Gender impacts everyday life, particularly regarding drink spiking. Women have to be cautious about their drinks and where they leave them, as spiking typically happens to them. There have been numerous reports of spiking in Nottingham, leading to protests and safety measures. The fear of being spiked affects women's experiences, and studies show that women are terrified of being assaulted. Men, on the other hand, may see it as a fun activity. The information highlights how gender affects women's lives on a daily basis. Hi and welcome to my podcast in today's session We're going to be discussing how gender impacts everyday life and specifically looking at how drink spiking impacts a woman's life Social constructionists believe that gender is interactional and that behavior is seen as either male or female So therefore we act this out and Judith Butler specializes at looking into this However, drink spiking can be described as playing alcohol drugs into someone's drink without their knowledge or permission Drink spiking is something that typically happens to girls in pubs, bars, clubs. It can happen anywhere to anyone Women cannot enjoy themselves in clubs anymore They have to be cautious about where they leave their drink or who with. They have to look the size of their drinks being spiked They use covers to prevent this Spiking typically happens to women Due to cases of assault. There were over 146 reports of needle spiking in Nottingham in 2021 There were an event called Girls' Night In to protest this and help create safety measures in clubs so women felt safe Personally to me it ruined my freshers week. I didn't feel safe going out So I never truly got that freshers week experience during my time at university The Guardian reported that two people had been arrested by the police on suspicion of conspiracy to administer poison, these being 18 and 19 year old boys The campaign to Girls' Night In Wanted to boycott local bars and nightclubs to prevent this and needle spiking and drink spiking from happening Wanting lids for drinks and drug misuse training for staff The Guardian also reported that another man had been arrested due to a scratching sensation a woman felt on a night out Reports from the Guardian and the police typically recorded that spiking happened in Nottingham prison as well as other clubs like Stealth Where the girls had to go to hospital and get checked out to the stabbing sensation they felt in their leg Then the university also conducted a study on spiking Interviewee 1 and 3 Did not seek any kind of professional help. They went home and dealt with the effects there whereas interviewee 2 Had to get treated for the possible ingestion of the liquid exudate Another study conductor called embodying uncertainty and understanding the heightened risk such in a drink spiking Showed that there is a heightened contrast between knowing and associating Drink spiking and assault and the lack of evidence with it. It wasn't seen as a widespread threat. However University students had first-hand or second-hand experiences with the matter Saying that they used to cover their drink with their hand Or cover it in any way they could Hoping they wouldn't get spiked even taking their drink with them to the bathroom. It created an on-campus fear Another study looked at 35 young women's accounts of drink spiking Showing that women were terrified of being spiked and sexually assaulted due to this Making that spiking has a gendered lens In another study called Tristadera Unaware, the outcomes of drugging. It found that drugging Provided both those who drugged someone a newer drugger was often due to wanting to assault women There were gender differences as men were more likely to see it as a fun ideal activity. Whereas women were terrified of the consequence The study called contextualizing the drink spiking narrative that everyone knows Once again college students were worried about being spiked and this leading to assault and that they'd said I've I had a personal experience with it or Knew someone who had however within this study. It could take social constructionism as they believe It is a myth Another study called anything could happen looked at the probable fear that women had during these interviews This interview conducted was on the north of England and how women didn't feel safe in their nightclubs I am an ambassador for a charity called to help spiking That works to make spiking illegal and a criminal offense as well as spreading awareness on how to stay safe on nights out Through their creation of stop tops, which is a cover for drinks as well as Helping victims come forward and share their story overall, I believe this information shows that women's lives are impacted daily due to the fear of being spiked a University woman cannot get the full experience That men can on the night out as they have to worry about their safety through drinks and being spiked through needles Gender does in fact impact one's life daily
