Caroline Robinson, a fashion merchandising major at the University of South Carolina, discusses her interest in fashion and her career goals. She chose fashion merchandising because she loves how it allows people to express themselves. Caroline gained fashion knowledge through jobs and internships, including becoming a fashion buyer for a salon. After graduating, she wants to find an internship with a prestigious company and eventually open her own store. Her advice for finding personal style is to be true to yourself and not conform to societal expectations. Hello, my name is Alexa Cassidy. I'm here today with Caroline Robinson, a fashion merchandising major at the University of South Carolina. I brought her here today to talk about her interest in fashion and her upcoming career in the fashion world. Caroline, do I have your permission to record you? Yes, you do. So the first question I have is, why did you choose fashion merchandising as a career path? I chose fashion merchandising as a career path because I love how fashion is used as a way to express yourself and I wanted to be a part of the way that others can express themselves too. That's awesome. My next question is, so what are some of the experiences you've had, like jobs or internships that have contributed to the fashion knowledge you have now? I worked for a salon and I was a receptionist. Then from there, they started to recognize the compliments I would get about my outfits from the clientele. So they thought it was a good idea to ask me to become a fashion buyer for their retail store as well. So from there, I became a fashion buyer and I really enjoyed it and that's something that I've definitely used in my career path. So what is your next step in your upcoming career after you graduate? Because I enjoyed becoming a fashion buyer so much, I'd love to do something like that. The first step would be to find an internship for a really prestigious company and learn a lot of things from them. Then from there, if I have enough information I need, I'd love to open my own store and become my own boss and run the business side of it as well. That's so amazing. So one last question, if you could give one piece of advice to someone trying to come into their own style or upgrade their style, what would it be? I think my advice would be that you need to have your own style, and that's the biggest thing that's important is that you shouldn't conform to what society needs or what they want. You should do what needs to express you and your style. That's awesome. Well, thank you so much for talking with me today. I wish you the best in your upcoming career.
