because of the increase of attention that is brought to the environment and climate change. As a result, CSR is extremely important now as consumers want to know about the negative externalities caused by production activities. This forces companies to create and practice more sustainable operations, effectively practicing CSR. And finally, this is a pretty concise summary of what CSR is. In episode one, we will go more in depth covering what practices companies will enact for sustainability, how they are beneficial, and examples of companies that have these practices.
