Kai Antonio, a Grade 4 student and waste management ambassador, discusses water pollution. He explains that water pollution occurs when harmful substances like trash and oil get into rivers, lakes, and oceans, making water unsafe for animals and people. Causes of water pollution include chemicals from factories, pesticides and fertilizers from farming, and littering. Pollution can harm animals, plants, and the environment. To prevent water pollution, Kai suggests not throwing garbage in the water, being mindful of what goes down drains, using less plastic, recycling more, and cleaning up litter. Small actions can make a big difference in keeping water clean and safe. Welcome, everyone, to our special episode of MythThorpe Learning Centre, where we're have a very special guest joining us today. We're going to be talking about a really important topic, water pollution. Today, I have with me Kai Antonio, who is a Grade 4 student of Green Pond Primary and Infant School. Kai is a waste management ambassador for his community, and a part of his duty is to inform his community members about proper and improper ways for disposing waste. He also contacts the National Solid Waste Management if the garbage truck does not come for pick-up on Tuesdays. And who better to learn with than a brilliant fourth-grade student? Please welcome Kai Antonio. Hi, everyone. I am so excited to be here to talk about water pollution. And we are very thrilled to have you, Kai. So let's dive right in. What exactly is water pollution, and why is it such a big deal? Well, water pollution happens when harmful substances like trash, oil, get in our water source, like rivers, lakes, and oceans. It's a big deal because it can make water unsafe for animals, people, and it can also harm plants and the environment. That is so right, Kai. Now let's talk about what causes water pollution. Can you tell our listeners about that? Sure. There are a lot of things that can be caused by water pollution. For example, when factories release chemicals into the water, or when farmers use too many pesticides and fertilizers on their crops. Even things like littering and dumping trash into the rivers and the streams can pollute the water. All right. That's a very good explanation, Kai. Now, let us move on to talk about the effects of water pollution. What happens when our water gets polluted? But before we move on to that, Kai, we're going to take a short break, and then we get back to answering that question. Okay? Okay. Recycling Partners of Jamaica. Yeah, we got to make a change. And we have to do it now, don't wait till later. We put plastic in its place. And we are a community that will be safer than in the gullies and in the drains. Recycling Partners of Jamaica. We put plastic in its place. All right. Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back. That was a very interesting message by the Recycling Partners of Jamaica. Let's give a shout out to them, everyone. Now, we were about to talk about some of the effects of pollution. Kai, let's get right into that. When water gets polluted, it can make animals sick or even cause them to die. It can also make people sick if they drink or swim in the polluted water. And pollution can harm plants and other living things. It depends on clean water to survive. You are absolutely right, Kai. So it is so important to understand how pollution affects everything around us. Now, let's talk about what we can do to help to prevent water pollution. Now, we know that some of the things that we can do is not directly throwing garbage in the water. Right? Isn't that a good suggestion, listeners? Yes. Yes, that is a great suggestion. So what do you think, Kai? Or better yet, let's give this one to our audience. This is Naya. One thing we can do is to be careful what we throw down the drain and throw away. How about you, Amor? Also, use less plastic and recycle more so it doesn't end up in the water. And we can help clean up litter and pollution in our community. That's fantastic advice, everyone. Every little action we take can make a big difference in keeping our water clean and safe. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us today, Kai, Naya, and Amor. Well, that's all the time we have today. I want to give a big thank you to our amazing guest, Kai Antonio, our audience, and our listeners at home for joining us and sharing their insights on water pollution. Thank you for having me, Ms. Thorpe. It was so much fun learning about water pollution with you. And thank you to all our listeners for tuning in. And remember, today we can make a positive impact on our environment. Until next time, stay curious and keep exploring!
