In this podcast episode, Nicolás Jaramillo gives a short recap of the NFL, NBA, and college football seasons. He discusses the playoffs, including the upset in the SEC championship game. He also talks about the college football rankings and predicts the outcomes of upcoming bowl games. Nicolás briefly mentions the NFL playoff picture and the MLS Cup Final, where LAFC lost to Columbus. Welcome to Nico Sports Insights Season 2 Episode 2 and here with you to get your sports news and your sports fix is Nicolás Jaramillo. Well, welcome to the podcast. Today we'll be going over a short recap of the NFL season, short recap of the NBA season, short recap of the college football season, and then we'll be talking about bowls, things discussing why Florida State definitely did not deserve to make the college football playoff. That'll be, you'll understand that more after I talk about college football. And besides that, I'm sorry for the months of delay. We were waiting for the new equipment. As you can see, the mic might be a little better. So welcome back. I'm glad to be recording here and let's get started. So the NFL season, short recap, week one, fourth play of his jet career, Aaron Rodgers tore his ACL, Nick Chubb and J.K. Dobbins tore their ACLs, Jack Prescott has been a monster this season. The Jets are somehow decent, even without Aaron Rodgers. The Browns aren't going to make the playoffs, even though they have Joe Flacco, their fourth string, as their starter. Don't ask how that's going to happen, but it did happen. And Patrick Mahomes is going to play his first ever away playoff game, guaranteed, so woohoo. Patrick Mahomes is not the favorite anymore, yeah. For all you Chiefs fans out there, you're going down, you're going down. So, season, by the way, last season, congrats to the Nuggets, good win in the chip, good chip. This year, the Pistons tied the record for the most losses in a row, 28, they set the single season record and tied the record for most in a row, going over 2014-15, 2015-16, Sixers. The streak ended at 28 today, actually, against the Raptors. The Celtics are the best team in the league, Joel Embiid is averaging 35 points a game, shy Gilgis Alexander, yes, the OKC dude, is seriously in the MVP contention, Chet Holmgren, who didn't play a single minute, single second, he played even less than Del Curry's, Steph Curry's dad, so that says a lot about him, he, everybody said Victor Romanyama, the seventh and fourth French freak, who had number one overall, was a 100% rookie of the year, but I think Chet Holmgren, given that last year, he did not play a single second, like Del Curry played 3.7 seconds in his entire career, but whatever, that's besides the point, Chet Holmgren did not play a single millisecond, so therefore, that counts that he did not play, so, technically this is his rookie year, therefore he is in contention for the rookie of the year, and he's definitely in contention, he set, I think he tied the record for blocks in a game, against, I think, I don't know what team it was, he had 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 blocks, so, yeah, that was the recap, college football, USC was failure, 8-5, after being Louisville in the bowl, sadly, sorry dad, but, yeah, Florida State were not defeated until today, they lost, well, they were undefeated conference champions, and they did not make the playoffs, don't ask me why, but, I think they met their match, because, in the SEC championship, it was Alabama vs. Georgia, Alabama pulled off the upset 27-24, meaning Georgia's 29 game win streak was snapped, which was kind of disappointing, sorry, all you Georgia fans, you're not going to win it again, sorry, but, it was, today, it was, like last year's national championship, 65-7, Georgia, that was an embarrassment to college football, like my essay, about college football's being corrupted, but, that's besides the point. Wait, when is your essay coming out? I would say in the next two weeks. Yeah, where are you going to publish it, are you going to send it to Sports Illustrated? Probably, yeah, well, Florida State, and all Florida State men were furious, furious that they got, they did not make the playoffs, well, today it showed why they did not make it, because Georgia beat them 63-3, yeah, you heard that right, 63-3, 63-3, let's just say, what sport is that? Yeah, exactly, exactly, that does not sound right, that doesn't sound right, an undefeated conference champion losing 63-3 does not make sense, exactly, so, let's just say it's an embarrassment, college football was an embarrassment, but, we just want to say, Wolverines, go Wolverines, undefeated number one, yay, so, go Wolverines, also, talking about the ball season. Speaking of the Wolverines, will you be reporting from the stadium? I will not be reporting, but I will be at the Rose Bowl, number one Michigan versus number four Alabama, so, go Wolverines, down goes the tide, down goes the tide, the tide will go down for the Wolverines, so, yeah, I'll be at the game, I will not be reporting sadly, but, yeah, the other semifinal, congrats to Washington going undefeated, Pac-12 champions, Texas Pac-12 champions only lost being to Oklahoma, which is questionable, because they were a four loss team, don't know how that happened, but, maybe because it was the Red River rivalry and they were away, but, don't ask me why, but, they were number three in the country, it was debatable, I predicted that Georgia would win, they would stay number one, it would be number one Michigan, no, number one Georgia, number two Michigan, number three Florida State, number four Oregon. How is it, ok, explain to me how the rankings get determined, because it doesn't make any sense, some of these teams don't play with each other, so, how do they even... It's based on record, strength of opposition, control of games, and... Are there objective measures of that? Well, no, it depends how good your competition is, like, if you, it depends on your average, like, let's say you're averaging, you play like three top 25 teams in the year, that's considered a weak schedule, so, even if you went undefeated, like Liberty won, they're ranked number 23, because A, they're in a weak conference, and B, they've only played one ranked team this year, so that, that's why they're number 23, that makes sense. Other teams, like, I mean, I don't understand this, but I guess it sort of makes sense, Oregon was ranked so high, number eight, because their only two losses were to undefeated teams, well, actually the same undefeated team, Washington, they lost in the regular season and in the Panthers World Championship, so, I feel like it's fair that they were ranked high, also, um, good job to Missouri beating Ohio State in, was it the, it was the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, yeah, 14-3, good job. Also, I don't know what you're gonna do, Ohio State, you're down to your fourth string, buddy, you're down to your fourth string, same with Florida State, you're down to your fourth string, and congrats to Ole Miss for beating Penn State 38-25 in, was it, was it the Peace Bowl? Yeah, it was the Peace Bowl, so congrats on that, and the Fiesta Bowl, last year's demise for Michigan, it's gonna be Liberty, number 23, versus number eight, Oregon, so, that's gonna be on Monday, the Bulls have been entertaining, we had some entertaining ones like number 22 Clemson being, beating unranked Kentucky 38-35, they scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, Phil Moffitt just went off having three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, in the fourth quarter, I mean, Boston College upset SMU, so go Eagles, and we had many other entertainers like Arizona-Oklahoma, which was a blowout, Notre Dame destroying Oregon State 48-8, so we had a bunch of blowouts, and a bunch of contested games, so, right now, what I believe will happen is that Texas will beat Washington by a score of either 31-27, or 31-28, and Michigan will beat Alabama either 28-24, no, 28-20, or 24-16, those are my predictions. You think it's gonna be a low-scoring game, then? Yes I do, I do believe that, because we have two of the best defenses. Yeah, that's true. Also, I personally believe, Kool-Aid, you ain't cool anymore, when you gain moss by Roman Wilson five times, so, yeah, you ain't cool anymore, Kool-Aid. So, I personally believe it's gonna be low-scoring and close in all of these games. NFL playoff picture, by the way. The teams that have secured a playoff spot, I believe are Miami, Baltimore, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Dallas, so we have six, no, and the Browns, and Cleveland, so we have seven lock-ins. On the other hand, you have the sports center for getting this one, Lockerman, based on your choices, I don't think, by the way, who do you think will win the NFC South? Who do you think? I don't know. Pretty sure you know, I think you know. Who? So, it's really close, it's either gonna be the Buccaneers, who are 8-7, or the Saints, who are 7-8. No, the Buccaneers. Really? Yeah. I mean, Baker Mayfield is on a crazy good streak, he's blowing up defenses, like, against the Packers, two weeks, he had a perfect passer rating, 158.3, it's almost never done, he threw four touchdown no-picks, which is great. Also, C.J. Stroud has been a, Bryce Young has been a failure, they've been a failure, a failure, a failure, and definitely, I think the Panthers regret not picking up C.J. Stroud as number one overall. C.J. Stroud's definitely gonna win rookie of the year, unless stupid Sam LaPorta wins it, because I don't think he will, and it doesn't seem very much possible. So, yeah, I think that's mostly much to cover up today, so. Well, you haven't spoken yet about the MLS season that just ended, and how our LAFC was so close to winning a second time in a row, and the disappointing game that we had. So, yeah, we made it to the MLS Cup Final, this time as the third seed, playing Columbus, who were also the third seed, in Columbus, because they had more points, though. So, it was not home. And I think that was the big difference, right? Yeah, Columbus and LAFC are known to have the two best fan bases in all the MLS, and I think that was what made the difference this year. So, we lost 2-1, came close, didn't happen, by the way, into Miami, you make a super team of grandpas over there. You make a super team of grandpas. Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and now Luis Suarez. A bunch of old grandpa... Superstars. Superstars. Yeah. Grandpa superstars. Well, but... The grandpa stars. Think about this, LAFC just hired Jordis. I say, yeah, breaking news. Hugo Lloris, former Tottenham, and current France goalie, has been signed by LAFC, so we... Sorry, Kropot. Gotta wave goodbye. Sorry. Do you know how much he's going to get paid? I'm, at this moment, unaware. It's very low. It's $350,000. How is that possible? Explain to me. And they didn't even have to pay a transfer fee to the Spurs. No, it's because he was not on Spurs at the time. He was a free agent. Okay. And Jordis was 37 at the time. Nobody wanted him. They said he was old. So he had reports and news. He was desperate to get a team. Desperate. So when he saw any offer, he said, okay, I'll take it. So LAFC jumped at it and said, we'll give you very little money, but if you want to be on a team and finish your career somewhere, come to us. And have a great fan base, because LA has the best fan base. I think last year, two years ago, we cooked Philadelphia on PKs. We cooked them. Yeah. So, by the way, Steph Curry is not old anymore. By the way, he broke his 268 game streak with a three against the Portland Trail Blazers two weeks ago. Oh, we changed subjects quickly. We moved from MLS back to basketball. Yes. Without transition. I guess you're done with MLS, yeah? Yeah. Wait until March for that? Yeah, probably. Steph Curry can cook still. He can still cook. I'll just say that. And that Draymond Green is an embarrassment to the society of humanity. Why? Three suspensions in the last two months to explain that. Find me a way to get compensation for the embarrassment of Draymond Green. Explain to me that. Explain to me. What did he do? What was his sin? I believe he was in a fight with other people. Yeah, I think he was in a fight three times in a game. So, yeah, he got three suspensions. And also, John Morant, after getting his second suspension for posting on Instagram pictures of him holding a gun. What? He got suspended twice. He got suspended for 25 games. On his first game back, he got a buzzer beater. And they were 4-0 until they got creamed at the Sixers, which is great. Well, not great, not good, but it was expected. And John Morant, so good job on getting back on the court and doing what you do best, which is hoop. So, I think that'll close out today. Goodbye. If you're listening, thank you for listening. And adios. Are we? This has been an amazing podcast. Thank you to everyone who listened. And we are ready to close out this amazing podcast with our song. Thank you. Until next time. Adios.
