The hosts of the Late Night Podcast discuss Kanye West's new album, Vultures. They both agree that Kanye's music has declined in quality over the years and that Vultures is one of his worst projects. They criticize the lack of substance and distasteful subject matter in the album. They also mention the anti-Semitic references and express their disappointment with Kanye's recent stances. They rate the album a 6 out of 10 and 4 out of 10 respectively, and mention that Carnival and Paid are the only standout tracks for them. They conclude by saying that Kanye is in a different stage of his life and may never return to his previous greatness. What's going on, you guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Late Night Podcast. I'm your host, Jay Walker. And I'm your host, Lateef Bubba. Thank you for tuning in. Okay, so today I kind of wanted to talk about Kanye West's new album, Vultures. Lateef, I don't think you're a big Kanye fan. Are you? I'm not, especially not as of late. Obviously, his pre-album run is one of the best in music history. His discography is one of the best in music history. He's a legend. I've never taken that away from Kanye, especially what he's done in clothing and fashion, which I'm really big into. I own a lot of his Yeezys. And I think him in the fashion world influenced me a lot. But as far as musically over the last maybe like eight years, I just think it fell off dramatically. And Vultures, I can get into it. I feel like the subject matter was terrible. I'm not that bad. Before we hop into that, I just kind of wanted to explain that me and Lateef are big Drake fans. And he explained that he liked earlier Kanye West's music. But if I had to rank my top rappers, it would probably be Drake, then Kanye, number two. And I kind of wanted to agree with you, Lateef. I believe his last three projects, Vultures, Donda 2, Donda, and Jesus is King. I named more than last year, but those were his last recent albums. I wasn't too much of a big fan of Jesus is King, but I understood it. It was kind of a different lane that he was hopping into. I actually love Donda. I didn't really listen to Donda 2 as much as I should have. But you can hop into Vultures, which we're talking about with Vultures. I just think the subject matter, a lot of what people are going to focus on is the production. It's a Kanye album, obviously. Reproduction. He's one of the greatest artists ever. And a lot of that has to do with his producing. So obviously, the beats and stuff like that are pretty good or whatever. But the subject matter, it was just a lot of nothing. He was talking about, there's some really distasteful lines in it too by his current wife and a lot of anti-Semitic stuff in it as well. I don't think it has a lot of substance at all. I think it's probably his worst project, arguably one of his either worst projects or top two worst projects for sure. Everybody's getting hyped about Carnival. I'm not really a fan of that song that much either. I don't think Cardi had this groundbreaking verse. I don't think Richie K had this groundbreaking verse. I don't think Tyler Dolla $ign had this groundbreaking verse. I definitely gave it a listen a few times. I tried to make myself like it, honestly, because I saw a lot of people's opinions on it, but I just couldn't force myself to do it. It just lacked a lot of substance. I don't think it was any type of wordplay, any type of artistry. Not a lot of rapping. The rapping in it wasn't great. The little singing in it wasn't great. I kind of like what Tyler Dolla $ign did a lot in it, but literally Kanye was just rapping about anything. It wasn't a lot of rapping. It was just talking on track. Also, I like some of the samples on there too for sure though, but all that stuff had to do with the production. That's not what he's actually saying out of his mouth. It was like a six out of 10. Six out of 10? I'm actually happy that you rated it. Just being a big Kanye fan, I just didn't... I don't know. It's kind of hard to ignore his stances. I know a lot of people like to say just with how Kanye thinks and how he moves, especially in this day and age, a lot of people like to say, try to remove what he does and says away from the music. His music is always good, so we can ignore this, but it's kind of hard to do so when he includes it into the music. As you said earlier, he takes these anti-Semitic stances. He puts it into his songs. It's just honestly disgusting. It's distasteful and it's actually hard to listen to. As you said, I'm going to agree with you. I think that Vultures is probably one of the worst projects that Kanye West has put out. Just going through his whole discography, College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s and Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It's just so far removed from those great albums. It's actually hard to see. Hopefully, he can get back to that spot. He's just at a different point in his life where I don't think we'll ever see that type of, I don't want to say passing, because I still believe that he's very passionate, but it just comes out in different ways. He's at a different stage in his life. I know in the rap game or anything, we like to say, I miss the old Kanye, I miss the old Drake, but it just seems like we're never going to get that back. If I was to rate the album, honestly, I wouldn't even give it a six. I feel like giving it a six is just too generous. I'll honestly give it a four. The highlights on this project for me, I actually enjoy Carnival. I like the song Paid. Besides those two, it just didn't do it for me. That's all we have for episode two of Playback. I appreciate you guys for tuning in, just listening to our opinions. Yeah, we're out. Let's see if you got anything to say.
