The book of Mere Christianity states that when Christians behave badly or fail to behave well, it makes Christianity seem unbelievable to others. This is because Christians are supposed to be the light of the world and set a good example for others. If Christians engage in immoral behavior, it tarnishes the reputation of Christianity.
