Jon Morant's season-ending shoulder injury is a big blow to the Memphis Grizzlies. They have struggled without him and currently have a poor record. The team should focus on getting a high draft pick and targeting a top center in the upcoming draft. They could also consider trading for an elite big man to pair with Morant and their other young stars. Despite this setback, the Grizzlies have a bright future with their young core and the potential for a strong season next year. It's best for them to tank and prepare for the future. Yo what's good y'all it's Jono back from Top Box Central and in today's video we're going to be going over Jon Morant's season-ending injury and how it affects the Memphis Grizzlies. Let's get right into it. So last night we learned some crazy news that Jon Morant, his shoulder tear ended his whole season after only playing nine games this year. This is honestly just very sad to see and it really affects the Memphis Grizzlies. Now they're a bottom five team in the NBA and it just really sucks man because this dude was on a 25-game suspension and now just comes back and gets literally an injury that puts him out for the whole year. And with Jon Morant playing in the nine games that he did play in, the Grizzlies did go six and three in all those games which he averaged 25.1 points per game, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds during the stretch of all those games that he played in. And this is definitely a negative setback for the Grizzlies but if you want to look at it you know I mean the Grizzlies were probably too far back in the Western Conference standings like standings to really make a run for anything more than the play in tournament. Really because they got off to such a bad start without jaw and as it stands the Grizzlies entered Monday with a 13 and 23 record which puts them at 13th place. And this team has already had a handful of season ending injuries especially with their bigs. In Steven Adams and Brandon Clark they're both out for the season or out for an extended period amount of time and honestly I don't think it would be really worth really trying. And I think they should honestly just go for a lottery pick and just try to tank for a really good pick since I mean they already are in the top six best odds for getting that number one overall pick. I definitely think they should pursue like one of the top centers in this next draft class. I would say go after maybe like Alex Sarr from France. I mean he's ranked number four in you know the current draft listing right now and also they could go after maybe some other guys like Kyle Flipowski from Duke, Donovan Klingon from UConn or maybe even Aaron Bradshaw as a sleeper pick from Kentucky. But yeah man I think that's definitely one route they should go into is getting a top five or top four draft pick trying to pursue that because I mean they need a new center and I feel like it'd be this best to get a younger center to kind of pair along with like the young guys like John Morant. I mean this team is you know very young on average and why not try to find a young rising elite center that they can try to just make better and just improve their game. And another thing they can maybe do for you know tanking and getting that lottery pick is trading the lottery pick for maybe an elite big or somebody to pair along with John Morant and Desmond Bain and Jaron Jackson you know just to help them become that much more dangerous and help the Grizzlies overall future just become that much more brighter. Because Memphis already has guys obviously like I said Desmond Bain and Jaron Jackson who are all-star level players and they can continue to develop the rest of the season as focal points without conceding you know the touches to Ja. And Memphis can go crazy next season especially with a healthy Morant potentially an even better Desmond Bain and Jaron Jackson and even Adams and Clark to you know be back for the offensive glass and then maybe even trade you know their draft pick and maybe some other assets to go along with that and to give them more of an elite center to try to go after. Maybe somebody along the lines of like a Myles Turner for example or just somebody kind of like that you know that can kind of shoot the ball and give a little bit of spacing to the Memphis Grizzlies and somebody that can you know just play defense you know in the post and grab a little bit of rebounds and just help them out as well. Because that's something I would just say they were lacking even when they had Ja. Morant obviously was you know just having a big man that can grab boards and just you know help you know pair along with Jaron Jackson Jr. But while this may seem like a tough loss for the Grizzlies I mean it's not really long term because their season might have just been over anyways and now they can just chalk it up as an official loss for the whole year and just start building towards what is still really a bright future for this team. Especially whenever your main guys are only 24 and 25 years old I mean there's still a lot of room to grow there and the potential is still going to be there next season. And like I said I mean I don't really know if there was really even a huge chance that they were even going to make it to the play-in tournament this season because with their main focal point in Ja. Morant and you know main leader I just don't think this team works out good at all and I think they're honestly a bottom five team like I said in like last season I know the Grizzlies did go crazy without Morant but they still had you know like Steven Adams and stuff playing so that kind of helped in you know a little bit. But still just without Ja. Morant I mean there's no point in really winning any games and you should just try to get a higher lottery pick like I said and just try to get a new center to add to this team to pair along with Jaron Jackson, Desmond Bain, and Ja. And without him in the lineup this season the Grizzlies are 7-20 so at this point like I said I think this team should just tank and just try to not make the playoffs at all. I mean they have really no contention at doing so especially without this man and honestly I think that he'll come back better than ever next season and I hope that he does play his best that he's ever played. And with a red hot Morant next season I think them going after like I said getting an elite center or just a really good rookie this would help them a ton and it would make them a really tough playoff contender to try to beat especially if Ja. Morant can stay healthy all next season that would help them a ton and also not getting suspended would definitely help him as well so he just needs to try to stay out of trouble and do not get injured as well and I think this team would be a tough playoff contender next season with all these guys coming back and maybe trading like a few of the role players mixed in with that really good draft pick. I think they could get something nice or just go with the draft pick like I said and get like Alex Saar who's a very solid and elite versatile draft pick that they could try to get and this man is ranked top four right now and tanking would only really benefit this team for sure because I mean they would be just really preparing for the next season. So I hope that's what the Grizzlies do is just try to tank and become a bottom five team like they already proved that they were before they had Morant and let me know down below in the comments what you guys think that the Grizzlies should do. Do you guys think that they should already go after a proven center already that's in the league right now or go after somebody in the draft with like you know a top four top five draft pick that they can hopefully get? Let me know down below in the comments and if you guys enjoyed make sure to like the video and subscribe and turn on post notifications and I'll see y'all in the next one. I'm out.
