The speaker, Joaquin Pavan, raises the question of whether one qualifies for drinking alcohol. He discusses how alcohol is heavily promoted in American Latino culture and society, but suggests that one should consider their life situation before drinking. Pavan emphasizes the importance of having healthy relationships, meeting responsibilities, and having financial and career success before indulging in alcohol. He mentions the serenity prayer from Alcoholics Anonymous and highlights the need for wisdom to know when drinking is appropriate. Pavan shares his own experience of realizing the need to stop drinking during a difficult time in his life. He encourages listeners to put the glass down and focus on improving their lives instead. Pavan concludes by stating that stopping drinking can greatly improve the quality of one's life. Good evening everyone this is Joaquin Pavan. I would like to begin this podcast with a question. Do you qualify for drinking alcohol? Probably not. Okay okay let us explore this topic but before I do this is Joaquin Pavan. We are on season one episode three. As you know I am an American Latino which is saturated by heavy drinking and reggaeton and for women it's bachata. I don't mean to generalize us in that way and in fact I am not. I am only sharing my experience and background. The Bible says it is not fitting for kings to drink strong wine referring to alcohol. Are you a king in your own right? Sure our culture and capitalistic society has normalized it. I would go as far as to say it is heavily promoted in the sports cookouts and associated with every weekend that goes by. But do you qualify to be drinking? Is your life in order? Do you have healthy relationships? Are your responsibilities being met in a punctual manner? Are your finance and retirement goals being automated? Both your career and physical health are they top notch? See I do not have all the answers here but you do. Let me share with you something else. There is a prayer in Alcohol Anonymous, A.A. the serenity prayer. Some may know it but for those that don't it's God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change but the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference. The important part here is wisdom. The wisdom to know the difference. Have you said no to any of the questions I just mentioned? You do not qualify to be drinking. Make it simple for yourself. Put the glass down and get to work. Another question that helped me realize the need to stop drinking was is a storm brewing above your head? The answer for me was hell yeah. I was going through a divorce. Because of it I haven't had a drink in the past 130 days. Now it has become a numbers game. Maybe this competitive pride is keeping me away from drinking. I don't know whatever it is. I have regulated my perspective in drinking because of it though. You need to get to that point. The Bible also says give alcohol to one that is perishing and for those who have lost all hopes. Why you may be asking? So they can forget about their misery. I do not want any of my audience to go down that way. No. Another way to look at it is to picture a cake that has frosting. The frosting represents the alcohol and not the actual substance. But here in this example the alcohol serves as the cherry on top. You are not going to make the entire cake out of frosting. What's wrong with you? But it's okay. That's why we are having this conversation. Again put the glass down and get to work. Before you know it your head will be above waters and you will think and see straight. Remember put the glass down and get to work. When you stop drinking for your own being you will increase the value of your life. I have seen it in my own life. The quality increases tremendously. Thank you for tuning in. This is your servant Joaquin Pobon and I see you guys on the next episode.
