In 2004, a shipwreck from the 4th century BC was discovered during surveys in the Chios Strait off the island of Chios. The ship was similar to modern cargo ships. The island of Chios is located on the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea. Right off the island in the summer of 2004, archaeological and geophysical surveys were surveying the Chios Strait on the eastern side of the island. This is where the surveyors found the remains of a shipwreck from the 4th century BC. The ship found can be compared to an ancient version of our modern-day cargo ships.
