The Augsburg Confession

Philipp MelanchthonPhilipp Melanchthon

The Augsburg Confession, written by Philipp Melanchthon, is a significant document in the history of the Lutheran Church. It was originally created to be read publicly at the Diet of Augsburg in 1530. This confession was a response from the German princes to Emperor Charles V's summons. Interestingly, two copies were presented on the same day, one in German and the other in Latin. The version we have today is a combination of these two texts and was prepared for the Concordia Triglotta in 1921. This introduction was provided by Jonathan Lange.
