Madison Parisi interviews her boyfriend, Patrick, about his accomplishment of graduating from trade school in HVAC-R. Patrick explains that HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. He is proud of this accomplishment because it proved to himself that he could focus and dedicate himself to something. Going to trade school involved 10 different segments over the course of one year. This accomplishment has had a significant impact on Patrick's everyday life and has become the backbone of his career. He is proud of himself for achieving this at a young age and having a clear direction in life. Despite the stress, Patrick believes it was worth it to go through trade school early. Hello, everybody. My name is Madison Parisi. I'm currently a senior at Oakland and my major is in political science. I'm from Warren, Michigan, and today I will be interviewing my boyfriend, Patrick. My first question is, what is an accomplishment you are proud of? The accomplishment that I am proud of is graduating from trade or tech school. I went for heating and cooling, also commonly known as HVAC or HVAC-R. So what is HVAC or HVAC-R? So it's actually an acronym, and it stands for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Usually they don't put the R on there, though, just because it doesn't look as well. HVAC really is more suiting to the I. That makes sense. Why does this accomplishment make you proud? I wasn't really too big into school and stuff when I was younger, so the fact that I was able to go back and prove something to myself, that I'm able to hunker down and focus and dedicate myself to something really did something good for me as far as my mental state went. It also took a lot of dedication and sacrifice of personal freedom, which I think is nothing to be scoffed at. So all in all, I'd say probably just the effort that went into it to prove myself to myself. And so what did going to trade school entail? Did you have like one big course or multiple separate courses? So it was one year all in all, but it was divided into 10 different segments. Each of those segments were specific to their own right in the HVAC trade as a general idea. Okay, that's interesting. Would you say that this accomplishment has impacted your everyday life? And if so, how has it done that? It's entirely changed my everyday life because like I said before, I went from a respectable trade where something could be said about being so young and educated in that field. And I went full swing into something entirely different. So this accomplishment specifically has created the backbone of what I know now as my career. I would have been useless in a lot of the situations that I'm in today, just last year. So it's really changed as far as what my day to day looks like. Would you say that you're proud of yourself as well, because you did that at such a young age, whereas other people maybe do that later in life? Definitely. I went to school with a lot of people that were a lot older than me. And even in school, it seemed like they didn't really have direction. So just the fact that I was there with a direction and an idea of something that I wanted to do that would actually make a difference to contribute to society, especially because like I said beforehand, I was contributing to society in a different way. This way I get to directly affect people's lives and help them. So it feels good to be so young and have a purpose that's so definitive. There was stuff there that was more stressful than not. But all in all, I do think that it was worth it to go through it all as early as I did just to get it out the way. Well, yeah, I definitely say that's a great accomplishment to be proud of. Thank you for sharing.
