Confidence is key in your job search. It can make a difference in networking, job interviews, self-promotion, and resilience. Employers appreciate confidence but also value humility and collaboration. It's important to strike the right balance. If confidence is a challenge, practice and seek feedback from mentors or a career coach. Stay positive and resilient in the face of rejections and setbacks. Remember that confidence can help you showcase your skills and make a positive impression. Have you ever heard the saying confidence is key? Well what exactly does that mean confidence is key? Today's episode is all about confidence and what does confidence have to do with your job search? Is it helpful? Is it not helpful? Do you really need to have confidence in your job search or can you just get by without it? I mean many people have jobs right? Do you really need to be super confident? In today's episode I've got five quick tips on different scenarios where confidence really can make a difference and I'll share a little story with you about my children more specifically about my daughter who just turned five but thinks she's 15 and this child exudes confidence. She is so happy to run around the house naked with a microphone in her hand and climbing up on any piece of furniture that she can while singing at the top of her lungs performing an imaginary show for her dad and I and her brother who is about to turn seven and she is so confident she is more confident on stage than she is just one-on-one with you. She is in ballet and she is about to do a performance of the Nutcracker with her with her class but this child loves it and if I could bottle it up and give it out to my friends and family that need it I absolutely would because confidence is key and it definitely can help you in your job search. So let's dive in and talk about five different scenarios where confidence really can make a difference. All right so before we dive into the nitty-gritty of confidence and how it really can make a difference in your job search, it's important to know there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Employers value confidence but they also appreciate humility and the ability to collaborate with others. You got to know how to strike the right balance. Striking the right balance is key. If if you feel like confidence is a challenge for you then consider practicing and then ask for feedback from some mentors or a career coach to help build your self-assurance. It's actually one of the things I love the most when working with my clients is helping build their confidence. Okay all right so let's talk about the job search. There's five different scenarios that I want to mention today and if you go into these situations confidently it really can make a difference. So my first scenario is networking. Confidence is essential when you're networking with professionals in your industry. Whether you are attending events like networking events or you're reaching out to a potential mentor, maybe someone that you used to know, someone that you have a distant relationship with, or maybe you're connecting with former colleagues, you know anybody that you used to work with. A confident demeanor can make a positive impression and help you build meaningful connections. If you go into networking events or networking conversations without having that confident tone in your voice or without having the courage to speak up and introduce yourself or pick up the phone and actually reach out to that mentor, a potential mentor, or if you're just scared to reach out to former colleagues, the networking piece is not going to work for you. You have to be able to display confidently yourself, your skills, your knowledge, and your ability to communicate with others. It's key just like confidence is key. Okay my second scenario where you really need to exude your confidence is the obvious one, the job interview. Did you know that confidence is often cited as one of the most important factors in a successful job interview? Employers are not only assessing your skills and qualifications but they're also assessing your ability to communicate effectively and handle the pressures of the job. If you're a confident candidate, you're more likely to be perceived as capable and self-assured. If you're perceived that way and the next candidate is perceived in the opposite way, who do you think is going to get that job offer? Definitely the more confident candidate. Okay the third scenario that I have that confidence plays such a crucial role in the job search is self-promotion. The job market is competitive especially for senior level leadership positions, for managerial positions, anything that is a skilled position that requires more advancement, more experience, more education. It is very very competitive so it's important to be able to effectively communicate your strengths and your accomplishments. Confidence allows you to showcase your skills and experiences in a way that highlights your value to those potential employers. You can actually speak about it in a confident way. You have to promote yourself when you are speaking about yourself. You are your biggest salesman and although the resume can get you through the door, the conversation is what's going to get you selected for the position. So that third one is self-promotion. Okay number four is resilience. Job searching can be challenging and it can sometimes be a very lengthy process. Confidence can help you stay resilient in the face of rejection and setbacks. Believing in your abilities and staying positive can help you bounce back from disappointments and continue to pursue more opportunities. This is the hard part for many job seekers when you're out and looking for your next role and you interview, you like the team, you like the company, you've done your research, they've done their research, you've gone to two or three or maybe even more job interviews and then you get rejected. And then this happens again and it happens again. It is very easy to want to curl up in a ball or crawl into a hole and just give up on the job search and just take the next best thing. But having confidence really does help you stay resilient when you get faced with each and every one of those rejections. Remembering that being turned away from one opportunity means that that opportunity wasn't meant for you at that moment in time and it's pushing you to something different that is the right spot for you. It is the right opportunity for you. So remaining confident really does help your resilience especially when that job search process does get lengthy and you do even if you're not getting interviews and it becomes three months and then four months and then five months and you still haven't landed a role that you're really interested in. So stay resilient, stay confident. It will happen. It's a matter of timing and being in the right spot, being in that right place, applying for that right position that lines up perfectly for you. Okay and then my final fifth scenario where confidence can make a difference when it comes to your job search and this one is really important because this one hits your your your wallet, your pocketbook. It's negotiation. Confidence is crucial when it comes to salary negotiations and discussing the job offer. Being assertive and confident in these discussions can contribute to securing a better compensation package. Remembering though there is a difference between confidence and arrogance. So being confident, knowing what you bring to the table, knowing fair market value for the position, knowing the budget that maybe was posted, maybe it came out in the conversation during the interview, knowing all of those things and knowing what your needs are, your personal needs are, your personal budgetary family needs are, can help to drive your confidence, help to increase your confidence when it comes to making those salary negotiations. Also knowing the total compensation package. This is a conversation that could be full of itself in and of itself because there's so much to salary negotiations. Maybe I'll do an episode you know specifically dedicated to salary negotiations but just know that each of these five different scenarios whether it's networking, whether it's the job interview, self-promotion, remaining resilient and then in that negotiation phase you know all of those are different phases of your your job search. If you can have confidence in each of those phases you'll get through the process quicker, you'll get through it easier and it won't feel like such a drag to have to go through the job search process. Keep going, keep hustling. If you need that extra help, if you need that support, if you feel like you know what you're just not getting anywhere, it's just not working for you, you've been job searching, you feel like you've done everything correctly and you just need some extra help, let me know.
