Hi there, welcome to Teacher Podcast, my name is Ashley Swisher Arnold and I'm a current student in ADN 414 through the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Today, I'm going to be talking about integrating art into the classroom. I'm going to do this through the following standards through the Theater Performing section, THPR 412B, and this standard states, alter voice and body to expand and articulate nuances of a character in a guided drama experience. Examples given can include process drama, story drama, and creative drama. I'm also going to give you a brief idea of how to use the standards in an integrated arts lesson. Don't worry, when I say brief, that doesn't mean I'm not going to expand on it in future lessons. That means you should stick around for our podcast. To understand arts integration, I need to explain the difference to you. When I thought of arts integration before learning the lessons that I have, I used to think of adding crafts to classwork, and to be honest, I still struggle to differentiate between art in hands and arts integrated after 12 weeks in school. Arts integration is helping students process lessons and curriculum information in more engaging ways. Integrated arts into the classroom helps students become problem solvers and they also get to take an active and experimental role in their learning. Examples of this can be seen in the previously mentioned standard, THPR 412B. My example of this would be where students can act out the life of a butterfly through a representation of changing their voice through each aspect of the butterfly's life. Through this action, they are furthering their understanding of how the life cycle of a butterfly works from the beginning of a caterpillar all the way to the end when they become a beautiful butterfly. The various stages should have various dance moves to explain how things work in addition to their ever-changing voice. Today I took the time to talk to you about integrating arts into the classroom along with touching on one art standard and giving a brief example of that. In the next episode of Teacher Podcast, I'm going to give a more in-depth look into the art standard and how to implement it into the classroom with the state standards. My sighting included using the Kennedy Center for Articles. Hi, my name is Peyton and welcome to the Teacher Podcast. I'm a current student in the ECN 303 section at Unity Wilmington. Today I'll be talking about the following standard, SD16C. The standard states, students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating and using a variety of digital objects such as visualization, models, or simulations. In a brief way, I will be talking about the standard integrating technology into my lessons. Thinking about integrating technology into the classroom, I thought about how easy it is nowadays. Every classroom I have ever been in has had a projector or smart board. I have never not had access to a computer in school. I realize how privileged I am that I have all these things available to me as a student growing up. Throughout my time spent in the classroom, learning about all the ways to integrate technology into the classroom has opened my eyes. Integrating technology is more than just using technology in the day-to-day classroom. It is using technology to enhance a student's learning in an engaging way. This is not distracting to the lesson. Using the standard SD16C, students can create a project that goes along with the lessons. For example, Google Slides presentations rather than writing a book report. Today I talked about integrating technology into the classroom along with addressing a couple standards and giving examples. On the next episode of this podcast, I will give more in-depth technology standards and how to implement them in a lesson plan into your classroom. Thanks for listening. Bye.
