Man, I got started a long, long time ago You know, music's kind of in the family My daddy was a musician And had a band and had things going on And then he met mama And it was an oops moment And I was born And he had to lay all that aside To kind of support us But we always had a guitar around the house And I kind of taught myself to play And took it from there, man It's a blessing and a curse at the same time Yeah, that's true And you know, if you do it full time And I'm assuming that you do, a full time musician There's nothing better than getting paid, though For doing what you love, is there? That's it, man Especially when it's a decent paycheck And you don't owe that bar tab at the end of the night That's right A decent paycheck, not a Johnny paycheck Where you have to say Take this job and shove it, right? Yeah And speaking of Johnny paycheck I've interviewed his son, John Paycheck On the radio, too And his music's a lot different than his dad's He wants to do his own thing And be his own person in the world of country music And he works for this country, too Serving this country in the military So he's an awesome dude Oh, nice, man Well, I didn't know that an offspring of Johnny Paycheck Was giving it a go in music I'm going to have to take a listen to that Yeah, absolutely John Paycheck, check him out He's fantastic, too So, yeah And, you know, it is It's a lot of hard work doing what you do, too You guys are entrepreneurs You have to design websites And merchandise And get people to work those merch tables Unless some of the artists do it themselves I've ran into that, too, here in Branson So, you know And build a brand on social media There's a lot to it Oh, man It's never ending You've got to put on a lot of hats to do this You know, if you're a DIY guy You're spreading yourself pretty doggone thin Yep, absolutely So, you've been at it a long time Your dad was a big influence on you But, musically, who did you listen to Growing up on the radio? Man, you know, you're forced to listen To whatever your folks are listening to And more than likely, you're going to like it And my folks were listening to Buck Owens and Ray Price and Merle Haggard You know, that was the kind of stuff that I grew up with That sounds good Yeah, that's all good stuff right there Buck Owens One of the co-hosts of Hee Haw Roy Clark The other gentleman Roy Clark had a theater here in Branson for years And, boy, he could sure play, couldn't he? Oh, man, yeah Yeah Unnatural Yep And then, Buck Owens kind of started The Bakerstown sound, you know It had a sound of its own So, that was really cool Bakersfield Bakersfield, yeah Buck Owens, he was a Texas boy Moved down to Bakersfield Yep So, that was good stuff I grew up watching that show, Hee Haw, actually And, you know, there's so many I go back and watch some of those old episodes And so many artists that we have today And today's country music Even the man Garth Brooks himself He kind of got his start on that show I didn't know Garth Brooks was on Hee Haw I thought that was before his time Nope, he was on it I'll be damned So, yep, that is pretty awesome right there And then, of course, they had like Roy Rogers And Dale Evans back in the day Singing on there and playing country music Yep And you had mentioned Canada Earlier in the conversation I was in upstate New York Playing my country proudly In the United States Army And that was back in Holy smoke In the late 80s And Got a chance to step over the border Every once in a while And man, the country music scene there Was just on fire Yep, boy, that hasn't changed, I don't think In the last 30, 40 years It's really, really something up there in Canada As far as, you know The artists that I interview And the country music that comes in And, by the way, thank you for your service Boy, I'll tell you what We love our veterans here in Branson Every show that I've ever gone to They take time to give them a standing ovation And have them all stand up You know, each branch of the military Wow, that's awesome, man Where were you stationed at? Well, I was I did half my Half my stand in Germany And then after those two years Moved up to Upstate New York Fort Drum It was pretty awesome Fort Drum, my brother had it made He was in Fort Carson, Colorado And drove a general around So he had a pretty good gig Well, shoot, I don't envy that, man You gotta be on your toes when you're messing around With that high brass Well, yep, that is true I think I'd rather be down in the trenches With the grunts Yep, yep, he loved it And he still drives for a living So it just kind of stuck with him Oh, well, that's in his blood, man That's awesome You're driving as we speak, I believe You're on the road, where are you headed to tonight? I am, man, I'm headed to a studio A good buddy of mine Phenomenal pedal steel player By the name of Kevin Skirla And coming up here to work on a little project Awesome Congratulations on the project that you put out That's got alright, alright, alright in it I love this song And you're kind of hanging on for dear life To a barbed wire fence In this picture that I'm looking at That is pretty cool Yeah, yep It's hanging on for dear life But it's going to be alright, baby We're going to get through it It's obviously not an electric fence Yeah, yeah You don't want to experience that again Like you did when you were a boy Exactly And they all know what I'm talking about Out there, too Yeah And Jennifer Redding's husband Took that picture, as a matter of fact Is that right? That is awesome, I love that That's very well done So, yeah, it's pretty cool Folks that haven't checked it out We'll give you the information where you can find it On your social media after we finish up this interview But, yeah, it's really cool You've got to check it out And that's another part of doing what you do You've got to be creative to draw people in And draw their attention to certain things And then the music Is the most important thing that you want to draw them to Isn't it? Yeah, yeah I've listened to a lot of these A lot of these Social media gurus Online Talking about it And, of course, your music is very, very important But there's a lot of good music Out there And somehow you've got to Grab the attention of the folks So you've got to kind of go above and beyond Just being a Great songwriter and a great musician And a great singer And performer You've got to create something That is attractive to people And I know I'm sounding like a telemarketer Dude But, unfortunately, that's the way it is It is And, you know, hopefully One song or two hit and make it big And then we're talking about you Like we're talking about Ray Price And Buck Owens and Roy Clark And all of those people That made what we now call classic country music And it still gets played on the radio And there's a You know, there's a reason we love all that stuff You go back and listen to Some of the things that you listened to as a kid And you go, yeah, that's why I liked it Because it was great Absolutely And you've got a great traditional sound In the world of country music, I love it Well, thanks, man, thanks I do venture Outside of the realm of, you know Strictly classic country But that's where the roots That's exactly where the roots are from Yep, absolutely Any rock and roll influences in your music? Oh, man We're opening up a whole big old can of worms here I knew I heard it I just wondered who Well, you know After Once you get into your To your You kind of break out of the nest A little bit You start hanging out With all that kind of stuff Well, most of those guys Were listening to rock and roll At the time It was ACDC And Judas Priest And Black Sabbath And all of these kind of things And I love it Yep, I do too And I play a lot of that It's a good mix of those kind of influences In the world of country music In fact, a couple of weeks ago Somebody told me they were really influenced By Steven Tyler from Aerosmith And I've been friends with his keyboard player Buck Johnson for years And both of them have made some great country music Over the years And you know, Steven Tyler was a little upset a few years ago Because radio wasn't really playing his country music But he's got some great stuff In the world of country music With those rock and roll sounds to it Yeah, man, I have not heard that Yeah, Red White and Blue Red White and You By Steven Tyler Go check that one out, it is fantastic I will, I'll check that out Red White and You Tell us about All Right, All Right How did this song come about? I'm thinking of the actor When he says that What's his name? Matthew McConaughey All right, all right I'll tell you what I've had a lot of people mention that to me But that was never in the thought process I had no idea And then they brought that up And I was like, man, well, no I really didn't do that But, hey, I'll take it Yeah, right But that song came about, man I had this I had this one word rolling around in my head And And sometimes all it takes is one word To get things rolling And that Oddly enough Oddly enough That word was kissless And I thought Kissless, man We can go somewhere with this That's awesome Yeah, so In the light of a moonlit night I'm witness Kissless And it just went All the way from there That is awesome It's amazing I do that all the time in the world of songwriting You know, just maybe one word Or just a really quick idea You know, comes into your head And you might wake up at three o'clock in the morning And have to jot that down and finish it later And it's just a really neat process, isn't it? That writing songs Oh, man, you better write that booger down Yeah, exactly Man, I do that all the time My wife's like, no wonder you don't sleep at night You're always kicking around in the bed, you know Because creative minds don't really sleep, do they? Very little And we certainly relish That good night's sleep Yes, absolutely Well, I tell you what We relish the idea of playing three songs from Johnny Falstaff tonight We're going to begin with All Right, All Right And if you can hang out just a little bit longer We'll come back and talk some more On the Tim Kelly Show K-I-C-R, Indie Country Radio New Country's Best on this Triple Play Thursday In the light of a moonlit night I'm witness Kissless To the sound of a midnight town And I don't hear you A million feet on the busy streets And they're hustling, rustling They all want to be near me But I'm not near you In the light of a moonlit night I'm witness Kissless To the sound of a midnight town And I don't hear you A million feet on the busy streets And they're hustling, rustling In the light of the day I see things In a different way Lonely, only Comes at night By morning I'm All Right, All Right All Right, All Right All Right, All Right All Right Shoes shuffling Down the street Detecting Reflecting Just a stain On the window pane And I don't see you In the light of a moonlit night I'm witness Kissless She can be What she wants to be But she can't be Me In the light of the day I see things In a different way Lonely, only Comes at night By morning I'm All Right, All Right All Right, All Right All Right, All Right All Right All Right All Right All Right All Right All singin' on an old dirt road Leave my parents on the back porch when I come home I still take the world apart with a country song Said you never outgrew what you grew up on No, you never outgrew what you grew up on I don't drink my beers and bargain life these days And I quit throwin' cards around every day But I'm still countin' on my first guitar Still makin' wishes on the same old star There ain't no outlinin' how I was raised I still do my best, singin' on an old dirt road Leave my parents on the back porch when I come home I still take the world apart with a country song Said you never outgrew what you grew up on No, you never outgrew what you grew up on Some things you don't ever let go Some things will never get old Still by myself on an old dirt road Leave my parents on the back porch when I get home I still take the world apart with a country song Said you never outgrew what you grew up on No, you never outgrew what you grew up on Song number two Bet you thought you got the best of me And that over you I'd never be But so far as one big knee I'm see There's plenty of fish swimmin' around And I came alone to have a few Wasn't tryin' to find nobody new But I found myself a wooden crew And they've been helpin' me out I got Josh and I got Jim I got God and I can talk to him I got Johnny on the jukebox And some ladies I don't think I like mention I got cowboys on the TV And Bartender says the next one's free I'll be fine soon, it ain't like you Were the last man in Tennessee I got Tony's on my dance and beat I got Levi's on my Barstool seat Some college boy in a gold ball suit Just tried to buy me a round Bet you thought I'd be drivin' by your house And I really do hate to let you down But baby I haven't lived so long And I am right now I got Josh and I got Jim I got God and I can talk to him I got Johnny on the jukebox And some ladies I don't think I like mention I got cowboys on the TV And Bartender says the next one's free I'll be fine soon, it ain't like you Were the last man in Tennessee And if you were It'd be a cold hard pass All my boys Yeah they all got my back I got Josh and I got Jim I got God and I can talk to him I got Johnny on the jukebox And some ladies I don't think I like mention I got cowboys on the TV And Bartender says the next one's free I'll be fine soon, it ain't like you Were the last man in Tennessee I'll be okay honey, you and me The last man in Tennessee We talked about them in the interview tonight With Amanda Kine They are comprised of two young females And one young gentleman They are track 45 I grew up listening to 45 tracks That is called Last Man in Tennessee And grew up on Last Man in Tennessee's got only one thing With that song, wrong with it There are no cowboys on the TV right now And as a Chiefs fan I just had two ladies and gentlemen But that's alright, go Chiefs We hope they beat the Bills this Sunday I got Bills to deal with too We're going to play one more from them And by the way you can check out Grew Up On from Track 45 As a video on our TV channel ICTV That stands for Indy Country Television Hit that ICTV tab at the top of the homepage Of KICR IndyCountryRadio.com The third one in the triple play for Track 45 Is called Drinkin' and Thinkin' On the Tim Kelly Show From KICR Indy Country Radio New country best on Triple Play Thursday I don't mind gettin' up my case I don't get into no whiskey fights I don't act a fool and cause no stain Yeah you know I only got one bite I keep drinkin' and thinkin' Wonderin' if you're seein' Someone new on the weekend In the bed that you're sleepin' I keep dialin' your number Don't pick up but I wanna find out If you miss me too And I start strippin' through pictures Of me standin' there with you Like I'm somethin' I don't always do Yeah I know you ain't with me But I can't make you thinkin' Baby it's gonna kill me To be drinkin' and thinkin' about you Yeah I start out with the party crowd In a circle laughin' with my friends Oh and then I see somebody dancin' It flips the switch and it starts all over again I'm back back drinkin' and thinkin' Wonderin' if you're seein' Someone new on the weekend In the bed that you're sleepin' I keep dialin' your number Don't pick up but I wanna find out If you miss me too And I start strippin' through pictures Of me standin' there with you Like I'm somethin' I don't always do Yeah I know you ain't with me But I can't make you thinkin' Baby it's gonna kill me I'll be drinkin' and thinkin' about you There's a song about the combination Of delirium and intoxication Baby I can't hold my liquor But now that I ain't holdin' you I keep drinkin' and thinkin' Wonderin' if you're seein' Someone new on the weekend In the bed that you're sleepin' I keep dialin' your number Don't pick up but I wanna find out If you miss me too And I start strippin' through pictures Of me standin' there with you Like I'm Somethin' I don't always do Yeah I know you ain't with me But I can't make you thinkin' Baby it's gonna kill me I'll be drinkin' and thinkin' about you There's a song about the combination Singin' and singin' and singin' And singin' In a world There was one man Tim Kelly And there was only one radio station Indie Country Radio That's the warmth in a lifetime sky Shinin' down on us tonight Ain't it baby Got a movin' bass to kill Get together like we did Ain't it baby The song on the radio ain't the same But it still feels so damn right When you're hidin' in my heart Stealin' my heart The way you did that first time Is kinda crazy Ain't it baby Ain't it baby Ain't it baby It's a chaos on a night like this Yeah it's just about as good as it gets Ain't it baby If you're feelin' like We can take this ride As far as we wanna take it Ain't it baby The song on the radio it's always so amazing Ain't it baby The song on the radio ain't the same But it still feels so damn right When you're hidin' in my heart Stealin' my heart The way you did that first time Was kinda crazy Ain't it baby Crazy Ain't it baby Ain't it baby Ain't it baby Ain't it baby Song number two What's a cowboy supposed to do When a cowboy ain't supposed to cry There's gotta be a beer somewhere That needs a tear When you just can't keep it all inside Everywhere I go Just ain't my kinda vibe Folks are havin' fun Man it must be nice Guess I'm the only one with a broken heart Ain't found another sad soul so far Everybody must be doin' fine Times are rough, they're suckin' party time All I wanna do is turn my radio on Reset the clock and hear a sad country song But I'm just lookin' for a place to fall apart Guess I'm the only one with a broken heart Guitar solo Nothing quite goes with a fool Sittin' on a stool Like burnin' whiskey over high I wouldn't feel like such a fool If she fooled me once But man, she fooled me twice Everywhere I go Just ain't the same as mine Neon lights and smoke Damn, I don't feel right Guess I'm the only one with a broken heart Ain't found another sad soul so far Everybody must be doin' fine Times are rough, they're suckin' party time All I wanna do is turn my radio on Reset the clock and hear a sad country song But I'm just lookin' for a place
