The speaker discusses various topics including the performance of the Carolina Panthers, the SEC East vs. West, the selection of quarterbacks in the NFL draft, upcoming college football games, and the expectations for Clemson's coach, Dabo Swinney. The speaker also mentions a podcast and conversations with friends about football. Here, yours are like, froze like as soon as you... Okay. Y'all here now. What do I need to do? Mm-hmm. Four, three, two, one. For not your home of the Charlotte Hornets, this is Thought Tackle presented by Forkast Media. Forkast Media. I'm here to talk to you about CBS, Michael, Nate Burroughs. Yeah, Nate Burroughs. He's a sister of mine. And I was like, that's crazy. That sounds about right. That sounds about right for him. And my thing is, we sitting there throwing dirt on the Panthers. Wasn't they on the box? Yeah. And you bad-mouthing them. At one point, they didn't even play. And you bad-mouthing them. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not doing that. No, I was talking about this. It's the Carolina edition of Throw Up Talk. Can we talk about the 10th and 6th time you came out here? The only thing that's relevant right now as far as how the whole two states. The whole two states. The only thing that's relevant is the Carolina. The Carolina is not the ball game. I'm not even going to make a ball game. They sure ain't. I tried to tell you. Tried to tell you. Can I talk about? Is there anything wrong with the high school? Let's talk about that. No, please. Why not? I don't know, but the regression is real. Like, the West people and the Mississippi, going into this season, the regression we have to face is really bad. And, first and last, it's running for his life on every block. Now, I'm talking about like, two thousand, three thousand, and they're bad? Come on. You gotta block somebody, somebody. They can't block nobody. And, I'll keep coming off the, I reckon they won nine games last season. You know what's crazy? Since we here, and Little John's like, forget the rundown, let's just talk about whatever I want to talk about. The SEC East, quiet as cat, is much better than the SEC West, and like, when is the last time we've said that in our lifetime? Look at it. You're talking on the SEC East side, you're talking Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky. That's better than, Alabama is the best of the best on that side. What have the rest of them done? Are they good? No. Are they doing it, are they doing it on Saturday, are they doing it on Saturdays? Cause right now, I don't, I don't really believe in any of them teams. If we're talking top to bottom, I don't believe, I believe more in the East than the West. But one of the things that's holding up the East, is South Carolina. Don't boys look bad. Well, Vandy always exists. Vandy is always here to be the Colorado of the SEC. Like, we already know what time it is. That's why it's so impressive what Deion has done. Now, let's take a look. Who used to, where did James Franklin used to coach? Well, how about that? And now he's out here at Penn State, doing his thing. Now they lost on Saturday, but he doing his thing. I got a lot to say about him in another show. I'm so happy to be here. You know, I was watching, I think I messaged y'all about this. I'm sitting here watching College Game Day, and CJ Stroud is sitting in between Pat McAfee and Lee Corso. And CJ Stroud, who? Chill. And CJ Stroud is sitting in between them, and he's giving very good football analysis, sounding very polished, and outside of, I guess, his hair, he sounds like everything I would want in a quarterback of my franchise team, in particular, in the South. He sounds like a football guy. He sounds like everything you would want to be leading your franchise. And for some reason, he didn't speak so well. But he did. But guess what? But he did. But he did speak so well. But he did speak so well. So what does he not have? Because he has all of the measurables, right? And he has all of the intangibles. Why did you not draft him? I don't understand. That's such a blunder on the case of the Carolina Panthers. If they had CJ Stroud right now, I would say they are not a winless team. I can't go too off of time, but they have a win by now. Well, here's the thing. I had to bring this up to somebody earlier today. Jim, there's a lot of you always say, let's just kind of go with Patrick Mahomes or Patrick Mahomes, instead of just going with Wood, Wood, Deshawn, Watt, or Wood, Deshawn, Watt, or Wood, Patrick, Mahomes, or Patrick, Mahomes on the NFL list. I mean, for Deshawn, for Deshawn, it just depends. It depends on what type of facilities y'all got in Chicago. Now, Patrick Mahomes is a different story. I feel like, I feel like because Patrick Mahomes played in a system that did not, that he wasn't in a winning football program, it was kind of hard to read. But at the same time, neither did Mitchell Trubisky. Why was that the selection? I think this is one of those things where I don't understand the team's, the team's thought process. Now, I don't know if Bryce Young, if you flip-flop Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, because I think that might be a part of the argument, like putting him in a better situation makes a difference. I don't know. I just think CJ Stroud is better. Like, that's my thing. I don't think this is about situation. I think one of them is just better than the other one. And that's not always the case, but that's the case this time. Does that make him a great quarterback in the NFL? Everybody's a great human being. Everybody. There are- Everybody's a great human being. But can we talk about the Benedict Tigers? So, they play at Atlanta State University on Saturday. Is that your lot? First take, the first take, ESPN first take is gonna be at Atlanta State University. Mm. There's an undefeated Benedict type. The first take is gonna be at Benedict. No, it's gonna be at the state, yeah. Do you know what take is all about? Of course I know. And you know I'm gonna go to three. Of course you know what it is about. Shannon Sharpe won't dare. Do you know what it is about? It's not exactly what you think. You know why. You know why they can't. Yeah, 100% because you're trying to say that somebody was blackening him, so he was like, he was blackened. I'm trying to remember, where did Shannon Sharpe go to college? He didn't go to Savannah. He didn't go to Savannah. That's not what I'm talking about. I mean, I think that that- You're talking about him and Terrell Owens. Yeah, I think it all factors in. But now, before we get carried away, let's not. I mean, I mean, I mean, both of them went to HBCU. Stephen A. Smith went to HBCU, too. When we come back, we're gonna talk about the Clemson Tigers losing to the Miami Hurricanes, and then we will also discuss the rest of the week in college football. This is Throw-Up Tackle. By the way, Benedict played at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. I'm trying to go through a little traffic. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, I'm trying. Yeah, yeah, get out of there. Get out of there. Hey, I'm trying to get on fire. Hey, he owned you. Don't make a, don't make, don't make, don't make me, don't make a fool out of yourself. He was followed by somebody else, though. I'm gonna just say that. Y'all think he can fight? No. You know, every time you see him win a regular season game, everybody always says he looks like he's wearing a watch. That's not the person that won. Hey, so we was talking about hot seats. You brought up Beamer. I'm just saying, if he's getting close to you and asking you to teach him a little bit louder, he's gonna be a little bit more aggressive. So you was talking about your boy, you was talking about your boy, Frank Beamer. Can we talk about Dabo yet? Is it time? Yeah, my bad. Yeah, hit me, but he's been going. But. Can you teach him a little bit more? Yeah. No, you can't be coming on before reruns of Malcolm and Eddie, man. They don't really have, wait, wait, wait. Clemson really gonna be out there playing right before episode of Dawson's Creek? I can't believe this, Dabo. Oh, I have the mightiest foe. Hey, let me ask you a question, man. Let me ask you a question. When was the last time you talked to him? Oh, we was talking all Saturday night. And by the way, I was on this podcast. Me and my man, Brandon, we have a podcast called Two Flames, and you can't see me too well. So I think, but I was on the podcast talking about how I thought Miami was gonna lose, right? And I was wrong, and you were taking it out on me. I was taking it to him, which is, y'all know Scott Wells and Brown Simpson and Robert Earl Carter. All of them were, Kevin Roberts, he was a huge star there. Kevin Roberts was a shot down thing. And he said, Mario, your hurricane's gonna pull it out? So let me ask you a question, bro. Before you went on this podcast, when was the last time you spoke to him? About Johnson Tyson. Oh, no, we talked to him the other day. We were texting guys the other day. He likes to talk trash to me. It reminds me of how many times Simpson has been in my head. I don't, unpromptly, unpromptly, he's always bringing it up, right? And that's my next point. See, these folks just fantasy to get out the past, right? It is 2023, y'all can see, nothing for me lately. Yeah, bro. It's about time to get that knock at your door. It's about to be 15. Wait, wait, we need to get out of here with the kids. So, is it 18? We're gonna talk to each other. I ain't gonna be there. It's gonna be like, the time is running out. No, but, but, but, but, hold on, but here's my thing, let's just bring it up. Because I know a lot of people can't hear me. Let's just bring it up. What's the expectation? Is somebody's expectation of a national title every year now? That's the expectation now? Because, Nick, if you look at the past few episodes, was, you were, you got a win. You have, you got a win. People said, people told me they didn't know about this. Is there an ACC national title every year now? The ACC. You at least gotta compete for the ACC. You at least gotta compete for the ACC? No. What, that's what got Tommy Bowden in that line. When Tommy Bowden wasn't at least putting a team out there that could at least contend to win the ACC, they got him out the back. We didn't say national titles before. We didn't say, did we say national titles? I said. When Toe was at the helm, they were winning and competing for ACC championships every year now. And in the national championship conversation, every year. And like, it. Did they start number nine this year in the program? It's, not to mention, not to mention, I don't remember if DJ was a four or a five star recruit, but you can't blame it on talent. They would get, here's the issue. Clemson has all the resources at their disposal to be a quality college football program. Their fan base is heavily supportive of the team, which is why they were able to turn it around. If they are investing their funds the way that they are investing them to not even compete for the ACC, oh, the coach got to go. Especially when you look down and people are like, well, what's changed? And you see Brent Venables out here with the Oklahoma Sooners turning it around. But did they lose though? Did they lose though? Did they lose though? You can almost, that's almost off the deep end. We can't talk about shoulda, coulda, wouldas, because we have said on this show several times, at least I have, that Dabble Sweeney was just the figurehead and just the face, but he wasn't doing none of the work. He's the person who shows up to the presentation for the group project and don't even know what's on the slides, he's just good at talking. He was the one who decided to run a play on his own that wasn't called, he was just a good ball to do a six man, to score the touchdown in overtime. And he said, see, I was gonna say something, because I knew that Dabble was gonna be in that line. And I was gonna say, bring Tony Ellis back from the University of Virginia. But he might have saved his job. I don't know. I just wanna say again, DJ Uchiwale was a five star prospect coming out of high school. Ted Kubnick was a five star prospect coming out of high school. The issue is not talent. I don't remember what the Sean Watson star ranking was, but I know that when he had those guys, they were winning. He still has the talent, but all of a sudden, what has changed that y'all are not winning anymore? It sounds like you don't know what you're doing as the coach, and maybe you should go. What's the standard time? I can't believe Mario said, so the Carolina Panthers, can we talk about Benedict? What the fuck? Bruh, at least try to stay on the run now, damn.
