In this podcast episode, the speaker emphasizes the importance of being specific about your goals and getting clear on what you want to achieve. They encourage listeners to set specific targets, have metrics, and determine an end date for their goals. The speaker also mentions the need to reverse engineer the process of achieving these goals and to think about what comes next after reaching them. They highlight the importance of dedicating time to think about and define your goals, rather than just saying vague statements. The speaker acknowledges that setting specific goals can be challenging and may require effort, but it is necessary for progress and creating momentum. Overall, the message is to be specific, set clear targets, and take action to achieve your goals. What is happening team? So, welcome to the first Extra Mile podcast where I will be delivering this every single Wednesday, guys. And it's literally going to be a wee short, short, sweet injection of energy. As I say, guys, like, literally, well, one photo op. I hope it actually is recording my voice because I've had a pure fuckabout with trying to figure this out. So I hope it's actually working. But as I say, guys, like, all this is going to be about is on one certain subject every single week. So we're going to kind of change it up and it's not going to be anything crazy, guys. It's to give you 10 minutes, 15 minutes at max to get a wee bit of your boost halfway through the week. Because as I say, like, Wednesday is more like hump day, if you will, where a lot of people start to feel a wee bit pure flat. So if you look at it, guys, you've obviously got the Monday reset on a Monday, which will just kick start your week. And you've got the podcast on a Wednesday as well. You've got our touch point on the Thursday. And also you've got the Thursday trains every second week. And then you go into the weekend and that kind of guy. So, like, there's so many touch points for this week where you guys can just get constant momentum. So utilise this, guys. So what I want to talk about this week is get very specific. And what I mean by this is, guys, like, get so specific on what you want to achieve that it becomes as clear as fucking day. Okay? It's like what I've picked up on recently, and this isn't just you guys. This is just across the board that so many people will say that they want to do X, Y and Z, right? But in the grand scheme of things, man, they don't actually know what it is they want to do. Do you know what I mean? They're like, I just want to lose a bit of weight. Is it how much weight do you want to lose? Do you know what I mean? It's like, I just want to be able to run a 10K. Like, how fast do you want to be able to run it? Do you know what I mean? Like, get very, very specific on it. It's like people go, I want to just change how my life's looking. What bit of life do you want to change? And the best bit of advice I can give you guys is just get so clear on it and then start reverse engineering it from there. Do you know what I mean? Like, a lot of things that you might end up saying, like you might have something in the back of your head, right? That's a bit wacky, right? But see if you get it out loud and say it, and it's like, say, three, four, five, six months away. You can reverse engineer it from there, but get so specific on the outcome. Do you know what I mean? It's like, for instance, right, I've been talking away to Georgia. I've been talking away to Christian and that kind of stuff. Obviously, we are running the length of Scotland. In August, it started off as just a bit like a pure, let's see if we can do this. But I got so specific on it, I wanted to get it done in 10 days, that it was easy to reverse engineer it. So we know how much I need to run per day. We know where I need to run to, and we know how we're going to do it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still ironing out wee bits and bobs, as you can imagine. But see if I just said, I want to run the length of Scotland. Like, that could have took forever. It could have been like 20 days, two days, two months, two years. I know two years is a bit fucking over the top, but it could have been, guys. So see when people go like, I want to lose weight. And you're like, ah, right. So what's the metrics of it? How much amount of weight do we want to lose? And when's it happening? When's the end date? And as I say, guys, a lot of people will just say, I just want to get a bit better in shape. But deep down, they don't actually care that much. So that's why they say stuff like, I just want to get in shape a bit. But they don't. They're not willing to put a date to it. They're not willing to put any kind of markers on it, because it puts pressure on it. So guys, what I want you to really think about doing, man, is get so specific. Like, get dates on it. Get fucking metrics. Like, know when it's happening. Know how it's happening. And then you can reverse engineer it from there, guys. Because it's something that I used to, like, always kind of hate for me. We can take back to my first ever half marathon as well, guys. Like, I just want to do it. Like, I just want to get it done. And I'll be honest, guys. Like, my training for that was a load of shit. Like, genuinely a load of shit. And then to touch on this as well, guys. Like, some of you will be doing running feats, right? And it is a case of getting it done, because you've not run that distance before. Or you've not... You're not that equipped in running yet. That's completely... It's like a different story. Like, I was of a good level of fitness and had experience under my belt. And then when I went for this half marathon, I just butchered it. But as I say, guys, like, see if you set targets, you set times, you set metrics for it. You will make it happen. Do you know what I mean? But it's one of the ones, like, a lot of people get very scared of making it specific, because then they need to do the work. Do you know what I mean? Like, if you're not getting that specific on what you need and what you want to achieve, then one, you don't really know what it is you want to achieve. Or two, you're scared of what you're going to have to do to get you to achieve it. And guys, that's perfectly normal to be a bit scared of what you need to do to achieve a goal. Like, it's not meant to be easy. It's like, remember when we were talking on the Monday Reset? And we were always talking about how, like, changing your lifestyle, changing your routines and all that kind of stuff, right? And some people say to me, well, it's easy for you to say. And I'm like, it's not really. Like, it was never meant to be easy. It's hard to do this, guys. And as I'm saying, getting specific on your goals is hard, because it becomes real. So what I want you to really, really think about, man, especially off the back of this, guys, is just sit down and go, like, what is it I'm working towards right now? What actually is it, right? And when's the end date? And what I want you to do with that one as well, guys, is, like, when you see, like, it's not the case of, like, I'm working towards this end date done. Like, it doesn't work like that, guys. It's not a pure tick-box exercise. I want you to start thinking about going, like, what's next? What's after that? And again, this is where we have that forward-thinking mentality. And remember, we always talk about energy inside the program. That's how you create energy. Energy comes from momentum. Momentum comes from forward-thinking, guys. And that's where you get that boost from. That's where you constantly have that constant forward needle, pushing that needle forward through the process. So what you really, really, really need to walk away with, guys, is don't just say things for the fucking sake of saying things, man. Like, have it as specific and in line with what you want to do. Do you know what I mean? So sit and think about that one, guys. And it's something that I think a lot of us can get really, really locked into because, as I say, like, a lot of us will just say things and not really focus on, like, the metrics behind it and what actually needs to be done for it. And as I say, guys, you might be going through a wee bit of a lull where you're, like, going, do you know what? I don't actually know what it is I want to do or not. That's fine. Let's get into a call. That's fine, man. Do you know what I mean? It's like saying stuff like, I want to just lose a bit of weight. I want to just get a bit faster. I want to get a wee bit stronger. All this kind of stuff, man, like, get so specific on it that it fucking hurts. And, guys, you'll need to think about it. It's not like as if you go, I'll get to know what it is. You'll need to take half an hour, an hour maybe, and really sit and fathom it out. Do you know what I mean? And that's the difference. Like, a lot of people don't do that. They don't dedicate the time to think about it. It's like, how many of you, when you came in on your initial game plan call with me or a reset call, and I've been like, right, what's the goals for this year? And, like, you just panic. You're like, that's shit. Fuck knows, man. But that's because you haven't thought about it. But I'm not expecting the answer to come off the bat straight away. Do you know what I mean? You expect to have a wee bit of time with it. Expect to try and figure it out, and that's just sit with it. And as I get, as I say, guys, you need to get, like, ridiculously specific on it. Because, like, if it's specific, then you know what needs to be done. We can reverse engineer it. But see if it's just here saying, well, I kind of want to do this and that stuff, man. Like, you're opening yourself up for, like, excuses, reasons why not to do it. And ultimately falling short. Do you know what I mean? Because you don't even know what the actual target is, man. So, what I want you to think about today, guys, is just getting really fucking specific, man, on what you want to achieve across this year and how we're going to do it. Do you know what I mean? I want to see these energy charts getting fucking lit up today with goals, specific targets, what we want to do, man. And let's just really bring the energy, guys. I know a lot of us have, like, I think there's about, how many of us now? Ten? Ten going for the Strathclyde half marathon or 10k. And then we've got another three, four going for the Edinburgh half, guys. But what I want you to think about with that one as well, that's only, what, a month and a bit away? Six weeks away? Eight weeks? Six weeks for the guys for Strathclyde and then eight, nine weeks for the guys for me. But guys, I want you to think beyond this as well, right? Because it's very good that you've got that specific target right now. But I want you to think beyond that. Like, what is it? Because see, off the back of, a lot of you will be doing your first event with this, right? Off the back of that, you're going to be getting a lot of momentum and I want you to carry that forward. I think it was Thomas I was talking to about this and I was like, see the person that crosses this line? It's going to be someone who's just got forward momentum and is just excited for the future. So harness it, guys. I want you to have a rough idea in your head of what you want to do next. And then as well, guys, we've got a lot of you going in terms of your re-compositions. I need you to purely write. We've got a date set for when this is getting picked off, man. Let's fucking send it. Now, we've got a lot of you going into the next levels. A lot of you guys pushing through. Pushing through the barriers. A lot of them, I believe, are getting broken down here as well, guys. And then I know off the back of me doing that at the weekend, I know a lot of you are now interested in high rocks, guys. So sit and have a think about it, man. What is it? What's the targets? What's the goals, man? And what I want you to really think about is, like, what's going to give me that fire in my belly throughout this full year? Talking again about the runners, guys. Yous are about to obviously tick off that in May. It's just going into the second quarter of the year. We've still got Q3 and Q4. Like, what else can be achieved, guys? And again, I just want you to get very, very specific about it. And see if you've got a crazy idea. Like, something mental. The Alar Wolf. I don't know. Run it past us, man. And let's start fathoming it. Because as I say, guys, like, going the extra mile, there needs to be a level of nerves in there. There needs to be something scary, something uncomfortable. And again, what I want you to leave yous with, guys, is, like, nothing good ever comes from the comfort zone. Always remember that. The most growth will come the more you seek discomfort, guys. So, more over this wee 10 minutes here, get so fucking specific that you just can't fail. Okay? Peace!
