On April 10, 1814, the National Assembly gathered at Eidsvoll. Representatives arrived over a period of five weeks to write the constitution. Prince Christian Fredrik wanted to declare Norway as an independent nation, while some representatives supported the idea of a union with Sweden. 10. april 1814 ble Riksforsamlingen samlet på Eidsvoll. Representanterne kom fram i løpet av fem uker for å skrive grunnloven. Prins Christian Fredrik ville erklære Norge som en selvstendig nasjon, mens en del av representanterne støttet idéen om en union med Sverige.
