Dominguez podcast and I am here with one of my students named Allison So Allison, do you know what we're doing today? No Are you nervous a? Little a little okay, so I'm gonna ask you a little question Have you ever seen someone and felt so bad for them and you're like, oh my gosh Like I just want to give them a piece of my clothing or a piece of I don't know a bracelet or one of my toys Yeah Really? How did you feel in that moment? And why I? Don't know. I just felt like I needed to do something for them and like give them something. Oh Have you ever actually done that before or it was just a thought I've done that before really. Can you tell us a little about your story? So it was this one friend and she kind of didn't like she just came from Cuba and she didn't really know that much English so like it's okay. I could like be your friend. I could teach you a little bit more and maybe you could like like I can like show you what we've done for like the year. Oh That's really nice Okay, so today we're gonna be reading a story and it's gonna be similar to that. Okay. Okay. Are you ready? Yes Let's get to it The story is called the red dress so just by the title, what do you think it's gonna be about? Very important like like red dress to someone Do you think it's gonna be someone in need maybe? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, I guess we'll find out right? Priya's mother got her a new dress for her birthday The dress was red in color It also had flowers at the very bottom These flowers were blue green and white Priya said to her mother. This is the best birthday surprise ever. Thank you so much Her mother said I'm very glad you like the gift Priya loved this dress and wore it for her birthday. She looked beautiful All her friends asked about her dress Priya was very happy the next day when she was looking outside her window She saw something which made her very sad She saw a young girl around her age who was cleaning bowls and helping her mother make dinner Priya would see this girl from her window every day One day she decided to take her red dress and give it to the girl The girl had tears of joy and said thank you so much. This is the best surprise ever This reminds Priya of what she had said to her mother on her birthday When she reached home she told her mother the story she said I'm sorry that I had to give away your gift mom Her mother gave her a big hug and said I'm very proud of you Priya She also told Priya that this act was the best return gift She could have ever got. This made Priya feel good about herself again So what do you think about the story? I liked it. You liked it? What did you grasp from it? That it's very important that you give things to others in need Okay, is that everything? And the other thing I thought about it was that she saw the girl cleaning bowls from her window And she felt really bad for that girl so she gave her a dress And that shows that she has a nice feeling and that she really cares about other people Okay, so I'm going to ask you four questions, okay? Okay What colors were the flowers on the dress? They were blue, green, and white Okay, and you kind of already stated this but what did Priya see from her window? The girl washing the dishes and helping her mom cook Okay What did Priya do? She gave her the red dress that her mother gave her as a gift on her birthday Good job And what did Priya's mother do when she did that? She said that it was really good and that it is the best return gift ever Aww, so you don't think she was mad or anything? No, because she said that it was the best and that she felt really proud for her So overall, do you think the story taught you anything? Yes Okay, what did it teach you? It taught me that I have to think for others too and I have to help others and not only think for myself Because it's not really going to be fair for the others who are in need That's nice, yeah Don't ever be selfish in life, you know? Because there's other people that might have a worse or better situation than you, you know? Okay, now we're going to read another story called Our Friendly Neighbors Are you ready? Yes Hi, my name is Priya and I live in Mumbai with my grandparents, parents and my naughty brother Our neighbors are the Nikes who live in the penthouse They have a pet, the friendly deagle named Oliver Mr. Nike always takes Oliver for a walk in the morning and comes back with little goodies for my brother and me Mrs. Nike is a great cook and whenever they cook anything, the aroma floods our house and all of us keep dreaming of what it is Their children are married and live outside Mumbai One day, my mom was unwell and had to be hospitalized for a few days My dad was wondering how to manage food for us The Nikes came home and told my parents not to worry and they would manage our kitchen Every day, they used to come to our house in the morning by 6.30am and make our breakfast and lunch, which was always something different and tasty They used to cook dinner at their home and send it to us My grandparents also love their cooking My dad told me that time, it is a great virtue to help one another at times of need, which I will always remember and thanks to the Nikes So, what did you think about that story? I thought that you should always help other people because the Nikes helped their mom by giving her food, which she was hospitalized So, the Nikes would come over and give the kids food since their mom wasn't at home Okay, how many people were at Maria's house? The grandparents, the parents, and their brother Good Where were the Nikes living? Do you remember what it was called? A penthouse Yeah, a penthouse. Do you remember where? In Mumbai Good job And who was hospitalized? And what was the issue because of that? The mom was hospitalized Okay, and what was the issue? The issue was that the parents got scared that the kids wouldn't get enough food Okay, what did Maria learn from this incident? That it's always nice to be kind to others and help them and try to do everything so that they're okay Good. So, do you think that this book and the last book were similar? Yes In what way? Both of the characters were helping other families and helping them when they're in need and always making sure that they're okay Good job. Thank you for joining our podcast, Allison And always remember kids, be nice and kind to one another, okay? Thank you so much and I'll see you next week for our next podcast
