Matsuo Bashō

Matsuo Bashō, also known as Matsuo Kinsaku and Matsuo Chūemon Munefusa, was a renowned poet from Japan during the Edo period. Born in 1644, he became the most celebrated writer of his time. Bashō gained recognition for his contributions to the collaborative haikai no renga form, a style of poetry. Over the centuries, his works have been extensively studied and analyzed, and he is now revered as the ultimate master of haiku, which was referred to as hokku during his era.
