Inside with our host Nicolás Jaramillo. So today our basketball talk will start well mostly I'm gonna call it our clutch and very dramatic Friday and Saturday call it that. On Friday we had very dramatic we had a big game the second highest scoring game in NBA history. The Sacramento Kings beat the LA Clippers by 1.176 to 175 in double overtime. What a crazy game. Yes it was crazy it got tied at the last last second buzzer beater to end regulation. Then overtime we they stayed tied and then the double overtime they somehow managed to pull it off. It was a mind-blowing game. There were I believe 44 screens in that game and in in the second highest scoring game of all time. Do you know which one was the highest scoring game of all time? Yes I believe it's a 1983 game between the Denver Nuggets and some team I forget the name I forget what team they are but it was 184 to 183 in triple overtime but it only had two three pointers. In the second highest is 44 in the first highest there's two. Yeah 44 three-pointers? Against two. That's incredible. Okay what else happened this weekend? Saturday is very very very dramatic we had a buzzer beater from Arizona State against Arizona a buzzer beater from behind half court we had that game obviously we had three last second MLS which is where we want to start our MLS season talk. Okay. We had three games going down to the wire one game was decided by an 89th minute goal ended 1-0 another game they were losing 1-0 at 93 minutes they scored once and then at the 99th minute they scored again. Who was that? I believe it's the New York Red Bulls I believe. 99 minutes? They got the winner and then another game they won it another team won it at the 92nd minute. Drama, drama, drama. Then we had I can't even what I remember we have like two overtime college basketball games in women's and then like what three in men's like what Ohio State's game the women's team went down to two points they lost by two like it was very dramatic by the way new records have been set for most 40-point games in a season in NBA history by I believe it has been 165 40-point games by 50 different players. Really? The previous record. Are teams not defending anymore or what? There's still defense only that the offense is just really good now. The previous record was set in 1961-62 where they had 163 by only 20 different players the reason listen to this Wilt Chamberlain he had like a gazillion like a hundred of those 40-point games and that just shows that by the way two players averaging 33 points I think like six players averaging more than 30. Four years ago in 2018 we thought averaging 24 points a game was unbelievable now like for like a hundred players I believe are over that. Four years ago that was the highest like close to the highest. It just shows in four years how much more scoring the NBA has got and that's shocking. Yeah. What about in terms of three-pointers? Three-point numbers? Okay I can't stress this enough in the 90s in the first playoff series with threes in fact there weren't there wasn't a three for ten for five straight months since they put the three-point rule. It took them five months to get the first three. That's how long it took them that's how hard it was. Who's the one who has scored the most three points in one game? Klay Thompson. Klay Thompson? Yeah. When? I think it was in 2019 before his deadly knee injury. Okay. He scored 13 three-pointers in a game. And what about this season who's? Klay Thompson. Klay Thompson is doing well. He's gotten 12 in this month of February actually. 12 twice. 12 three-pointers twice? Yeah. And that's like tied for the second highest ever. The only other player to do that was Steph Curry and he did that once. And this guy has done that feat in one month? Twice. Amazing. And he also has a record which is kind of shocking. So he's a better three-pointer than Steph Curry then? No. It's just he's scored more because but I think you can say Steph Curry is better. Yeah. Because by he just hits these ridiculous half-court shots when he has a wide open layup. So when he comes back, the Warriors are going to be unstoppable. The only way they're going to make the playoffs is if their offense is like really good because they have zero defense now. Apparently all teams have zero defense right now. They have zero defense. I mean they traded I think like their number two pick in the 2020 draft for another I think of like a shooting guard. They have too many guards that can shoot and you miss. All you need is one tall center that is at least amateur. At least mediocre center. All you have to do is be seven foot and be at least a mediocre center. All they have is a 6'10 center which is very short for a center who is trash at defense. Who's better at offense than defense. I mean the center's main job is to block shots. He can't even block a single shot a game. It's kind of like you need somebody who's gonna block shots or defend or else you're just destroyed. Because if your best player like if let's say Clay Thompson has one bad game. Steph Curry can't get enough good passes from Clay Thompson which means he can't work too well. And because they have no defense, they're dead. Or vice versa. Really it's just like shocking that you buy so many guards. Waste all your money on guards. On mediocre, bad, good, amazing guards and forwards. And then you just don't have a center. A center. Oh my god. Just like I can't stress it enough. How many times have I said on this podcast just get a center. Just get a guy that's tall and that is at least mediocre at blocking shots. Just get somebody. Not a 6'10 loony who is supposed to be a small forward. Don't use that guy. Get somebody real. Somebody that can actually be a good defender. Just get anyone. Anybody. So what do you think happened to the LAFC LA Galaxy games that were supposed to be played at the Rose Bowl? What do you make of the excuse that they gave the public that because of weather they were going to cancel that. Oh my god. It's just like. It's a joke. It's an excuse because they want El Trafico to be just with fans. It's the only reason. They bring that excuse up so that they don't get punished by something. So that they don't get punished. They only brought up that excuse. Why do you think it's the real reason? Because no fans were going to the game because it was going to be. It wasn't going to be raining actually. Okay. But I mean it wasn't raining. I don't understand what you're saying about the fans. What do you mean there were not going to be any fans? Because remember the LA Galaxy fans boycotted the game because of their owner. They're still boycotting the game? Yeah. But really it's like. Tell that story. How come they're boycotting the team? What's going on? Well turns out they had I think I believe they had sacked their owner because he was making really bad decisions with the team. You mean the president? Yeah the president I mean. And then they secretly kept him. They told all the fans that they were selling him. And that they needed a new team president. But they secretly kept him. And then when the Galaxy fans found out they got so mad that now they're holding a protest against the team by not going to their games. So you think that's why they canceled the initial game? Yeah. Because they didn't have enough tickets sold? Yeah and they didn't make enough money for it. Because there's only going to be LAFC fans. And the excuse for rain is just terrible. It didn't even rain at all. It's the worst excuse ever. It didn't rain at all. Well plus it rains all the time in England and they would cancel the game because of rain. I mean they play in the snow. Short sleeve. Just get your head into the game. That is weak. Plus it did not even rain at all. It didn't rain at all. This is a regular night game. Only without the Galaxy fans. That is the worst excuse ever. But they're not going to have that excuse for next game. So what's going to happen? Are they going to just play in empty stadiums? Well I believe it's going to be here in the bank. Banks California Stadium. I believe it's going to be here on July 4th. By the way you know they changed the name. They did? Yes it's called the BMO now. The BMO? Yeah. Terrible name. Yeah terrible. It's a new bank. The new bank bought the rights to name the stadium. The BMO. BMO. BMO Stadium. That's a terrible name. BMO. That's a terrible name. Yeah. BMO has a terrible name. Well that's the name of the bank. Oh well. It's my bank actually. Is it? I bank at the bank. Oh cool. Well there is something that I wanted to mention. LAFC now their next team is going to be against the Portland Timbers at home. Yes. At the BMO. Will you be at that game? Probably. Yeah. And by the way sometime soon we will actually be having our live stadium podcast. We will have part of our podcast be at the stadium. So stay tuned for that. It's going to be a very exciting one. So just for the near future whenever that might happen. Yeah it's all going to be an LAFC game most definitely. That is wonderful. And really it's been really really really good for the um just for LAFC to win that cup. We actually they posted they're like reliving the cup. They're remembering that cup that was just like once the video was very emotional very dramatic the game itself. For a bad memory of having lived that moment at the stadium. Knowing that I was there that game. And I think that it's one of the best games I've ever been or actually it's the best game I've ever been to in my life. Let alone watched. Yeah. And just like feel that now there's a problem. They said because now they're really their only proven star is Carlos Vela. Last season they said he was so good in the preseason. It seemed like he was good in the first game. He had a hat trick and then he just kind of fell apart on the goal side. Sure he was making assists but it seemed like he wasn't doing much during the season. And now they say that he's doing the same reports. Can we trust them and believe that he's actually going to be he's going to regain his form from before the injury? Or are we going to see another season that we did like last season? What do you think? I think he's in really good shape and I think he's mentally changed by having won this tournament. You think we're going to see that 2019? And you know who I think is going to be our moneymaker? Who? Buanga. Buanga? Yes. I mean sure he misses a lot of open shots but he's a very good dribbler and very strong on the ball. He's very dangerous. He's bringing it and everyone on that team has their head really well put. That's true. But what I'm saying is that you think he can get back to his 2019 form where he was unstoppable? Really? Yeah. Yes. I think he's going to be a one goal per game guy this season. Then that would be 38 goals this season. Okay bring it. New MLS record. What is the MLS record? Set by him. I think he scored in 2019 he scored 35? 33 I think. 33? That's the record. All right. He set the record. Okay well there you go. I think he's bringing it then. How many did teacher have last season? 18. 18? Yeah. And that was pretty good. Pretty good. I mean in 2021 the season they came and then they missed playoffs sadly. He actually won MLS newcomer of the year in fact which is a pretty good award because there are a lot of new good players in that league. Now I never really found out who was the MLS MVP this season. Do you know who it was by any chance? I don't. I'm trying to think. I know that in 2021 it was Thomas here which was a very questionable decision. Very questionable in my opinion. You know the MLS lost something very big earlier last season? What? I think that's the MLS. Yeah. Oh my god he was the only he became part of the reason that everybody wanted to come to the MLS because and New York City FC because and with FC because they were just really he was outstanding like where did he go? I think he went to like some team in Argentina I think because he's from Argentina and what I'm gonna say is that it's just sad that he left and now that those those talents that in like 2016, 2017, in 2018, 2019 used to be the best players in the league. Now they're fading away and we have okay we have good players to replace them but not enough to replace that generation that generational talent like Jose Martinez, Carlos maybe he had a rebirth who knows and Tati Castellanos he was a major part in it. All those players that generational talent is now going away and that's very sad to see because they were just like really good. Don't you think we can bring new ones? I mean we can bring something but I don't think enough to replace how good and how many the people were how many people that were really good were in the MLS and that's just kind of like sad to see them one by one. I mean at least I think so. Who would you bring if it was up to you? Trying to bring somebody from Europe I can't stress it enough they had okay fine they're bringing okay maybe I'll take that back breaking news Lionel Messi is going to enter Miami in May how about that unless you got Lionel Messi world champion sheesh that's gonna be like yeah the MLS is getting good the MLS is getting really good. We got lots and lots of attention now we just like are like I mean like the MLS is just like getting lots of attention now I mean sure Messi is like the greatest like maybe second greatest of all time behind Pele who actually in fact 50 years ago came to the U.S. to play for New York Cosmos but what I'm saying is that would you take six players that are two levels below 10 players that are two levels below Messi or Messi and two others that are five four levels below him what would you take what would you take 10 10 players two levels below or what or Messi plus two players that are three levels below him no I would take the 10 players and that's what I'm and that's what I'm talking about that was back in 2016 to 2019 I mean like 2015 2019 they had these type of players they're two levels below Messi and now the best players we have are players including and I'm not gonna call him the 2019 man because that was just like too good he was too good that season it's impossible after a hamstring injury to come back that good he will I think he will be that good this year really yes hi I can't call him I can't call him two levels below Messi but he was in 2019 we'll have to see I might have to change that but now it's just down to two good players which is Caloretta and Giussi and and Messi coming up coming over but back then they were like 10 players that were three two maybe even one level below Messi yeah I think Buanga is high level I think Chiellini is really high level oh yeah but would you call him Messi level? Chiellini? yeah he's one of the best defenders in the world that's true but he's on the decline now he isn't as mobile as he was 10 years ago in his prime he isn't as mobile isn't Suarez coming to the MLS? no he's he's coming he's going back to Atletico Madrid because he went on a loan to Uruguay okay he's coming back but I I just think that like there's a tension game definitely Suarez has interest in the MLS definitely that's just something to look at in the near future now what would you think about what's going on in the NFL trees what do you think is going to happen to Cowboys the Cowboys but their kicker situation their money oh you were going to tell me about Aaron Rodgers what ended up happening with him oh yeah he hasn't made a decision yet but he's with a lot of talks with the New York Jets the chances of him going to the Raiders are like dead down like 0.001 chance that he's going to the Raiders oh really like almost no chance at all that he's going to the Raiders so now it looks like he's probably going to the Jets maybe who knows but then I've already talked about it do you want oh a healthy Derek well not so healthy Derek Carr that can give you a 15 win season and play for four more years or he can give you a two win season and play for one more season or you can get at the most two more seasons from Aaron Rodgers but at least a guaranteed nine wins what would you take a bit longevity no over winning seasons well no actually winning one season for sure and at least you're going to make the playoffs for one more season which is going to end their play I think it's like a 24 year playoff drought yeah 24 years without making the playoffs go for that yeah yeah I agree but now let's talk about the cowboy situation remember the kicker what what problem yeah okay yeah they haven't changed it they haven't done anything about it yet he single-handedly lost on the the Super Bowl chances yeah like see they haven't done anything about it they're not going for anything they're sticking with him yeah they're sticking with him and now there's a salary cap problem do you keep Tony Pollard or do you keep back Prescott or do you let go of both what would you do would you keep it would you keep your your franchise quarterback or would you keep your franchise running back or let go of both do you think that the running back is better than the quarterback why is that the choice why not just cut from a bunch of other players because these are the only two players who have their salary cap done you can't well not the salary cap I mean their deals done I mean they could cut other players but it isn't worth it because most of the other players on their team are really good players that you cannot afford to trade but the quarterback last season threw 15 trades 15 interceptions while missing five games so essentially what he did is in 16 games one less than at least every quarterback plays and starts every game in the regular season but they miss the playoffs and he threw 15 interceptions still the league lead that's like terrible that's really bad so I don't see I think you would go for that Prescott go maybe because that's 36 million salary cap if they keep them then they're negative negative 37 negative 27 million dollars if they keep them what's the penalty for that I don't know like a lot more money yeah so you have and that Prescott is 36 million all right so and on closing how about the how about the deal to sell the the dc the Washington dc team oh Washington commanders commanders yeah no one no insights about that actually they said that Jeff Bezos the owner of Amazon was going to buy it but they they blocked him from from participating in the bidding really the current owner hates him so he decided he does not want the team to be owned by Jeff Bezos wow wow you didn't know that yeah oh there's one more thing that I wanted to say the dumbest decision by the bears they traded their bet their quarterback Justin Fields who was the best runner in the league last season but they do have the first round pick the first pick in the draft so that's just something to keep in your mind when for the draft when it comes in April so this is wonderful see you next time I can't wait until our next podcast oh by the way it's going to be the series finale it's going to be the season finale season finale with the first game of the lafc oh yeah right that would be wonderful goodbye and see you next time oh my
