This is Fona Radio on BD. Hello listeners, welcome to a new episode of Fona Radio. Today's topic is the problem with Mexican immigration and our question is why so many Mexicans migrate to the U.S. So in the last 20 years it has been no secret that millions of Mexicans yearly migrate into the U.S. But legal or not, this is a hefty and extremely dividing topic. So for today's episode we brought a Mexican freshman who came to the U.S. 5 years ago. So let's welcome Luis Antonio. Hello, I am Luis and I go to Princeton University. Oh, so your name is Luis and I'm Luis, okay, that's good to know. So Luis, how has your day been? Pretty good. I've been practicing for the exam in two weeks. Oh wow, and what exams are they exactly? For my medical exam it has been a tough week for me. Yeah, I can imagine that. So Luis, can you give me and the listeners an impression of your experience of traveling into the U.S. and why did you do it in the first place? Well Michael, I have to admit it was one of the most horrible experiences I had in a while. It was so stressful, I barely knew till we arrived what was actually happening. But I'm still glad I did go this way because in Mexico you don't have these kind of possibilities of education. Ah, interesting. And how is your living situation right now? You know, the average student life, you live in a small apartment outside the campus and my mother and my father, they are still in their home country. And what do you think? Is it a big problem for the U.S. that so many Mexicans are immigrating? I don't think it's a problem because even though we are a minority, we do the blue-collar jobs that many Americans are too shy to do these days, and I think we are an important part of the American economy system. If I have to say, I think many Mexicans like myself, they come here for better education or better jobs, so they maybe don't get a better job in the sense of job quality, but definitely they get paid more and they can send that money back to their families so they can have a better life there. And also, I think in general, America does have a better living standard than Mexico. For example, I have to pay one half of my earnings and my parents both have to work full hours so they can afford the rent. You know, you have been seeing these changes since Biden became president. There has been almost no deportation since then and almost, if you think about it, when Trump was president, I think almost 2 million people were deported in those years, and that's just a huge amount, but since I've been seeing the votes lately, we can expect Trump to be president next year, and that will also follow with probably the same consequences we had in his time as president before, because, as we know, the Americans, well, they don't really learn from their mistakes. That would be it. Thanks for visiting us, Louis, and thanks for listening to the end, and I hope we hear us in the next episode.
