Oh, thank you Jesus This is for a higher cause and higher purpose But if we know why we're doing it that we can last even though we get weak in our bodies So the definition the definition of fasting is the willful abstaining from natural pleasures for a spiritual purpose The willful abstaining of things that are pleasurable doughnuts with lots of chocolate thick Pleasurable Some people's crispy deep golden fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy is pleasurable Sitting in front of Netflix munching on a beef dog and mustard is pleasurable It is the willful abstaining from natural Pleasures for spiritual purpose the definition of fasting fasting is a personal commitment to renounce the natural Invoke the spiritual We need Supernatural Intervention and fasting Opens up our capacity to believe God God Has all that we need What if God was like Niagara Falls? and We had a two-inch pipe For all of that water to go through We won't get the full effect of the power of Niagara Falls So the larger the pipe The bigger the capacity for water to flow When we are so full of earthly pleasures things that Or that feel good it shrinks our spiritual pipe For God to move through us Because it tells us in Genesis that he gave us dominion. We are sovereign on this earth, but our Sovereignty can limit the power of God flowing through us. So when we fast and we commit to the fast are Commit to the fast are we we naturally Involve more spiritual power to flow through us the serious We are the fast the greater the power that flows through us fasting is a deep it is the dedication To a period to devote yourself to spiritual priority of prayer without food So if you're the person that loves to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and make those eggs And then you drink that coffee as you know, the nice breeze coming in from outside you take that time To pray you take that time to dedicate and to hear God So here's some requirements of fasting Fasting is Okay Not just missing a meal We kind of laughed last time, you know talked about I'm fasting I'm looking at the clock and lining up my food When I'm in the you know, well, I got 10 minutes call. Hey guys, I got 10 minutes What you gonna eat when you get through fasting? No fasting is not just skipping a meal fasting is Not dieting. So we have that Side effect, but that's not why we fast I'm grateful. I lost a few inches around my waist because my pants I had to To the to the dry cleaners to take out the waist. I didn't take out enough and I tell you I wear big shirts so much It is not pretty but that is not why we fast Fasting demands replacing The reading of the word and prayer with food So we're going to replace that time with food and we spend at least eight hours some people a day eating thinking about what you want to eat and then going to the store to buy if you don't have it and then preparing it and Then sitting down to eat it and then cleaning the kitchen. That's a lot of time that you can dedicate to God Okay, it's dedicating time spent in meditation Prayer is not always talking Prayer is also meditating Pray for 15 minutes and meditate for 45 because God may have something that he wants to say You know, I have a brother that used to call when I was in the army, you know You buy them phone cards that they only last for a couple of minutes And I'll call him because it's have a few minutes to talk Yeah, brother. Now. I called him now on my phone card and he started talking. He talked so long I just held the phone and He hung up when he got through. I'm like Hello After a couple of times I stopped calling him. I can't get a word in Dedicating time spent in meditation. Let's let God say something So what if how do we know what we heard is true? Well, God is not going to tell you something that's not found in his word He is not gonna The more we read the Bible we see God's character and then it's reinforced in different places So if you hear something that's outside of God's character, you know where it's coming from You Dedicating time spent in the word. So we're going to meditate. So what are the effects of fasting? Fasting does not change God. I may be able to get through this fasting brings spiritual discipline That I can't help it Comes under it was a man. You're different. It's more than that. You just came to the Lord. It was wonderful Fasting aids physical health there are people in church High blood pressure hypertension Ulcers when you stop, you know, naturally when you stop eating, but the flesh said man, you better eat them cookies People have made New Year's resolutions But they're gonna do this and they do that, but they don't have the willpower to do it So they buy medications they go to therapists You know what? they can go ahead and put $5,000 an offer right here and just fast and they'd be fine because that's what they that's how much money they gonna spend on therapy for that year therapy and medication It helps you lose weight there it is. Oh See see see you have a whole new wardrobe waiting for you on that side of the closet All the clothes that you wore before you gain weight now, you're wearing all the clothes on this side of the closet So when you lose weight, you have a whole new wardrobe I Got pants in my closet Rick that I refuse to throw away, but then I'm coming Fasting saves you money when people on it. We were on a 30-day fast You calculate how much money you spend on groceries eating out And you bring that money and you give it to the poor you give it away Bring it to the church. I'm gonna commit to because he's fasting is free will He's not saying thou shalt fast 20 days No, if you say I'm fasting for two days one day one day a week 12 hours Commit to it Drink plenty of water at room temperature. Now. This is if you're going on extended fast. I've done extended fast after the third day I don't drink cold water. It tears you up because your body was it was 80 something Fahrenheit 98.6 98.6 right is the cold water in it you bring your body in the shock your body is repairing itself So you drink plenty of water room temperature to flush out the toxins you may get pimples you may get you know different places Because those toxins because you know, the skin is the largest organ. So these are the physical things that are happening You're not dying. It's not the devil drink herbal teas cranberry juice raw apple cider to cleanse on an extended fast you want to stay away from Grape juice, I'm not grape juice, but Grapefruit juice in orange juice is very acidic You will be acidic already because your stomach is used to food it is gastric Gases that build up in your stomach then you drink some orange juice. You're going to inflame it So so you're on extended fast your stomach is growling It's burning the walls of the gunk and all the debris that's kicked up in your system And then you drink water to flush it out. Okay, it puts out this drink water Um when gastric juices acids Reaction in the stomach drink plenty of water right away Have it set aside now some people say drink eight glasses of water, you know I say increase your water capacity when you're fasting Alright drink warm or hot fluids before bed and in the morning All right No juice With acid like orange juice, like I said pineapple juice tomato juice grapefruit juice. You want to stay away from that? Okay The longer you fast the better care needs to be taken when you break the fast, okay warm soup Vegetables are okay because your stomach is very sensitive It's it's back to can't handle them hard beans and french fries. It's just Soup you're working your way back and there are certain foods that you won't even desire anymore because an Extended fast has got those toxins out of your body. So you don't even crave green leafy vegetables are okay food is okay No bread No carbs We know that say that Jesus fasted for 40 days, right? Do you think G you think Satan really cared about his nutrition? Why did he say turn these stones to bread? How can he didn't say turn these stones to palm fruit turn these stones to bananas turn these stones to vegetables? Because bread is yeast and it expands After I don't recommend a 40-day fast No food I Don't everybody that fasted 40 days left here as far as I know There was a woman in dr. Monroe's ministry She ate bread after An extended extended fast and she died She ate bread it twisted in her intestines and it killed her Fasting without knowledge Satan was trying to kill Jesus eat some bread after that fast So no carbs All right. So so that is Fasting why we do it the biblical reasons for it the physical benefits of it the spiritual benefits of it and It will be a regular part of this ministry and we are fasting Until the 28th of February hold out. It was right in the middle of a dry 72 hour fast and I did not know what fast it was. I knew what it was I had never did it in my life, but I had the support of the congregation So that I kind of moved with that momentum and I was baptized with the Holy Spirit on a Friday night And I and I continued to fast Worked it was hot that summer. It was high. It gets like, you know, I get hot here gets like that in Stockton and I and I was hammered the Word of God. I was in church four days a week My pastor said if you stay here for one year, you'll learn more than you would in Bible College And we was in church Covered the water fountain the people the community thought we were a cult And my mother and father didn't understand that and the elders of the Baptist Church They got together to kidnap me to bring to be brainwashed me They were upset and all I did was found a renewed Serious relationship with God at 18 years old. You're crazy You supposed to be out there chasing girls and drinking beer and smoking weed. I was in the fast man. I was in it and Then we turn around and go to church on Friday or Monday And then car rehearsal and stuff or usher meeting on Tuesday and then Wednesday Bible study Monday was relaxed and he sat down in the chair and we read line by line by line by line by line and then Wednesday was more formal like a church service And always praying at the altar always the altar call lasted almost as long as the church service did And then we have Friday night live because people were used to run in the streets There was a hardcore people in that church and they they get busy on it They they can do whatever they want to do it with big on party on Friday Saturday and Sunday So we was in church on Friday Friday night live When everybody in that time and we're want the same we want to testify testimony and we went in Saturday we came to clean up Sunday.
