The rite of passage in Ethiopian weddings is beneficial for preserving traditions, creating community cohesion, and fostering a sense of identity and belonging. It helps maintain a connection between generations and allows for the passing down of customs and beliefs. It also promotes bonding, support, and celebration within the community. Recognizing and celebrating this significant event helps people understand their responsibilities and place in the community. In my opinion, the rite of passage is highly beneficial for the Ethiopian wedding culture and the traditions from a human development perspective. I believe it is helpful because, first, it creates culture of preservation as we Ethiopians are able to maintain a strong connection and able to pass down traditions, customs, and beliefs from one generation to the next. Second, I believe it's helpful in creating community cohesion as we are able to bond, support, and celebrate the transition toward marriage and unity. Lastly, I believe it is helpful in creating a sense of identity and belonging by recognizing and celebrating this significant event through and around others in our culture. People are able to develop a richer understanding of their responsibilities and belonging in the community.
