Narnia Dahn here, and you're listening to Connected, the bi-weekly newsletter for guidance on growing your business in coherence. This is issue number four, and it's called the why from within. Point to your real self. Where did your finger point? We instinctively know that our heart is who we really are. Phrases throughout different cultures like put your heart into it and listen to your heart have passed on that wisdom. Our heart speaks in a unique way, often showing up as a quiet, instinctive feeling or a direct knowing. Our heart's intelligence connects directly with the field and doesn't have to filter through the ego and limiting beliefs. Unlike the brain, which is split left or right, black or white, yes or no, the heart is nonjudgmental and provides the whole picture. It shows the truth as it is, inclusive of all. It cuts through complexity, allowing you to see what's important right now. One of my favorite things about heart intelligence is it can be fast. Have you ever received a high-speed, full-picture intuitive download? Why is it so speedy when you ask your heart a question? The answers are already there, ready and waiting for you. I once heard Greg Brayden say, forming the question is just a formality. Your brain thinks, your heart knows. There is compelling evidence to suggest that the physical heart is coupled to a field of information that is not bound by the classical limits of time and space. That is a direct quote from a paper published on the NIH PubMed site. But it can be challenging to distinguish the quiet guidance of our heart from the noisy chatter of our mind, even though they are two very different perspectives. When I hear something that is truth, with a capital T, for me, whether it is coming from within or from an external source of information, I have a palpable reaction. It's like a bolt of electricity shooting into my heart, or maybe more accurately, shooting outward. And I tear up with tears of joy. When it happens, I call it truth tears. The intensity only lasts for a second, but because I have brought attention to it, that's all I need. Nowadays, I even nod afterwards and say, ah, okay, yes, I got that. I understand. Thank you. I have a friend who gets a little internal giggle and another who gets a little body shake when they hear their truth. Think of a time when you heard a truth. What did it sound like? What did it feel like? Where did you feel it? For me, giving it a name helped me continue to recognize it. Does your truth process have a name? Our feelings are a key aspect to unlocking access to heart intelligence. Start to pay attention when it shows up. The more you do, the louder and clearer it will become. Let's practice asking your heart a question right now. First, simply start to slow your breathing down a bit. This signals your body that you are safe. Now bring your attention to your heart. You may find it helpful to place your hand over your heart or even hold some fingers pointing in towards your heart, pressing gently. Imagine your breath is flowing in and out of your heart area, allowing your breathing to be slow and deep and ask what does my true heart intelligence feel like? And now ask, what is my deeper why? Just be receptive, curious. Allow your heart's guidance to reveal itself to you. Anchored in science, did you know that the heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart? In 1991, pioneer neurocardiologist Dr. J. Andrew Armour coined the term heart brain. He found that the heart has its own complete nervous system that acts just like a brain and functions independently from the brain in our head. There is now confirmation that the heart's brain can learn, has neuroplasticity, and has short and long-term memory. The heart has an effect on the brain centers involved in our strategic thinking, reaction times, and self-regulation. The heart also helps synchronize other systems of the body so that they can all function in harmony with each other. Take a moment to send your powerful heart a thank you. And this research is fascinating and ongoing. If you are not already familiar, learn more at heartmath.org. In the market, people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it. That is a quote from Simon Sinek. Do you have a clear articulated purpose for your business? Are you in touch with your deeper why? Having a defined purpose gives meaning and direction to everything you do in your business. This is about you connecting to a cause that's bigger than you are, but which is also congruent with who you are and what you care about. It becomes your North Star. Use it to stay connected to the future you are building now. Allow it to guide your decisions so you know your actions are aligned. Use it to keep you steady during the exciting highs and challenging lows of building your business. And let's turn it up to maximum brightness. The guiding light of your why can be focused like a laser beam, getting you fired up to find the courage to take risks and move forward, allowing you to tap into reserves of energy when you need it most. Quickly reigniting your commitment to get you back on track if you derail, blasting you through doubt, distraction, and overwhelm. Inspiration is more powerful than motivation, Danielle Lepore says in The Desire Map. If you haven't thought about your why in a while, here are some prompts to journal about. Where in my business do I naturally feel inspiration? Do I have a sense of a vision? If not, can I remember a time when I felt connected to a higher purpose for my business? What would be a reason for me to jump out of bed in the morning excited for the day ahead? What's at stake? How would I feel if I died without doing this? How would I feel if I did not follow the wisdom of my heart? What matters most to me? Go deep. Keep asking questions to uncover more layers. And don't be afraid to get selfish. Remember, you fulfilling your deepest purpose uplifts the whole planet. So you don't lose sight of your why, have it posted where you need to see it most. Images as your computer or phone background, sticky notes near your workspace or your car dashboard. And how can you embody your purpose, like fully feeling it in your body? I love power poses to quickly change my state. Or maybe simply touching your heart lights up your North Star. What do you need to do to stay aligned with your authentic why? How can you incorporate your why into your business marketing? Is it something that you would feel would make sense to include on your website? And Simon Sinek has an interesting approach to discovering your why. Check it out here in this video. And I'd love to hear from you. How does your truth appear to you? Did you have any aha moments asking your heart for guidance? Did delving into your business why activate more inspiration to keep you moving forward more effortlessly? And coming up in the next issue, how to tell if you are creating a ceiling on your own success, and more importantly, how to stop doing that. So stay tuned. I am so grateful I am here with you connected. Thanks for listening.
