Keith and I discuss animal abuse on our podcast. We talk about the alarming number of abused animals, with dogs being the most common victims. Reptiles also suffer due to their inability to adapt to new environments. We discuss signs of abuse, such as physical injuries and poor health. We debate whether the treatment of farm animals constitutes abuse. We also touch on the lack of reporting and government involvement. Trauma and abuse are often linked, and children who are abused are more likely to abuse animals. Overall, we emphasize the need for awareness and action to address animal abuse. Yo, welcome to Keith and I's podcast so today we are going to talk about animal abuse It's a real touchy subject if uh you got uh abused animals you've ever seen or ever heard of get the tissues because it's going to be a sad topic you know we don't like to talk about stuff like this but this is stuff we got to talk about because it's happening in the world right now you know this is a touchy subject all right I don't even want to really talk about it but hey hey somebody got to do it you know okay so Keith how are you feeling today though how are you feeling I'm doing feeling great how are you feeling how are you doing today I told you I'm feeling a little sad we talk about animal abuse what do you have to bring to the table well first thing I researched uh you know animal card donation the website yeah right I looked it up and everything I did some research you know and I read a quote and it said in the united united states alone 10 million animals are abused to death each year you know yeah I was on that article too and it says that um like 65 percent of animals like that are abused is dogs you know I think that makes sense but like I don't know I mean it does because like they're pets and like pets get abused more and on that topic um reptiles basically they said that like 75 percent of reptiles die within a year the first year of becoming a pet because they're not like adapted to the new habitat that's crazy that is crazy what you think about that you know I don't know dogs being abused you know I don't want to be a person but I know like I don't know if you ever see things on instagram like like abuse animals or whatnot things happening in like different foreign countries or whatnot it's all over social media now it's crazy and sometimes I just be like it'd be so crazy after like show my mom and stuff she'd be like oh my god and whatnot I just yo it's not just be feeling appalled bro it's just crazy yeah so I've seen on some website that like you can like even like spot out like when an animal's getting abused like if you go to people's houses and stuff like that you could like like basically if their fur is like messed up or dirty they have open sores or like wounds that are very very obvious they're limping and stuff like that all the time and that means that that's a red flag to an animal abuse also like if they look skinny not not eating enough not drinking enough water look hydrated breathing heavy and stuff like that like that shows that they're getting abused too I don't know I ain't gonna lie to you I'm not I don't think I would be the type of person to to want to intervene but I don't know I don't know if I see an animal that's real bad shape or whatnot I think maybe now I gotta do better yeah so also I wrote down I also yeah no I feel like what you're saying like about do better like it's an eye-opener now like now that like you did the research and stuff like that like we've seen that oh yeah yeah like definitely like we could we could point that stuff out like like you know I mean we don't really gotta say nothing I mean it's good to speak up but like we can see it trying to help ways or try to encourage people to do better definitely right another thing I also looked up is uh that I found out my fault about think about like farm animals you know like pigs cows yeah chicken or whatnot yeah like I got a question for you though would you consider that like abuse because you don't like chicken pigs you know that's like a site that's huge resources for us everything I mean they kind of like it is abuse in the way that they're killing them alive and then we're eating them but I mean it's kind of like life really because if we can't eat or you know we're only eating certain stuff like some people need to eat meat some people need because they're too skinny unhealthy and stuff like that like exactly so it's different yeah it just depends really on the I don't know like it doesn't depend but it like has a it varies like yeah it's a positive effect like if we don't kill animals or like abuse animals then we we won't eat I feel the same way personally I'm not gonna stop eating cheeseburgers all right get a 2b at mcdonald's I swear I'm not gonna lie we're at mcdonald's I definitely look this is a comfortable space I can get a 2b with with big macs on sometimes maybe maybe with some bacon on you know like I'll be dogging it out you know I'm a chubby I'm a chubby man for a reason I like to eat pause me but you know I like chicken I like I like all that stuff right and I don't know if I want to cut back but because I feel like I just gotta dig into the more like of what I'm eating and like how many times I'm eating because like all right say you're eating mcdonald's all the time and then you eat a home cooked meal once a day that's not healthy but like if you're if you're eating a home cooked meal three four times a day a week and then you have mcdonald's here and there that's that's better like you're yeah you're equaling out having salads here and there throughout the week that's being more healthy and honestly it's changing it honestly is changing about animal abuse because if you're changing of what you're eating then less animals are getting abused what else we got what else I found something on um petpedia and it says that like thousands of animals are abused are thousands of animals are abused cause to like like being like reported and stuff like that like like I mean deported like shipped and they like they got over yeah that's terrible yeah yeah and that like it doesn't get brought to light yeah like nothing a lot of cases don't get brought to like and I think I could be wrong and it's about it might sound crazy I think a lot of that has to do with like government also yeah I feel like a lot of times they try to sweep that under the rug and not try to I feel like there's a lot of things that the government is doing especially with like animal abuse or whatnot because I feel like they don't want to make uh America like individually like look bad but you know like a lot like like how we said other foreign countries like just to go back other foreign countries like as we know like there's countries like China and whatnot that abuses some animals and whatnot sometimes like even willing to eat them and whatnot and of course we'd be looking at it like it's crazy but that even happens in like I mean everybody like that's how yeah my mom used to tell me all the time like you can't judge what people are eating because they eat different in every every other state exactly I mean every other country like every even other states they don't eat like we don't eat like tasty and all that stuff like they do doubt south I've seen like when I was living in Florida I've seen people eating like eyes like fish eyes and stuff like that like different stuff like gator and whatnot yeah I see it all especially in Florida Florida Florida's a different animal yeah they're a different beast I've seen somebody here eat a snake like a python or something it was ridiculous yeah they but I found out that two types of there's actually two types of animal abuse and it's passive and um and like active cruelty so like some gets passed and like some it's like real active like some is like they're beating and stuff like that and then some is like they're just not taking care of animals and not taking care of them properly in the proper way so right you think you think right so I have like neighbors that have dogs and whatnot and they would like walk their dog and whatnot and sometimes sometimes the dog would like poop pee or whatnot but they would do it anyway and the owner wouldn't even pick it up you think that's like like a use in a way I mean it's because like it's not I mean it's not abusing the dog it's not really harming and it's not neglecting the dog if you're taking it out that's true but I also think about it I just feel like they're not being good citizens to everybody else because it's like you're leaving poop out for people to walk on and all that stuff and that's not no I also had down uh most animals abuse wasn't reported a lot of bystanders and whatnot everybody's what everybody I feel like everybody's aware of it but I don't think people know how to go about it the correct way or people hear about it so much that they're numb to it you know what I mean yeah and they just ignore it and go on about their life exactly I think I think definitely animals and it's not even just cats dogs like every every animal you know needs to need more awareness so yeah I mean they do like back in the day like when TV like everybody used to really watch like cable and stuff like that there used to be some show that was out that was really showing about how dogs are getting abused and people are going and wrestling with the dogs and taking care of the dogs into their shelter and then finding people to adopt the dogs and stuff like that so people are aware but at like it just depends like some people are scared of dogs like some people have trauma yeah like they if they do get animals they abuse them because they have trauma from something else or you know what I mean that's why it that's why it ties into like the hurt people hurt people or things because in the statistics of the um the pet pdsu it shows that it says that children that are sexually abused are five times more likely to abuse animals when they have one like if you get an animal or even mentally abused or physically abused or whatever the case is like if you're you're you have bad trauma yeah you're most likely to take that out on your end I completely agree yeah there's like a lot of people I know that have like bigger dogs with going back to my neighbors like I have like I have neighbors that have pit bulls rottweilers uh german shepherds I have not seen them walk the german shepherd once you know like I feel like with dogs like that you gotta let them move yeah that's definitely kind of abuse like that's neglect yeah you're not giving the dog the proper care that it needs and that can hurt the dog and that's where I think I was going back with like the poop and pee situation I was saying if they're neglecting that what else do you think they're neglecting behind closed doors exactly sometimes the dog can't might not even be fed or whatnot right you know or if the dog's not uh trained or whatnot or maybe the dog could even be trained what if they need to use the bathroom I feel like sometimes the owner probably be too lazy to open the door or let them go out or whatnot but yeah I don't know yeah back to the um our donations though I I've seen that um it said that like the horse industry industry has killed over like like too many too many they haven't like there's like statistics going around that like dog fights I mean not as much anymore but like a couple years ago or something like that they were getting like heavy oh yeah we got we definitely I mean I know people that still do them now like oh yeah even around here yeah we got some big names Michael Vick Michael Vick was a big one I don't know yeah he got they gamble like they play for them so like yeah no no you got a dog you think that your dog is gonna beat this dog whatever you put money down exactly whoever wins you get the money yeah you can go you can do like hard time for that so you can do a lot of time you go to jail and whatnot not because that's literally abuse yeah and then everybody yeah people no but people they try to downplay it that's what I'm saying I'm saying that like any other like if people really like go into it and get into the facts and like the details and the laws you can get in trouble for it but some people choose to ignore it because they don't see some people have different opinions on what abuse is and what abuse is exactly but they just don't understand they just haven't done the research yeah I think a lot of people try to try to fit an image too yeah you know when they try to say like you know like pit bulls rottweilers is like kind of like a black dog they try to put that like or like even not even not even just a race but like just fighting in general trying to make the bigger dogs fight and sometimes like I've had a pit bull my whole life and we literally he is the most loving dog most sweetest dog ever like he'd never was aggressive towards anybody he doesn't bite he doesn't jump like none of that like the only time he would do stuff is it like we used to make like like obstacle courses for him in my yard because she had like a half acre yard and he would just be outside with him like people just don't if you have big dogs they just don't know how to treat them yeah they only gotta end it's hard to train so that's why that's where abuse comes in too so if the animal's not listening the way they want it to or whatever the case is they like to beat on the dog i'm trying to get them to listen i didn't think about that that's true that is very true the piggyback on the dog fighting though you know like chicken fights and whatnot yeah chicken chicken fights a lot of foreign countries like jamaica i know jamaica is big on that trinidad like a lot of caribbean countries is definitely big on that on like bidding and whatnot there's a i ain't trying to go off too far i was not because i'm crazy it's crazy like it gets real deep yeah like i'm i was watching a show and honestly it's like unhealthy and sick it is it's crazy but that's just that's just like people greed and whatnot they you know they fall in love with the gambling and whatnot they fall with the money they don't care what's in their way yeah hurt anything or anybody i was watching a show this is so i don't know if you know a black cake it's on hulu yeah i heard about that it's it's literally about just like this girl in a foreign country is trying to escape and whatnot she's facing so many battles and one part that um really stood out to me was the girl's dad was into like gambling a lot and he would do a lot of chicken fights and whatnot and i feel like the abuses on the animals but it's also abuse on the family in a way too right it hurts it affects everybody because you're spending all your time with hurting animals and you don't even realize that it affects you mentally and everybody else exactly and it just i feel like it can just drive away people you know right i don't know but i also got another thing i found on fox10phoenix.com data provided by organization shows that so far in 2023 here has what we oh there have been 13,621 calls for for service animals and whatnot they're gonna use an 8.776 investigation involving animal abuse half of them that means like it's basically half of them are investigated yeah like they're not digging deep i don't even think about that no yeah exactly half of them they just gave up yeah they just don't even try to people but that's because when the police probably come to the people's house they're like no the dog is fine yeah try to sweep it on there and whatnot and i feel like cops probably they're not really trained to really know how the animal's supposed to look either if it's not like standing out like uh the dog is probably like weeping or or any animals like weeping or there's like blood or anything like that you know i don't think they're gonna respond yeah if the dog's not dying like they basically deathbed then they're not really gonna yeah they're not gonna they're not gonna do nothing about it at all and that's just back to like awareness or whatnot like no people don't be people don't be aware they don't just care because this animal is not like a person or a child yeah they kind of like take it out of the ground like he's saying yeah that's that's cool that goes into neglect like they're just people just ignore it after a while because they're like well there's nothing you can really do so then that's why dogs and reptiles and everything else animals are dying like even like all right go to back to my cousin they have so many animals they literally don't take care of them and then they end up dying like that's a huge problem because you're it's his life and you're not helping him survive or just bringing back to his natural habitat they won't die yeah like my cousin is a bunny but it's in like a small cage and he's literally like doesn't move it's like sick because it doesn't it's not in the proper it's too big to be in the little cage so right now that you say cage you know like circuses and whatnot you ever been to like the big apple circus or whatnot oh yeah the biggie biggie so so you know how like lions or whatnot sometimes elephants would not come out and do tricks and do their own little shebang and whatnot yeah you think they're probably well i heard that there have been like there have been cases like in the past or whatnot like they're being abused and whatnot because you know these animals are taken out of their environment right they're they're used to hunting and whatnot they're not used to standing up on two legs right trying to do handstands and things you know they think is yeah honestly like i feel like they're forced to do that like they don't really have a choice like they probably are getting abused too because that like they do the things that they're taught to do yeah yeah i think like the animals and then they have to travel and be stuck in cages all day it's just a lot yeah that's crazy did we touch on sea world i think we did see a little bit i feel like it's more than deeper than just like the cages oh definitely like the water i think it's all all every animal that's in there i feel like it's part of abuse because they're forced once again forced out of their natural habitat it's just not they could die faster and force away from their family and stuff like that right oh definitely and there was cases too you know i think it was like five years ago it was big samu i think i'm saying the orca's name right try to drown their train or whatnot like or animals are i don't think animals are uh vicious exactly and that's probably that probably no it was a it was a orca it was a orca it definitely gave red flags where at the workplace too because like why would the orca want to do that all of a sudden you know like it's been there for how long you know exactly yeah i think they definitely is doing some type of cruelty oh yeah yeah that's and they kill they go hunting like hunting is abuse too like yeah going out and killing animals that's that's abuse now talking about zoos i don't even really know how that works like what they are they saving the i guess they i don't know i guess they find animals bring them to the zoo for the summer for real no i've never no yeah because we have right we have a zoo in boston franklin park zoo and we had a lion that's been there my whole life but recently like died away died like three years ago and i never even thought about it like did they like rescue the lion nurture it back to health i feel like that no that that could be true like the rescue part like the reason why some animals are in zoos or you know sea world or something like that is because they're rescued yeah they get stuck in it then they they find them they help them and then they keep them in there but instead of releasing them and putting them back into the natural habitat they keep them in the in the place but to keep to make money so yeah that could also but that's definitely cool that's definitely cool g then yeah because in a way you took them out the environment now that they're better and whatnot they probably they're probably not going to be able to adapt back now they'd be being fed you know like they're throwing probably throwing steaks in there or whatnot they're not hunting or whatnot they're not really they're not doing what they would be doing out in nature they're just they're they're house lions like the house cat yeah the house animals nobody exactly everybody gets to go home by then yeah legit yeah that's crazy that's crazy i think we touched on everything ew yeah i think we got everything all right well that's animal abuse but peace for now peace
