The devotion is about recognizing our powerlessness to change on our own and relying on God's strength. The scripture from Isaiah reminds us that God gives power to the weak. We should depend on God's power, not our own. We can't do it alone, but we don't have to. We should ask ourselves when we feel weak and powerless and how we can remind ourselves to rely on God. Finally, we should ask God for help and trust in His power and strength. The title of today's devotion is God Strengthens Me. Today's scripture is from the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verse 29. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. One of the key principles in taking your life back is to recognize how powerless you are on your own to change, but that's just the first step. The next is to recognize where the power you need will come from. Isaiah says it comes from God himself and Zechariah echoes this idea in chapter 4 verse 6. It is not by force nor by strength but by my spirit says the Lord. What a relief. Change is based not on our ability but on God's power and as Isaiah reminds us we are talking about the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. That's from the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verse 28. That's who is waiting to give us power and strength. So as we work to understanding our past and its effect on our present, we must do so in complete dependence on God. By ourselves we can't do it, but we never have to do it by ourselves. So ask yourself this question one. What are some specific situations in which you feel weak and powerless to change? And number two, what can you do to remind yourself to depend on God's power and strength, not your own? Ask God. God, it is so easy and so futile for me to try to change on my own. Help me to remember that you are my power and my strength. Give me the courage to trust in you.
