2024 Titan Macquarie Mud Run - Rod Fardell (12th March, 2024)

The Titan Macquarie Mud Run is an event taking place this weekend that involves a challenging course with obstacles and lots of mud. Participants can choose to compete in a time trial or at their own pace. The event has received over 1,000 entries and the weather is expected to be perfect. The course is about 9km for adults and 4km for kids. The organizers create the mud by adding water to the soil in Regan Park, making it extremely slippery. The event includes various obstacles such as a river crossing, ice bath, and mud pits. The highlight of this year's event is the Mega Mound, which will be a surprise for participants to discover on the day. The event is open to people of all ages and fitness levels. The Titan Macquarie Mud Run is on this weekend, an amazingly messy collection of obstacles running along the Macquarie River. It encourages people to take it on in either a time trial fashion or at their own leisure. It's just a great day out for both adults and kids and to give us a rundown of what to expect, Titan Macquarie Mud Run Committee President Rod Fardell joins us. Cheers for coming on mate. Ah, pleasure. Absolute pleasure. How is it all going in the lead up to the event this weekend? We are looking absolutely fantastic. Our participation entries are through the roof, we're just over 1,000 right now. Oh, right. Obviously the weather's absolutely outstanding, it's going to be a brilliant day, brilliant course and we're absolutely pumped for Saturday. How big is the course this year? Well we don't like to tell our entries too much but no, they're about, the adults course, youth course over 15 is just over 9km. Ah, right, yep. And the kids course is around, just around 4km. And how much mud are we expecting? We're expecting a lot of mud. So we've got some beautiful obstacles and mud pits set up and obviously the Cameron Coggan Crossing is absolutely a major feature and if anyone goes to our Instagram account, they can definitely see the people coming out of that first mud pit and getting across that Cameron Coggan Crossing and they look like baby giraffes to be honest. How do you guys actually go about creating so much of this mud? It's bizarre to me. Well, it is a little bit bizarre itself but what happens is once you, the soil down there is absolutely beautiful in Regan Park and once you get enough water on it and then we get foot traffic over it, it becomes extremely slippery, extremely slippery. So it's perfect. You'll see a number of people just kicking off and lose their sneakers and they're happy in that first mud. Oh yeah, I was seeing some of the photos and people are in the mud up like halfway up to their knee. I'm going, you're going to definitely lose some footwear in that. Absolutely. Absolutely. It's so good. What's some of the, don't spoil it all, but what's some of the obstacles that are planned? Well, we're so fortunate within the Dubbo Precinct and working with Dubbo Regional Council that we can actually use our beautiful Macquarie River as part of the whole event. So we have a number of river, we have a river crossing, we have an obstacle net throughout the river and a river run. We have our ice bath, the freezing cold ice bath as part of the course, obviously a number of carries and our tunnels and our infamous mud pits, we've got traverse, but probably the biggest one this year will be the Mega Mound. The Mega Mound. What's involved in the Mega Mound? Oh, we can't let it do anything without the Mega Mound. Fair enough. Fair enough. It is mega. You'll have to turn up on the day and check that out. Oh boy. Right. Okay. That sounds slightly ominous, but also exciting. Very exciting. I'm guessing, judging by this and especially the Mega Mound, you have to be of either a certain age or a certain fitness level to complete some of these sections. You know what?
