The Stratocaster does all the things that all those other guitars do. The other guitars are famous for, they have a certain sound, but this one will do all of them. I mean, it'll just do everything, plus it looks cool. That came from an LP called Guitar Genius, released in 1981 on the Delta independent label. One of the most influential and important guitarists in history. And he's sorely overlooked. The Fender Stratocaster. Now, by no means is this the only electric guitar that's had its place revered in history. But it is certainly, in my opinion, the most flexible. Any genre, any style, you name it, this guitar has made an impact throughout history. From western swing to post-metal grunge to modern country to stoner rock. This instrument has found its way into all of it. Eldon Shamblin actually got his custom gold colored Strat directly from the man himself, Leo Fender. Now, of course, in classic rock and blues, there are many players that are legends of the Fender Strat. Page, Beck, Clapton, Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Hank Marvin, David Gilmore, Mark Knopfler. All these guys have graced many guitar music magazine covers. What we're going to do in this program is feature a few of the lesser known masters of the Stratocaster. Well, there will be a few names that might sound familiar. But the intent in this program is hopefully to introduce you to a few great players that you may not have heard of. So, having said all that, we're going to start the program with someone you may have heard of. And he certainly is a legendary Strat player. This is Richard Thompson.
