The episode discusses the United States' involvement in World War II, starting with the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan. This prompted the US to enter the war and join the Allied Powers against the Axis powers. The US contributed extensively to the war effort, and the Manhattan Project successfully developed atomic bombs. These bombs were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, causing significant destruction and leading to Japan's surrender. The US's involvement and use of the atomic bomb were influential but also raised ethical questions. Some argue that a peaceful solution could have been pursued, but others believe the bomb was necessary to end the war. Welcome to this episode of Crónicas de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. In this chapter we're going to talk about how the United States participated in the Second World War, how important it was, and the most dangerous weapon still at these days, the atomic bomb. At first, we have the attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 7th, 1941, Japanese forces carried out a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii, a territory of the United States. This attack prompted the United States to formally enter World War II on December 8th, 1941. President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that the attack on Pearl Harbor would be a date which will live in infamy. U.S. involvement in World War II. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States joined the Allied Powers in the fight against Axis powers, which include Germany, Italy, and Japan. The country embarked on a massive mobilization of resources, both military and industrial, to contribute to the war effort in Europe and the Pacific. U.S. forces participated in major campaigns, such as the Pacific War and the North African Campaign. The atomic bomb. During World War II, the Manhattan Project was a scientific research and development program led by the United States to build the first atomic bomb. This project successfully culminated in the development of two types of atomic bombs, Dillboy and Fat Man. These bombs were used in August 1945 against Japan. Dillboy and Fat Man. Dillboy was the name given to the atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, by the B-29 Enola Gay. The explosion had a devastating impact, causing massive destruction and loss of life. Fat Man was the name of the second atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945, just days after Hiroshima. After the atomic bomb, it caused a significant destruction and led to Japan's surrender. These events marked the end of World War II in the Pacific. The U.S. involvement and the use of the atomic bomb were pivotal events that influenced the course and outcome of the war, but they also raised ethical strategies questions that remain subject of debate to this day. In this hand, maybe they could end the war with a more peaceful solution, in the other hand, that bloody solution was because probably Japanese had never waved a flag if United States tried to end it with only words. And another reason I think U.S. didn't try to end it with a pacific solution was because they wanted a revenge of Pearl Harbor. In my opinion, the atomic bomb wasn't good at all, but it was a necessary option to end it.
