So we got such a big response from the three-step recipe episode last week about how to achieve the goals that it is that you have in your life and quick recap it was what do you want most important part why do you want it and then how to implement it what to do next and we got such a big response from that we really felt there's some key elements that that's a macro thing right it's a big picture but then what how do you implement to get to that big picture there's going to be daily choices daily decisions there's gonna be a lot that goes into getting the goals that you want out of your life and it really just dawned on us that Sean's planner this thing it's not doesn't sound like the most technical thing to talk about but it is the linchpin of why Sean is able to succeed the way he does and has all the things that he has and is able to live life on his terms time freedom financial freedom you could almost test it to the planner and how it could speed up that process so and Sean if you could give us a little insight into what life was like before the planner what it was like after you used it and we could probably start with like where you first kind of found it and how you got there yeah so it all started with the miracle morning by Hal Elrod fantastic book it really changed the game for me several years ago and I was always looking for a morning routine I was looking to do the things that successful business owners and entrepreneurs did to basically maximize their day so I went on this journey and I got curious and started doing this research and I ran across miracle morning well in miracle morning they have this acronym it's by the name of our savers right which is scribe affirmations visualization exercise and reading so each of these basically break down to what successful individuals do over the years that have been studied as far as business owners and entrepreneurs so I started implementing that in my own life it wasn't perfect at start but one of the things that were in there was scribing which was basically just journaling writing down how you feel your feelings your thoughts your emotions I didn't really understand that from from the start but I just did it anyway because I know I needed to do it you know and I didn't really know what I was doing however this led me on this journey of you know I started because at that point I was I was working out I was reading I was listening to podcasts and stuff like that I was just doing more of it because I saw it started seeing progress right which is part of the key ingredient that we talked about on the last episode which is super powerful and so once I started writing I was like you know what I'll just start with writing down my goals I'll just start writing down what I what I know and it could just be one thing that that I want right lose weight or run exercise five days a week instead of three days a week so I just started writing down just simple stuff and so over time right I was putting in the reps I was doing the work behind the scenes and it could have been I could have easily have stopped this but I started seeing just a little bit of progress in in writing these things down and what it did for me was inscribing and journaling was that it was allowing me to be intentional it was allowing me to keep it in front of my mind right and the way I look at this is like billboards why do billboards still work to this day and they've been out for decades and hundreds of years is because they work they're in front of people and so that's the way I look at it like this planner this journal this scribing this piece of paper is in front of me every single day if it's not in front of you if this billboard is not in front of you then you're going to neglect it you're gonna put it down to the wayside and you're going to forget about it because we're human beings right we focus goes energy flows so you're focusing on other things that that may need your attention so for me I didn't enjoy it scribing but because I had it in front of me and because I was able to write things down it was in front of me every single day so we're talking about you'll see those funny pictures January the gyms are absolutely packed the means and then by February they're empty everybody signed up in January they had these big goals they had probably following some kind of program to start with but if that thing is deep in your email list or tucked away in some app that you're just not used to touching or you're just not seeing it in front of you I don't like that if it's not in front of me there's a good chance I'm gonna forget and that's one thing I've noticed like you carry this thing a mastermind group you always have it on you and it's always there and I always see you have it so it's like almost you're almost prompting me just to even be like oh there's Sean's to-do list or his daily planner and I'm so I'm more aware of yours than I have mine yeah so over time I was just put one foot in front of the other I was scribing I was writing down like oh I'm seeing progress in this and then I'm a big believer in like everything happens for a reason and in spirit and Lord works in mysterious ways and God wanted really wanted me to do more of this right because of the progress and and now I'm a big believer in like there's a reason I'm sharing this on the podcast right is because I think it's made such a big impact on my own life and I'm super excited as you can tell that I know it can make an impact on your life you just have to stick with it so that then this led me to a book called the everyday hero manifesto by Robin Sharma and in this book he talks about the weekly design well he has this template so I downloaded this template and I was like because this is aligned with the life that I want to live which is the weekly design I want to design the life that I want to live and so I just went down the rabbit hole on this yeah and before this the weekly planner and before I got to scribing and writing down in this weekly planner that will get more into detail here shortly I was just all over the place before then I was just existing at that place like all my all my kind of like what you said my ideas thoughts everything was up in my head I never wrote anything down well if it's all up in your head right you then you're not what are you not allowing to free up and that that's kind of how I looked at it like man there's so much creativity so many things that that I would rather store in my head right as far as like memories and experiences and so that's when I started getting all this stuff out on paper and man it's just been a beautiful thing and that was you know that's as far as goals and what I want my week to look like what I want my quarter to look like my year to look like because if it's stored up in my mind then what I'm then what am I pulling away from that I should be really focusing on well which is what how what's going to get you there right who or who do I need to become to get to these goals that's what I should be spending my time energy and effort on not what's my goal again or what's my dream what's that thought what's that idea instead it's on paper achieving your goals it's all tied together so powerful and if you only have one not gonna happen you only have the other last week it was what is the macro the big goal because the things you will walk over glass for has to be that important when it comes to your why or else when it's difficult it just won't follow through that's right everybody knows that's true what I'm saying right now because it's just it's just a universal love it's not important enough you won't do the difficult thing because it wouldn't be worth it the return on investment of energy and effort or finances to get that value back is not there so you have to have a very important why once you have that okay now what are the steps to do this right and so that's why we're talking about the planner today but without that why it's very easy for you to be almost gonna plan a week out two weeks in two weeks and I've got things going on I missed it this week Oh men will hold six weeks later the empty June that's the empty planner you have to find your day up so it all comes back to last week that's sort of the why why why are you doing and what is so important enough for you to want to do this that's what Sean is so good at so clear I'm gonna jump over 13 years now and just this morning I always ask him you know so what is your thought process what's your emotional thing and he said it almost frustratingly so he's quite right is because I know what my lines are and I feel like I'm not the smartest guy in the world but you know I'm not I'm not totally sick and I'm still figuring out that this why is so important and the thing about the things I have accomplished you might end up writing down there was a very powerful internal why and that's why I was able to achieve those things but man if I was better in doing it what you do and just constantly writing it down getting really clear on what it is that is not clear I'd have those things so much faster what guarantee it almost do exactly it's like breaking it down what is it it's the weekly design planner why do you want to do it Sean well because I know what happens if I don't it's out of mind out of sight I neglect everything that I put by my side and in this weekly planner that we're going to share with you and we're going to have this right in our shared notes and additional resources as far as a template that you can use in your own self it's so it's just it's so intentional and you're able to in for me the why is it's able to allow me to jot down my thoughts feelings my goals and have everything out in front of me I have everything from what I want my week to look like my professional truly expectations and we'll get into more of that here in a second and it's also got my my vision my meaningful mission it's all spelled out in front of me because if I don't have it written down then it's just to me it's just a it's a wish or a hope you know it's just a dream it in for this it comes to reality because I've written it down and it's in front of me every single day have you written it down no I don't need to well if you were to pick which one do you think is taking you more seriously it's a no-brainer you'd have to pick you you have to so it's just that important like how much again what is your why you know why I think a lot of people don't and I can speak to myself it's the fear of failure the fear of writing it down when I was real that thing that's so such a big thing that I'm just gonna not stare it down you know look away like well talk about like there's a dragon behind writing it down and but I think once you write it down you just realize that the dragon doesn't exist like I know for me many times in medical sales there's been a number of tough customers that I've had to turn into clients and it's taken me 18 months three years to close a million big deals and numerous times I'd get so frustrated so lost with what to do next I would be forced to bring out my notebook and I start writing down you and I'd be so mad I thought why are you not doing what you need to do here well you and I write it down the reason I'm not doing this is because pause I'm afraid of X well you and is that true is that actually is that ever happened before and I'm writing all this down and and by the time I'm finished out of the bottom of the page it's like I'm normally not finished I'm normally walking towards to go to the customer and go close that deal and that's the power of writing it down but I think to speak back to that this is the fear of what if this doesn't happen or if I get clear on it now I'm held accountable if I feel it that it's another thing I feel that now really won't ever have the even opportunity then I think like to play with the thought that I could have it someday and that's good enough for people but it's never satisfaction you don't think like that man you think one one and a half steps yep I think 20 steps ahead you think one and a half yeah and it's a really superpower because you're not you're not thinking about the fear you're just thinking what I need to do next yeah and do it yeah and that's exactly what the planner is for me it's just a tool it's just a resource it's it's in front of me so it allows me because I have my goal right one year three year five year and where I want to become and it's just a tool I just look at as a stepping stone and to where I want to go and it just keeps keeps it in front of me so I'm curious with you like it's in our listeners an audience that may be feeling the same way so you said like fear of writing it down and so that comes with like your goals but also to like one of the cool things about the weekly planner that we're talking about is it also allows you to put down like what you're grateful for and then also to because it's hard to be angry and disappointed and fearful when you're grateful abundance mindset I can't express that enough you're not seeing this because you can't see it right now but we're going to have examples you're going to be able to download it we'll probably put one out there on social media so you can get a glimpse of it but yeah Sean has this there's so much to it so keep going because that's great the gratitude that you write down you write down a lot of things not just your hour by hour oh I need to do this and this this is a thing of art almost so continue with that the gratitude portion yeah so it's kind of like universal because for me before I was always goal oriented so it was always just goal, goal, goal but let's be completely transparent it's just not sustainable right if you don't have what Ewan was talking about and what we talked about in the last episode the why behind it and so with the goals it also comes with along with what do you want your week to look like because if you have a on a scale of 1 to 10 and you're having a 1 this week sucks I had a horrible week all areas of life are below baseline like it's not a world class life or if you're at a 10 where you're like world class life, everything's clicking all areas of life, I'm feeling good, looking good all of the above right and I always thought typically for me I'm always fine like last week it had it's ups and downs I would have gave it a 7 so in this weekly planner that I do it allows me to look at these different pieces of the puzzle and so you've got your goals I've got my mantra which is a personal mantra it's like basically when I'm feeling bad I'm able to look at it in front of me and say this thing out loud so I can just kind of boost up my morale boost up my feeling and then below that in the morning times the first thing I always do is gratitude well the only reason I write this down is because it's in front of me write down what you're grateful for to disappoint it and be grateful right you can't be both for me it's like what am I grateful for I constantly have it in front of me and so it's that reminder and at the very top I have three things that I look forward to in my personal life like a date night with my wife on Wednesdays the Alpha Run Club which is our run club on Saturdays these are things that I look forward to that really help take that where I used to be a 3 or 4 on my weekly on how I showed up as far as the existing rat race with my week and now it's got up to a 7 or 8 because I have things to look forward to I have things that I'm grateful for I have goals that I'm striving towards and all this stuff is aligning and it's creating a world class week for me which we all know turns into a world class month world class quarter and a world class awesome year say it one more time the day to the week to the month to the year to your whole life that's just what I heard I think I was telling you and my friends my inner circle know this as well I started implementing this probably about 18 months ago and when I started implementing this and really putting this into practice because that's the biggest thing is putting this into practice because you're not going to be perfect I wasn't perfect at it and you have your why and you have your how and you follow these steps it's just putting in the reps and getting practice and so for me I've noticed all areas of my life the baseline improved dramatically and the baseline is also known as on a scale of 1 to 10 what would you classify your week this week you're listening to this on a Thursday so how has your week been this week on a scale of 1 to 10 1 being super poor it's been awful your finances are great your relationships are great your marriage, your spirituality, your personal growth where are you it's hard to be a 10 but that is the journey of life is to get to that 10 you'll never be at that destination but that's the beautiful thing about it is living a world class life I'm curious you said you were having a 7 it might be all the way up to 15 what were some of the things that put you on the spot so people can associate when they're doing their planner they're having a bad week what does that look like to you last week for example is there one or two things that you could share that you were able to lean on your planner for so last week, midweek I would have gave if you would have asked me on a Wednesday within that day I would have probably been a solid 3 or 4 we were at a date night Texas Roadhouse, Conroe having a conversation with my wife she's tired, I'm tired it's 5 o'clock in the afternoon we don't want to be there but we do it anyways that's part of it you got to show up for each other you don't neglect you got to do the date night we were there having a conversation one of our businesses and so that evening it was just like normally in the past I would have been fighting it and just existing for the next day, two, three days and it would have literally taken like I said, a four world class week and I would have probably ended up at a one at the end of the week but because I was able to get up that next morning I knew mentally, hey today's a new day and I did my miracle morning like I mentioned earlier and I was able to write down what I was grateful for what am I grateful for? well I'm grateful for the two people in my office I'm grateful that me and my wife were able to pray about it I'm grateful that my wife left me a note this morning because of our conversation yesterday so I wrote these things down and then automatically in spirit my mind started shifting towards positivity and optimism and then I looked up at the top and was like, oh by the way I have a massage coming up oh and the mastermind group is coming on tomorrow so I'm looking at these things and automatically my three or four turns into a freaking seven or eight and what did I share at the mastermind group that morning on Friday? I went from a transition of a three or four that week to a seven to eight towards the end of the week because of how I was able to turn it around and because of these things in front of me on the planner If you didn't have that written down think about the version of Sean that didn't all you would think about all those things are still true in the back of your mind somewhere but you're overwhelmed over what is right in front of you you've got four employees out and you don't remember the gratitude in tough moments but when it's right in front of you you're forced to get that emotion back when you wrote it down those are things that you love and you get that love right back into your life and it just dominates the difficult times because love always wins out that's so cool you've convinced me truly, Sean has been doing this for a long time I don't want to write it down I don't like that, don't tell me what to do I don't, well a budget sounds like a terrible thing to do because you're restricted with your money you don't get to spend it like you want but we all know that's false when you have a budget, a budget actually frees you up with your finances, allows you to have more money because you've budgeted so it doesn't feel good up front and I've realized this, he's conformed me that this is a budget and budgets are your best friend and you want to live the life that you want because you are in control of the outcomes and yeah, it's just a beautiful thing so I hope the audience got what Sean was talking about today I know I have it's taken me a long time to be convinced so just don't be hard headed or a dummy like me and just do this and this will be in the show notes once again download it and change your life I'm going to change mine by doing this so thanks Sean absolutely and 2024 is right around the corner if you're listening to this, do yourself a favor do your family a favor, do your community a favor and I promise you, I can guarantee you that if you put in the reps and you put in the work behind the scenes if you're having trouble with this, reach out reach out to us you can find us on our social media platforms if you have questions we're always here for you, we can point you in the right directions but we're here for you, we believe in you I know, beautiful Sean I love you
