Cambodia Halts Export of Primates 12/12/22

00:00-00:59

Good news! Cambodia is halting the export of non-human primates (NHPs), according to animal rights groups Direct Action Everywhere and PETA. According to the U.S CDC, from 9/21 to 9/22 approximately 60% of the NHPs imported into the U.S. were from Cambodia. This occurred after PETA asked CDC to suspend all nonhuman primate exports from Cambodia this November. Animals continue to be tortured in laboratories all around the world, including our home city. The CDC and NIH were asked to determine the origin of macaque primates imported from Cambodia and in publicly funded labs. Cambodia has stopped exporting non-human primates, which is good news for animal rights activists. They hope this will halt animal experimentation. Andy mentions that animals are still being tortured in labs, including in Rochester. Visit arroc.org for more information. I'm Joseph here with Andy the activist who has recent developments following a motion by the CDC and NIH last November. The organizations were tasked with determining the precise origin of every macaque primate imported from Cambodia since 2017 and currently in publicly funded laboratories. Good news, Cambodia is holding the export of non-human primates according to Direct Action Everywhere, DXC. This occurred after the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asked CDC to suspend all non-human primate exports from Cambodia this past November. Many of the primates exported from Cambodia are sent to laboratories and we share DXC's hope that this news will put some animal experimentation on pause. Animals continue to be tortured in laboratories all around the world including our home city of Rochester. Thank you Andy. Learn more by visiting the Animal Rights Rochester website arroc.org. Thanks for listening.
