This is Krystlin hosting. Adarsh discusses the 1900 Galveston Hurricane, noting the high tides, damage, and harsh government orders to shoot looters. Adarsh questions the reasonableness of this punishment. They also discuss the handling of casualties, including sending bodies to sea without identification. The treatment of looters is seen as understandable, but not ideal. Alright, this is Krystlin, your host. We're going to jump into our first reading of Group 2, the Monthly Weather Review, the Galveston Hurricane, and Adarsh is going to give us his opinions on it. Hey guys, Adarsh here. This document talks about the hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900. It was very bad, like very high tides, a lot of water, a lot of damage. But one thing that I find really interesting is that in a time of crisis like this, the government gave, and I quote, gave orders that where a person was caught looting the dead, that he was to be shot, end quote. I think that when they already have such a big problem on their hands, it wouldn't be reasonable to kill looters. I mean, I'm not saying it's good, but it's a very harsh punishment. Yeah, Adarsh, I like what you said about how they handled the situation. And I also think they could have done a better job. For instance, quote, engaging a tugboat and barge arrangements were made to send bodies to sea. There was no time for identification, end quote. The way they handled the casualties was not ideal, but understandable. Understandable just like the looters they killed.
