Hey everyone, welcome back to episode 13 of Reality Redefined, the ultimate reality podcast where we dive into the truth behind reality TV shows and I'm your host, Sham, and I'm here with our guests, Arthur, Laseem, and Ashley. Today we're going to be getting into the series called The Rehearsal, starring Nathan Fielder. In this show, Fielder uses actors in a fake setting to create a simulation of a significant event that participants on his show can rehearse over and over until they get it right. However, in an effort to make these simulations as real as possible, Fielder crosses the line and makes a few ethically questionable decisions, to say the least. Yeah, I agree. Even though the whole simulation is fake, the times when Fielder deceives his participants are very real. One example that really stuck out to me was when he was co-parenting a child with a woman named Angela, who is a devout Christian, and he told her they were going to swimming lessons when in reality they were going to synagogue. Yeah, and first, let's point out that Fielder himself is a devout Jew. He was raised Jewish and his parents told him that he should stand up for his beliefs. And I think that because Angela was so uncompromising about their child's religious education, Fielder kind of didn't have a choice. Yeah, I think during that talk, Angela made it very clear that she was not on board with Adam, who was their fake son, being exposed to Judaism because it rejected Christianity. But you also have to consider that this is all acting. Remember that one part when the child was actually Christian and Fielder had to tell him that Judaism was wrong and he was going to go to hell because he was a Jew? That's got to really confuse a child, you know? Absolutely. I understand that rehearsals are supposed to be as real as possible, but I think Fielder went too far on this one. If it were his actual child, it'd be a different story, but it's just too much for a simulation. That got me thinking. Remember in the first episode where Fielder got the answers to the trivia night beforehand and subconsciously tried to implant the answers into Kor's mind? Yeah, I think he may be right about this one. His intentions are truly good. He doesn't want Kor to fail his confessions because he was too focused on trivia. Okay, but at the same time, Kor made it very clear to Nathan that trivia night is important to him and he was heavily opposed to cheating. And the worst part was, Fielder couldn't even confess the truth to him in the end, even after the confession went well. Yeah, I guess Kor only found out if he watched the show, huh? But in my opinion, one of the most insane things Fielder did was during episode 3, with Patrick and his grandpa's inheritance. Oh yeah, I remember watching that the entire time. I was just like, this is just so messed up. For those who don't know, Patrick's grandfather passed away and his brother is withholding his share of the inheritance because he thinks that Patrick's girlfriend is a gold digger. Fielder is helping him convince his brother. But he really takes it too far. Yeah, and so what he does is have the actual actor, playing Patrick's brother, call him to his grandpa's farm to move a generator. After that, the actor leaves, and their grandpa tells Patrick that there's gold on the farm he buried and asks him for help to find it. And just to clarify, this was all planned by Fielder.
