I'm your host Alvin Spain and for the next few minutes you get to come on a ride with me. Today we talk about our love and passion of sports as well as talking about upcoming big sports events. We got March Madness coming up later on. This month is arguably my favorite time of year. The NFL Combine just completed. We got to share some, we got to give some love to the ladies. It's Women's History Month today. We got a profile to look at as well. But first, as we talked about, the Y Sports Podcast is about fans identifying their love of sports. Where it came from, you know, who you've got it from, what makes you so enamored with the sports world today. May it be you come, you playing it yourself, maybe it came from your relative, whatever it is. I wanted to kind of share this story about me. Throughout my life, I played primarily baseball and then my knees got bad and I got a little out of shape. So ultimately, I decided to play softball. And I tell you, it was some of the most fun years I've ever had playing baseball. And I've always thought on the baseball field is where my truest self comes out. I always, people ask me, Alvin, how are you? How would you describe yourself? I would always tell people, watch me play softball. Watch me be loud. Watch me be a leader. Watch me be silly. Watch me be encouraging. Watch me be fired up. I think all the elements, the best elements of me, and maybe some of my work, come on an athletic field. That's kind of part of the reason why I love sports so much. Anybody here who knows me knows I'm a very passionate person. There are things that I love and I love to share that love to my people and I love to broadcast it out loud, right? So I love my wife, Kashay. She is just an amazing woman. I love my daughter, Leilani. She's just, she's just the coolest. She just did her first dance solo. So excited. But you know, anybody who ever asks about why, I'm a very passionate person. I love sharing stories, especially about the things that I love. That's really why this podcast has kind of taken place because I love sports and I love sharing my love of sports. So I hope, again, as you listen to this episode and other episodes, that if you ever have a story about that, hey, let's talk about it. Let's schedule some time. Let's rap about it. And again, I would love to hear from you. And again, we just want to know why you love sports so much. What is it that has brought you to the dance and what you want to watch and gain any day of the week? I mean, I tell you, true sports fans, especially football fans, they're watching the XFL, props to the Rocks, getting that league, going back again. And the games, I know they're not NFL quality, but they're still, those brothers are still playing hard. And I watched, I played against the Renegades then. Ah, forgive me. I can't remember their opponent, but it was actually a good game yesterday. It was a little boring, but there were some good plays that came out of there as well. And you know, like I said, I just love the competition. I love the camaraderie that comes up afterwards. So yeah, shout out to the XFL. And again, hey, just shout out to sports in general. Um, as we mentioned earlier, it is Women's History Month this month. And I was going through my mind as far as, again, this is like my first podcast, first week of podcast. And I'm like, who do I want to talk about? Um, so for me, like I said, I, I really got involved in lugging sports probably in the mid 90s. And, um, so the first athlete I really got to see, the first two great athletes I got to see from college and got to see his entire career was Shaquille O'Neal. Um, he was one of my favorites. And on the women's end, the first person I really got the chance to see and watch her career just become just a gold standard. Um, not just female athletes, but athletes in general. It's the person I want to profile today. She is Lisa Leslie. Um, the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game. She is 6'3", 6'4", and she is just a beast on the court. And if you ever read about her and watch her, she's a true lady, a true, true sportsman, and just a true good person off the court as well. Um, several, several key facts about her. She's a seven time, uh, WNBA All-Star and a three time All-Star Game MVP, three time WNBA MVP, eight time first team All-NBA honors, and two time Defensive Player of the Year. Of course, she is a, she is a Hall of Famer, an Olympic gold medalist, played her college basketball at USC. Uh, I can just go on and on to talking about the amazing Lisa Leslie. And again, I'll read off a couple of more of her statistics. And I tell you, you talk about a resume. It's one of the, again, it's not just one of the greatest female sports resumes of all time. It's one of the greatest resumes period. Again, as we talked about, eight time All-Star, eight time WNBA MVP, member of the WNBA 10th anniversary team, 15th anniversary team, 20th anniversary team, 25th anniversary team. This is a woman who is just represented, um, for herself, USC, and the nation so well. A four time Olympic gold medalist, a three time world champion, an absolute beast. Ladies and gentlemen, our profile of the day is Lisa Leslie. And as we do our podcast, especially here in the month of March, we'll identify another woman to celebrate her honors and just give, and just, just lift her up, man. Because again, people like Lisa Leslie deserves to be celebrated. Again, we use four podcasts to talk about all she did on the court, but she has been a tremendous philanthropist and tremendous humanitarian, humanitarian off the court as well. So much love to Lisa Leslie. Um, and I think actually for today, that's going to be pretty much it. I didn't have a lot to talk about on this podcast today because I wanted to save the next one specifically for March Madness. Right now we're in the conference tournament. Right now, uh, this time next week, I believe we'll know, uh, the college bracket, uh, selection Sunday. We'll take, we'll take place. Shout out to George Mason. We're praying that this year, this is the year they shot the A10. I mean, they, last week they beat Fordham. I mean, that's, that was like the one or two feet in it, the A10. So, uh, to Kim English and his boys, the best of luck to you this week and praying we get, we find a way to, if not the NCAA tournament, at least some form of postseason basketball. They deserve it as well. I mean, as we start to shape up our brackets, looking at teams like Texas and Kansas, uh, Purdue have been some of the elite basketball teams throughout the nation all year long, and they're looking to make their quest to win a national championship. Kansas, of course, is the defending national champion. So it'll be fun as we go through the brackets next week. I call it personally, Christmas in March, because they just don't get better than picking and identifying their own brackets, as many brackets as possible. Was it, uh, one of my favorite sports broadcasters, or one of my favorite sports shows of all time was Mike and Mike in the morning. So I believe it was Mike Greenberg who had the bracket of integrity. He only filled out one bracket. I couldn't do that. My man, Mike Golick, he filled out like 20 because it was all about the case. It was all about the cheddar, baby. So, and again, we're not gonna offer you no tips to win your bracket because I don't want y'all to put that on me, but let's have some fun. We'll pick out the teams that are going to win it next week when we get our brackets together and we'll see where everybody falls. And again, we'll look to do another profile of a tremendous female athlete this week. And I'll take all your suggestions as well as on who should we talk about? Should we go truly legendary? Should we go more modern? I think there's so many different ways we can go about it and celebrate the ladies who have made their true path in the sports world and have become unbelievable athletes and players. Again, not just lady athletes, but just athletes as a whole. So that's it for me for right now. I thank you all so much. We're gonna, we're still looking at time here. If you like what you're hearing, then we'll expand it like to 20 minutes and things like that. But right now, we're just trying to drop a little bit of, a little bit of snippets along the way and hopefully you all enjoy it. We'll extend it and like I said, we'll look to flesh out more time on this. But I want to thank you all so much for your time today and let's make sure we do it again too, soon. From our, from my crew, with my crew, from my crew, look at these guys, it's just me. We are the Wild Sports Podcast. Wild Sports, why not? Peace, I'm out.
