This is a script for a storybook session called "Jane's Easter egg hunt." It involves using animals such as a tarantula, snail, snake, frog, cockroach, and rat. The session starts by arranging the audience in a semi-circle and introducing oneself as Ellen from Zoolab. The story is about a girl named Jane who goes on an Easter egg hunt and encounters various animals along the way. There are rules to follow, such as staying quiet and not touching the animals. The story ends with Jane finding a chocolate egg and making friends with a rat named Fred. The session concludes with a reminder to wash hands. Hi guys, it's Ellen here and today we're going to be going over our Jane's Easter egg hunt script. This is one of our storybook sessions and it is typically booked around Easter time. The animals that you'll use for this script are your tarantula, snail, snake, frog, cockroach and rat. The props that you would need for this script is your Jane's Easter egg storybook. So starting the session just like any other, arranging your audience in a semi-circle, having the book facing towards the audience so they can see the book as you're reading along. I then would introduce myself with, hi guys, it's Ellen from Zoolab and I have an amazing story for you today. This story is all about Easter. In this story we're going on an Easter egg hunt and along the way there is going to be lots of animals that we're going to meet. Some of the animals in the story you will be able to hold in your hands if you would like to. If you don't want to hold the animals you could stroke the animals and if you don't want to stroke them that's fine you could just give them a nice big wave. Now because there are animals in our story there are three rules that we need to remember. First rule is we all need to stay nice and quiet so we don't scare the animals. Second rule is to stay stuck to your spots so everybody can see the story and third rule is if you've touched an animal keep your hands away from your faces and at the end we'll give them a really good wash. Then I would start my story. So this story is all about a girl, a girl called Jane. She has brown hair, blue eyes and carries a toy train. She lives on a farm at the top of a hill where the sky is blue and the trees stand still. Jane is excited as it's a special day. Today is Easter. Jane skips through the hay. She's on an egg hunt round the farm for lots of fun. Find the chocolate egg before it melts in the sun. Jane begins her hunt searching under the skies. She's full of excitement as she looks for her prize. She searches the pig's thigh and sees Percy Pig. No eggs here, he says and uses his nose to dig. Wait, there on the fence is an egg I spy. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? This egg is too small so I am in doubt. It belongs to a spider. Let's leave it to hatch out. Then I would introduce your tarantula explaining why they're not going to be handled and then just giving your general tarantula facts like you would in any other session. Jane walked over towards the horse's field. One horse sat down and the other one kneeled. Her name was Winnie and she was brown all over. No eggs here, she neighed and laid in the clover. Wait, there on the ground is an egg I spy. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? This egg is too small so I am in doubt. It belongs to a snail. Let's leave it to hatch out. Then I would do your general snail facts and your handling as well. Jane walked through the field and sat on a log. She looked for the egg but saw the farm dog. Pippa loved playing and jumping around. She was playing with something there on the ground. Wait, there on the ground is an egg I spy. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? This egg is too small so I am in doubt. It belongs to a snake. Let's leave it to hatch out. Then I would introduce your snake, explain how to handle and go around doing your animal handling with your snake and your general snake facts as well. Jane walked to the pond where the ducks hang out. They were laying in the sun and began to shout. No eggs here, they all quacked together as they floated about washing their feathers. Wait, floating on the pond is an egg I spy. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? This egg is too small so I am in doubt. It belongs to a frog. Let's leave it to hatch out. Then I would introduce your frog, explain why they're not able to be handled but then just giving your general frog facts. Jane visits the goats named Billy and Gruff. She looks for her egg but is fresh out of luck. No eggs here, they bleat, waving their horns. But Jane spies something lying in the corn. Wait, there in the corn is an egg I spy. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? This egg is too small so I am in doubt. It belongs to a cockroach. Let's leave it to hatch out. Then introduce your cockroach and do your cockroach facts with your handling as well. Jane jumped in the tractor and there she sat. She scratched her head. Where could it be at? Shell the sheep saw Jane from afar. No eggs here, she said and gave a big baa. Shell came running over, sped up really fast. On her way there she tripped up on the grass. Down she fell and stopped by the wall. She noticed something strange and began to call. Right there in the stones beside the wall Jane found her egg once and for all. Jane jumped from the tractor and gave out a cry. Is this my chocolate egg for me to try? She sat on the wall and unwrapped her big egg but then she heard a squeak from behind the shed. A little rat came out and sat right next to Jane. He looked at the egg and then he squeaked again. They both ate the egg and it tasted so good. Jane shared the chocolate and the rat ate it too. She made a new friend and stroked the rat's head. I know what I'll call you. Your name is now Fred. Then I would introduce your rat or gerbil doing your handling and your regular gerbil or rat facts that you would give normally. And then to finish off, so everybody that was the end of our story. I hope you all had a lovely time but there is one thing that we need to do before we finish. That's right, we need to wash our hands so make sure you give your hands a really good wash but happy Easter and thank you all very, very much. Then I would pass them back to their teachers and finish your session.
