The host of a podcast and his guest discuss their controversial picks for the March Madness tournament. They also make predictions for the first round games, including UConn vs. Stetson, Florida Atlantic vs. Northwestern, San Diego State vs. UAB, and more. They also discuss the controversy surrounding Michigan State's inclusion in the tournament.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 2 of Big Cam's Controversial Podcast. Now, as you know, it's March Madness time. That is right. The brackets have already been made official. I've already submitted mine. And, yes, I got some controversial picks. And they are going to get you guys cheated once I reveal them tonight. But, with this kind of podcast, I can't do it by myself. I gotta have a guest to clearly help. So, I have a guest with me today.
So you guys remember, I had Marcus Davidson as my guest for episode 1. Today, his younger brother is here. So, a warm welcome for my guest of honor, Jimmy Davidson. Man, Cam, thanks for having me on, brother. Dude, I got you. You've been my homie throughout quite a bit of freshman year of college. It's been a journey. And I can say controversial stuff to you. You've done controversial stuff to me. That's true. That's true. The controversialness...
Yeah, you can say that. The controversialness goes both ways, brother. Yup, and I'm sure you noticed it when you arrived, but I brought some snacks. I brought cinnamon rolls for the guest of honor. I got mint Oreos right in front of you. So, help yourself to it if you get hungry. Thank you, brother. But, you know it's March Madness, and this is one of my favorite times of the year. I get so competitive at this time of the year with my picks.
For sure. I think I've actually made quite a bit of controversial picks. But last year, March Madness was interesting with those shocking runs from Florida Atlantic and San Diego State. Yeah, yeah. But this year is a whole new year, and we have a whole new bracket. So, I'm sure everyone was probably just watching at home, but Wagner has defeated Howard in an incredible game. I was actually just watching it. I saw that. Howard had three opportunities at the end to force that to overtime.
They literally had three near comebacks, but all of them were spoiled by Wagner. So, Wagner advances and is now playing North Carolina in round one. And then Colorado State and Virginia is going at tonight. Winner plays Texas, and then we have two more games tomorrow. Grambling faces Montana State, and Colorado takes on Boise State. Before we jump into the main bracket, let's go ahead and just make our picks. Just go through the first four real quick.
Who were your picks for tonight? Tonight, I got my money on the Rams. I think their offense is much more lethal than that of the Virginia Cavaliers, and I think they're going to pull it out. That's actually not great. That's a good pick and a good argument. Plus, they've actually been in the top 25 this season, but Virginia is historic. They've won national titles, but I feel like something's just off about the Rams. I mean, I respect them this season, but let's be real.
I'm going with the Cavs. Oh, man. We're starting off with a disagreement, man. You know it. Plus, I like Virginia basketball. They're actually a unique team. I, of course, picked Howard to beat Wagner, but that didn't happen. As for tomorrow, I'm going with Grambling over Montana State, and I'm going with Colorado over Boise State. Hey, look at that. We're both agreeing on both those games tomorrow. Absolutely. So, now, without further ado, let's get into the real controversy.
Let's go. Let's go. So, all right. So, for round one, let's begin. We got UConn playing Stetson. Of course, I think it's obvious who everyone and pretty much all America is picking. Don't you agree? I do agree. I am a controversial man, but not on this one. No, it's pretty—again, UConn is a heavy favorite. They just won the title last year with the blowout over San Diego State. I think they might have something in store this year.
So, yeah, gimme Huskies. Yeah. Florida Atlantic, who made the Final Four board run last year, is playing Northwestern. The eight-seeded Owls and the nine-seeded Wildcats. Now, this is a good matchup. I really like both these teams. However, I do have the Owls advancing. I think Boo Booey is incredible. I think Northwestern's a great team. But, man, I mean, this is a heck of a first-round matchup, especially for an 8-9 game. So, both great teams, and I'll be happy either way, but I have the Owls.
How about you? Interesting, but you said Boo Booey. Well, let me just say this. Boo. No, no, no. I like Florida Atlantic, but Northwestern has been special, very special this year. I mean, do you remember both their games with Purdue? They put on some bangers. Yes, I was at the game when they played at Purdue, and that was a heck of a game. The fact you got to go to the game is lucky. I never get to do stuff like that because I'm not as rich as you.
No, I don't pay for it. Oh, give me a break. Who pays for it, your mommy or your daddy? Exactly. I got friends on the team. You got a friend on the team. If you call a friend on the team, he'll give you free tickets. Might have to consider that one. Who knows? Might talk to him about it next year. Good call. But I'm going Northwestern or Florida Atlantic. Really? So why'd you Boo Boo Booey? I just wanted to say that because his name is Boo.
Oh, okay, okay. But he is good. Yep. All right, so we got San Diego State, the runner-ups looking for redemption, playing UAB in round one. I got San Diego State. I'm going with the Aztecs, too. Auburn versus Yale. Tim? Give me the Titus of Auburn. I agree with that one, man. They got a good squad over there. They could make a deep run. They're a dangerous team. How about BYU and Duquette going at it? My initial gut reaction, I'm not a huge fan of BYU.
However, I did some research. They got a good squad this year. BYU, lock it in. BYU, definitely. Now, there has definitely been some controversy with this one. I think it's definitely going to kick in with you because I know this is your hometown school. Yes, sir. The Fighting Illini and the Moorhead State Eagles. I don't even need to ask you for your pick for this one. That's true. Give me the Illini by 40. I'm going Illini.
Okay, now this one, I think there's definitely going to start being some controversy. Washington State versus Drake. Oh, this is a good matchup. There's been a lot of buzz about this one. I'm going to go Drake. They just won their conference tournament and beat a great Indiana State team in the conference championship. This Drake team is special. Give me Drake. Absolutely like that. I feel bad because you mentioned Indiana State. I feel bad. In my opinion, I feel like they were personally robbed out of March Madness, I feel like.
I have a friend who personally disagrees with me on that statement, but we're going to argue that later in a future podcast. We'll get to that another day. That and I also have a friend, one of my high school friends who's a senior now, is actually an Indiana State commit. She committed there for softball. Really? Congratulations to her on your commitment to Indiana State. Go Sycamores. Time out. Will you ever get another senior friend of yours from high school on this podcast? Flory Badunga.
That would be awesome. That would be amazing. But that's going to be impossible, especially since he's going off to Kansas, which speaking of Kansas, we'll be getting to that in a little bit. But as for the Cougs and the Dawgs, give me the Dawgs and Drake. Yes, sir. How about Iowa State and South Dakota State in round one? This is a good game. It's an interesting one. Think about it. South Dakota State actually has some pretty impressive stats.
They do. They do. However, on this one, I'm going to say give me the sure thing. Big 12 tournament champs, Iowa State Cyclones. Go with the Cyclones. I like that. I'm going Cyclones, too. On to the next region, huh? That is correct. First up, North Carolina. It is official. They are now set to play Wagner coming off their impressive win against Howard. Wagner is a good team, but UNC is a different level. Give me the total.
Exactly. I actually love North Carolina. I've got to visit them before, so give me the Tar Heels. Now, here's the game that's going to officially kick off the whole March Madness-ness drama on Thursday afternoon, 12-15 p.m., Mississippi State, Michigan State. I don't even have to comment on this one because it's obviously what I'm going with. Give me my Izzo and give me my Spartans. Pam, you are speaking my language over there, brother. I love Tom Izzo.
I love the Michigan State Spartans. Dangerous team. Spartans. I mean, but we also got to think for a second, though. Now we're just talking about Michigan State. There's been quite some hate comments on social media when the bracket was announced that Michigan State should have been out of the tournament because they had a down year, but they somehow got in because everyone believes they're getting the Izzo treatment. Now, 26 consecutive tournaments. That's impressive. And Izzo is one of the winningest coaches of all time.
Yeah. I mean, he's on. Now, that's a controversy. That's a controversy sound. Uh-oh. What's happening? You know what? Time for a controversial statement. I personally think Coach Izzo is on the level of Coach K. Oh, Pam. I disagree with that statement because I think Izzo's higher. What? Are you going back on me? Someone make sure I actually get a controversial buzzer. Every time I'm ready to say something controversial, I have the buzzer ready. Hammer that thing.
Now, Pam, we're sitting here watching this game. I told you. This Virginia offense is brutal. This is almost four minutes into the game, they got two points. Now, they've allowed zero. Colorado State, I mean, the defenses are also strong starting early going with the Rams and Cavs. True. Maybe a little March Madness jitters, maybe. Absolutely. Yeah. Now, going back into round one, this game has been rumored to be the game to watch for round one. And I'm talking about the fifth seeded St.
Mary's and the 12th seeded Grand Canyon Antelopes. This is going to be a good game. This is actually a tough one to predict because they're both good schools. But let's be clear about something. Grand Canyon, this has probably been their best season in I don't even know how long, if not possibly ever. Mm-hmm. I keep up with their highlights quite a bit, actually, because I've heard some very unique things about them. They're actually nice. Mm-hmm. I have two words for you, Pam.
Lope up. Oh, my. He's going with the lopes. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. I'm going to follow on that little trend of yours. Let's go. Next up, Alabama and Charleston. I got to go Bama. They have the second best offense in the nation per Ken Pom. And I don't think the opposition will be able to keep up with that pace. I can't really argue too much about it, so give me Bama. Now this one, even I'm actually struggling to still kind of make my final pick on this one because I have to watch it myself to see it.
Mm-hmm. Alabama and Charleston and New Mexico. Hmm. This is a good matchup. I got a funny feeling it's going to be New Mexico advancing. How about you, Pam? I feel like either I'm on drugs or something. I don't know. And no, I'm not advertising drug use. I'm not a drug person, all right? But I do respect New Mexico. This season has been something unique. Mm-hmm. But I got to go with the Tigers, the Crimson. Wow. Okay.
Come on. We'll see how that one unfolds. Next up, the Baylor Bears and Colgate. I don't have to really argue about this one. Give me the Bears. Yeah, I'm with you. Scott Drew's got a great thing going there. They're going to win. This one is actually, in my opinion, has the potential to be one of those wildcard breakout games. Okay. Dayton Flyers and the Nevada Wolfpack. Ooh. I got the Flyers. Ooh. I like their squad ever since the days of Obie Toppin.
Remember him? Oh, Obie Toppin is something special. Yes, he is. Yes, he is. They're both unique programs. They really are. I mean, I've been going back and forth for a while since the bracket came out. Should I go Dayton? Should I go Nevada? Should I go Flyers? Wolfpack? I mean, this is one of the harder ones in my opinion, but you know what? Give me the Flyers. Let's go. Let's go, Cam. And then next up, Arizona and Long Beach.
Zona. Yep, no doubt. Sometimes, you know, kiss, Cam. Keep it simple, sweetie. Oh, gosh. We are not promoting same-sex marriage on here either. We are not doing that, even though, don't get me wrong, we're going to get a little controversial. I do support and respect people who love, you know, the same sex. I have some gay and lesbian friends at home and stuff. I do. You cannot blame me for that, okay? You cannot blame me at all.
Now we're going to go to the other side of the bracket. First up, Houston versus Longwood. Cougars. Easily. Now this one, I'm hoping for a good decimation. Nebraska versus Texas A&M. Cornhuskers. Let's go. I'm definitely going with the herd. Really? Yep, of Nebraska. Texas A&M, in my opinion, should not even be in March Madness. Wow. I feel like they just got some sort of treatment. Okay. I feel like if someone truly should deserve getting in, Indiana State.
Yeah. St. John. St. John got snubbed. I agree. Seton Hall and Providence. Yeah. Now. I feel bad. Have you seen that Tominga guy from Nebraska? Oh, yes. He is legit. Now that I even mention the Friars, I feel bad, because that one Providence player did not take it, saying that the selection committee was absolute BS. He was not happy about it at all. Right? There's always next year. Yeah. Now I'm looking forward to this one. I think there's a, all I'm going to say is, I think it's time for a Cinderella story from this group.
Ooh, okay. And I'm talking about James Madison versus Wisconsin. Now, I watched the entire Big Ten tournament. I watched Wisconsin play Purdue last Sunday. Yep. Wisconsin is playing really good basketball. And I've seen Wisconsin play Illinois. Mm-hmm. They're playing very, very good basketball, and I'm a Big Ten fan, so I wouldn't mind if they advanced. But JMU, I think they're the most under-seeded team in the bracket. Whoop. They are 31-3. They beat Michigan State earlier this season.
Yep, season opener. And they are legit. Give me JMU. Oh, my. He is a true royalty right there. And that is good. James Madison has been special for a reason. Mm-hmm. I mean, their football program, their basketball programs, at the same time are having historic seasons. That's what I can't even think about. Mm-hmm. Give me the Dukes. Let's go, man. This one I think could be it. You know what? We'll just jump right to it because I'm going to say this one.
Duke versus Vermont. Vermont. I get this is a 13-over-4 upset. However, I've watched this Duke team a couple times this year, and I just don't think they got that X factor this year. I'm not a big Filipowski fan. I think Roach is good. I like Roach. I think Roach is pretty good. But John Shire is pretty unproven so far. I'm going to go with Vermont. Okay. Not bad. Sam? I'm going to say controversial time. That's true.
That is a bold take. You're the only person that has actually said out of everyone I've asked that's actually going to pick Vermont over Duke. And I don't blame you. Vermont is actually good. My coach Corso says, not so fast. We still cannot count on Duke. Yes, they're not staying with Coach Gaygon, but I haven't lost my faith in them just yet. Blue Devils. That's fair. That's fair. Texas Tech. Did you see that whole storming fiasco? Oh, I assume with Duke versus Wake Forest.
That kind of turned me off to Duke. It's understandable. I think that also kind of has me concerned about just the whole court storming in general, which I'll definitely have to dive into that in a future podcast. That will be a controversial one. It really could be if I can find the right person who's really noticed the issue. It's been a thing for a while. How about Texas Tech and NC State? Give me the wolf pack.
I'm going for the upset too. Let's go. NC State. Their center is a monster, man. He is a beast. The Wildcats of Kentucky versus the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland. Kentucky. Rob Dillingham is special. I'm excited that Oakland's actually in March Madness because I watched their program, and they're actually pretty solid, but they're not going to look so golden in March Madness. Give me Kentucky. Yep. Now, Florida is going to be playing the winner of tomorrow night's game between Boise State and Colorado.
I already picked Colorado, but either way, I still got Florida winning. Okay. I have Colorado winning that one game. Really? I do. Florida, did you see they lost their big guy Saturday or Sunday? Well, y'all better be saying your prayers because… Chomp, chomp. Chomp, chomp is right. I'm teaming up with Albert and Alberta for this one. Yep. And we got Marquette and Western Kentucky. Western Kentucky. What? Lock it in, Ken. Now, that's a controversial hot take right there, ladies and gentlemen.
Hey, hear me out. Hear me out. Marquette, they're a little banged up right now. Colac has been in and out. A couple other stars have been in and out. They've been pretty highly rated the last two years I haven't made a bunch of noise in March. And this Western Kentucky team, fastest pace in the nation. They're going to get up and down on the Golden Eagles. And I'll tell you what, they're going to shoot down the Eagles, Ken.
Oh, my. That's a proud man right there. Or no longer. I'll give you credit. I like your confidence. But I'm still soaring with the Golden Eagles. Okay. Okay. All right. And then we're now in the final region of the first round. We got Purdue versus the winner of the Montana State in Grambling Game tomorrow. I'm not going to mention anything because I got Purdue either way. Boiler up. Amen. That's where my good brother, Jace, railed. Yes, sir.
Good luck in your first March Madness, bro. If you bring home a national title, who knows? I might have a special something stored for you. Oh, baby. Utah State versus TCU. Horned Frog, let's go. I'm going with you on that one. Now, this one, there's been a bit of some controversy. But we're going to dive into that. Gonzaga versus McNeese. Give me McNeese. Now, I might be a little biased on this one. I'll be honest. I'm not the biggest Gonzaga fan.
But give me McNeese. Ken. I got to go with the dogs on this one. Now, here's where we're really going to get heated. Oh, baby. Kansas and Samford. Give me the Jayhawks. Give me the Jayhawks. Rock Chalk Jayhawks. Jayhawks win. Peace. I'm actually excited for this matchup. South Carolina and Oregon. I'm very confident on this one. South Carolina. I say South Carolina, too. They got a talented team, man. And speaking of South Carolina, good luck to their women's team.
And congratulations on a perfect season. Whoa, whoa. Perfect regular season. True there. If they can actually win a national title, then that might possibly be the greatest women's team of all time. Wow. There's a controversial take. Hey, I don't know. Better than some of Geno's teams at UConn with Brittany Griner. No, she went to Baylor, I guess. We'll never know the answer. The true answer. I'm not that smart. Don't worry. Good point. Good point. Texas versus Akron.
I like what the Zips bring to the table, but give me credit. Absolutely. Their offense is good. Next up, Texas is set to play the winner of tonight's game between the Rams and the Cavs either way. Hook them horns. Amen, brother. And in the final matchup of round number one, Tennessee has the potential Cinderella story of St. Peter's. Man. And who you got? St. Peter's Cinderella story was special, but sorry, guys. Sorry, boys. Not this year.
I'm going with the Bulls. I'm with you. They got a good team over there. All right. Now we're ready for round two. Versus UConn, but we have different opinions. You say UConn versus Florida Atlantic. I say Northwestern. Yeah. No, I think we can both agree, though, it's going to be UConn advancing. Oh, indefinitely. Yeah, they got a special squad. San Diego State versus Auburn. This is a great matchup. Probably one of the better second-round matchups. I like the experience the SDSU brings.
However, I'm going to go with the Tigers. Amen on that one. BYU versus Illinois. Man, this is too easy. Illinois, definitely. I-L-L. So far, I'm with you on all those picks. Mm-hmm. Now we're going to get controversial here. Uh-oh. The Bulldogs of Drake and the Cyclones of Iowa State. What do you got? Here we go, baby. Give me Drake. Let's go. I'm telling you. You cannot count out the Cyclones of Iowa State, bro. That's true. You can't, but you know what? All six losses this year for them, away from home.
So, at home, they're special. On the road, you never know what might happen. But they're not really going to be at home at all. This is a much better spot. Yeah, exactly. And they had a pretty weak non-conference schedule. This is a tough one, but I'm going for the upset. Yes, go, Ken. Let's go, baby. Next up, North Carolina and Michigan State. I love you, Coach Izzo, but I'm sorry. I got to go with Ramsey and the Tar Heels.
Wow, okay. This is a great matchup. A couple of blue bloods here. Two of the greatest basketball schools in all of America. That's true. That's true. Give me Michigan State. Call me crazy. Give me Michigan State. I love your guts. Yep. All right, next up, Grand Canyon versus Alabama. I like what GCU brings, however. They bring some unique aspects and some unique creativity. True. To the table in this matchup. I'm going to go with Bama. How about you? Roll tide for that one.
I mean, I have one of my friends from high school who actually goes to Alabama. Wow. Shout out to her, by the way. Yeah. I mean, I respect Bama and what they bring, but not so fast, sweetheart. I'm going to Lopa. Wow, really? I'm feeling confident. I like that. I disagree, but I like that. All right, so now we're going different on this one. Baylor versus Clemson, New Mexico. I say Baylor versus Clemson in round two, but I'm still going with the Bears for the Sweet 16.
And here's another hot take. New Mexico advancing to the Sweet 16. Stop. They are. Baylor's strength is three-point shooting. However, New Mexico is top ten in allowed three-point percentage. How about Arizona's second round matchup? Who do they have? You picked Nevada, didn't you? Against who? Arizona. You picked Nevada over Dayton. I went Dayton. Same here, but I'm still going with Arizona. Arizona. I'm with you, Zona. Now to the other side of the bracket. Mm-hmm. First up, Houston and the Huskers.
I like Nebraska a lot, love the Big Ten, but Houston's a different level. Absolutely. James Madison versus, well, in your case, Vermont. Mm-hmm. But for me, Duke. Go ahead. Give me James Madison. Let's go, Cam. We are together on that one. James Madison, Sweet 16, book it. Let's do it. NC State versus Kentucky. Great matchup. I love NC State's little Cinderella run here, but I think Kentucky will get them. Man, I do love the Wolfpack. Their ACC run was incredible to watch, and all I could literally do after doing that, and we do this at the start of every Werewolf game, every Wednesday, all the time.
A good old, ooh. But in this case, for this game, the only noise I'm going to be making is, Give me Kentucky. Good call, good call. Florida versus, in your case, Western Kentucky, but for me, Marquette. And here's where it gets hypin' hot. Bring me that controversial horn. Oh, you got it, R.I. Western Kentucky. Oh, my gosh. The 15th seed the last three years has made the Sweet 16. Western Kentucky's about to make it four straight.
I like your guts, but I'm going Marquette. That's fair. Purdue versus GCU. Boiler up. Let's go. Yep, I'm on the train. Gonzaga versus Kansas. Well, maybe you should pick McNeese. I have McNeese v. Kansas. Another one coming up. McNeese. Did you see just tonight? The horn is going to break for that one. McCuller, their best player probably, Kansas, ruled out for the tournament. Yep, I just read that. That's a big blow to the Jayhawks. But I still think Kansas can pull through, so I'm still going to go Kansas for now.
Okay, okay. How about South Carolina and Creighton? Here's another one. People are high on Creighton. I really, really like the South Carolina team. South Carolina. I'm going Creighton on this one. I'll give them the blue jays. And finally, Texas versus Tennessee. Tennessee. Bulls all day. Good battle of the orange teams, though, right there. Oh, yes, definitely. Now we're off to the Sweet 16. Let's go. First up on this list, UConn versus Auburn. I've been singing Auburn's praises.
They've got a great team, but UConn is at another level. Absolutely. I've got to go with the dogs on this one. Now how about Illinois versus Drake? We both have Illinois Drake. I respect that. But all Cinderella stories don't last forever. Illinois. Yes, sir. North Carolina versus Grand Canyon. Wow, so we're completely different. I have Michigan State Bama. You go ahead. I love Grand Canyon's Cinderella story this year. I think they can really bring something unique and creative to March Madness this year.
Last year, they were in it, but they got their butts kicked by Onondaga. I think they'll make it to the Sweet 16. Sweet 16, their dancing time runs out. The flame is extinguished. Strobe lights are out. Disco ball ain't rotating anymore. That is right. North Carolina keeps on dancing. And then for you? I have Michigan State v. Bama. Michigan State. Wow. I'm a big believer. They have a crazy talented roster. They haven't quite put it together yet this year.
But I think come March, they're going to be a very, very tough team to beat. You're insane for that one. All right. Baylor versus Arizona. I actually have New Mexico Arizona. Cam, as you were just saying, all Cinderella stories must come to an end. Zona. Agreed. And now off to the other side. First up, the Cougars of Houston and the Dukes of James Madison. I sound like a broken record here, Cam, but all Cinderella stories end at some point.
Unfortunately, they do. Houston's defense is suffocating. They crash the O-boards like madmen. Cougars. Agreed. They're going to keep on roaring and they're going to keep on scratching. Yep, yep. Precisely. Kentucky versus Marquette. I have Western Kentucky making that little run. You got them going for her? I do not. Kentucky. Rob Dillingham, Reed Shepard, Reeves. They got a great team. Coach Cal. Kentucky. I say Kentucky as well. Last region of the Sweet 16 here, Cam. First up, Purdue and Kansas.
That's what I had. What was yours today? Purdue-McNeese. You go first. Give me the boilers, man. Their size is just going to overwhelm McNeese. Zachy, he's going to have a field day. Caleb first, if you're listening. Going to have a field day. Purdue. Not bad, not bad. Reed. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. You know what that means, ladies and gentlemen. Purdue is definitely special this year. With Zach Eady, Lance Jones, all that incredible talent. But there's a problem. And I'm sure everyone knows it.
Can you really trust Purdue's confidence in March Madness after all the years of choking and suffering, especially in the first round loss to FDU? This is a valid concern, Cam. You bring a valid point up. But look at Kansas. They may have still lost their one of their star players, but they still have a very confident Phil South to deal with. True. Everyone. You're turning your back on your buddy, Jace, huh? I love you, brother, with all my heart.
We may have graduated together, but I have to turn on you for this one. Purdue fans, you can hate me all you want. Everyone can hate me for this, but I got canceled over Purdue in 2016. Wow, okay. I'm going to get some hate for this. But March Madness is only a one-year thing. True, true. And finally, Creighton and Tennessee. I have South Carolina, Tennessee. Nice little SEC matchup there for me. Tennessee, they got a good squad, good squad.
I'm going Creighton on this one, actually. I'm going for the big East this year. Okay, okay. Now we can get heated. Round of eight. This one, I think, might get sad for you. UConn and Illinois. Cam. I'm going to let you have the floor on this one. I'm going to be honest. I wasn't 100% pleased when I saw the bracket and Illinois was in the same region as UConn. I think UConn, let's be honest, they're the team to beat.
Reigning champs. Haven't skipped a beat yet this year. With that being said, give me the Fighting Illini. We are flaming hot. Won the Big Ten tournament. We got two players with over 2,000 career points. Only team in the nation with that. Give me Illinois. We're versatile. We can score from all three levels. We got five dudes that can shoot. Versus Island Defense. Give me Illinois. You're really going Illinois over UConn? I am. I love your confidence, brother, but now this is where I'm going to have to turn on you.
Give me the Huskies. We shall see in a couple weeks. North Carolina and Arizona. I got Michigan State v. Zona. This is going to be a heck of a game. I like the team Zona's got. Caleb Love, one of the most talented players in the nation. But give me Izzo. Another Final Four appearance for the Spartans. I believe that would be Izzo's 10th, and Izzo is the man come March. I swear I must be doing drugs or something.
I'm going Arizona. On the other side, first up, Houston v. Kentucky. This is the first one we agree on. Who you got? Houston, easily. I'm with you. I'm with you. I feel like I just cannot really bet against them right now. And then we got Kansas squaring off with Creighton. Wow, we got old Purdue here, Cam. I got Purdue v. Tennessee. I love you, Boilers. Uh-oh. I love you. Is it time? But I think it's time.
I'm afraid. Dang. I want y'all to win the whole dang thing, but if I was a betting man, I think the Volunteers might go. You're going Vols. I am going to go Vols to the Final Four. Not bad, but I'm kind of going to stop you down your tracks because I'm going with Creighton. Wow, okay. And now we have reached the Final Four. Before we make our predictions, let's go through and at least announce what our Final Fours are.
Jimmy, you go first. Share your Final Four and your predictions. On the left side of the bracket, I got the Big Ten matchup, Illinois-Michigan State. Two great programs, love both of them. On the right side, Houston and Tennessee, two of the best teams the entire season. Sweet. Those are some good picks. I appreciate that, Cam. Now, questions. Who do you have winning the Final Four? I got Illinois over the Spartans. As I said, Michigan State, great squad.
Illinois I think is a little more versatile, a lot more shooting. I think the Illini are going to get them. Houston-Tennessee, this would be one heck of a game. That will be on the returning matchup. That's true. On the right side of the bracket. But I think the defense of Houston is just too much. They just pressure the snot out of you. I'm going to go Houston to the National Championship game. Good pick. So now, Cam, the National Championship game.
We will get to that. Oh, yes, you first. Momentarily. So for my Final Four, on the left side, I got the Huskies of UConn and Arizona Wildcats. I think it can really go down as an absolute banger of all March Madness. Yes. But if you want me to be real, just for my trust of gut. Yes. Give me UConn. That's a fair opinion. And on the other side, I got the Blue Jays of Creighton, representing the Big East as well, facing off with Houston.
Wow. I would love to see a Big East take over for the National title. Wow. I think it would be sweet, but let's face reality. It's not going to happen. Give me the Cougars. That would be an interesting game. That would be a contrast of styles between Creighton and Houston. And now it comes down to this. Let's hear what you got. National Championship game, and I will also even announce my prediction for the score. Wow. I got UConn versus Houston.
These are two of the best. UConn, they're the highest-seeded team overall in the whole tournament. They're number one. They're number one. I believe Houston is number three or number two. Because I know North Carolina is number four. Yeah. I think it's going to be a fun showdown to see UConn repeat. It won't be an easy matchup. It's going to be a back-and-forth fight. It's a battle between dog and cat. Normally, it's dog's way. Will UConn beat Houston in this case? I say yes.
Oh. I say UConn repeats. Wow. Two-time back-to-back national champions, 77-73. UConn Huskies, back-to-back champs. Wow, Cam. You know what? I got to applaud you. That's a heck of a bracket. Heck of a bracket. However, I disagree. Uh-oh. The fighting Illini of Illinois versus the Cougars of Houston. This would be an amazing game. Incredible athletes, incredible skill. Long way for both of them. All the fighting, all the adversity. Exactly. Exactly. I got to go with Illinois. Oh, I'm not surprised.
Call me a homer. My dad played there. I'm from Illinois. I love the state, but I got to go Illinois. I'm not surprised with your pick, and I actually do like your confidence for that one because Illinois is actually a solid basketball program. They really are. I appreciate that, Cam. Yeah, we got the most Big Ten regular season and Big Ten tournament wins the last five years. That is why Illinois is very creative with what they do, and they're actually as good as they are.
You know they still have some competition in the Big Ten on them, like Purdue, Wisconsin, and I think there's going to be some potential contenders, people getting back in the race hopefully down the road, like who knows, Rutgers, Nebraska, Michigan State, Indiana. What about Michigan? Who are they going to hire, Cam? I honestly do not know. That is going to be a tough one. I would love to see Michigan and Penn State get back in that race, but I don't know if I see it any soon.
How about Rutgers? Have you seen their recruits? I've heard some positive things about Rutgers, about Rutgers as of late actually. They've got the number two and number three players in the nation coming in next year. So Rutgers could potentially make some noise. Watch out for them. Absolutely. And then I just figured, figured, because I think there's a lot of controversy about a lot of the snubs. Who do you think was robbed in the most painful? Who do you think took the biggest robbery in the March Madness election? I think St.
John's is my answer. St. John's. St. John's had a really good team, 25th in Ken Palm. I mean, if you're the 25th best team in the nation, you've got to be in. You've got to get in that large a bid. Cam, here we go. I'm going to refute your claim of Indiana State. Oh, really? I get their record was good. I get they were a fun team to watch. However, they were one and four against quad one teams.
Oh, gosh. Here we go with this crap again. And they had a quad four loss. I like the Sycamores, the alma mater of the great Larry Bird. However, I think the committee got that one right. I swear. I am going to be banging my head on the piano after this. That, I swear. The fact everyone literally is thinking that way is completely insane. I still feel like they were robbed, but in my opinion, was it the biggest snub? Yeah.
No. I don't think so. Quite a bit of people I feel like were snubbed. Indiana State, snubbed. St. John's, snubbed. Seton Hall, snubbed. But in my opinion, I feel like the biggest one was the Providence Friars. I feel like they honestly should have gotten in. Yeah. They actually are a solid Big East team. Okay. They just don't get enough credit. They've got the passion. They've got the fans. They've got the ability to go out there and just ball out.
And yet they don't get that moment of glory at all. Yeah. You're just a Big East fan, huh, Cam? I actually do like the Big East. There's some pretty unique programs there. You've got boys like Seton Hall, UConn, Creighton. You've got Providence in there. Marquette. Yeah. But who knows? Maybe some of the other Big East schools can potentially rise back up to the occasion. I want Butler to get back in the mix. Absolutely. I mean, that's why I'm glad we're in the Big East, because I was about to ask for the biggest disappointment of all college basketball, and I was actually going to say for that answer, Villanova.
Oh, yes. I was pretty disappointed. They're always one of those big contenders every year. It's like this year, everything just fell apart. Yeah. Ever since Jay Wright left, they haven't been the same. Oh, absolutely not. I don't know if they're going to be back the same anytime soon right now. Yeah. Yeah. I'd have to go Michigan for my biggest disappointment. I know nobody expected them to be world leaders this year, but to go 8-24, that was just an absolute dumpster fire.
Oh, trust me. They're not the absolute worst. In my opinion, they're the worst. And that's actually another school from the Big East. Who's that? DePaul. Oh, yes. Home of the Blue Demons. They didn't really play like they were demons at all. They pretty much played like they were the little baby angels. You want to suck their thumbs while they're sleeping. Now, did you see they just hired Chris Holtman, the old Ohio State coach. That is going to be an interesting move.
I think they're definitely going to do better, but I don't think they're still going to be as good right now. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I don't know, maybe. There's always just that one big move that can really make you or can really break you. 100%. Well, Cam, we're sitting here. I really don't want to sound like I'm calling myself a prophet, but we're sitting here, two minutes left in the first half. Virginia has a measly 14 points.
Unfortunately, they do. They are trailing to Colorado State. That's brutal. They're down 11 points. 11 points for them is like the equivalent of 30 to most teams. But it is still the first half. We still have a whole other half to go. But before I officially conclude this controversial episode, go ahead and just get your final predictions for at least tonight's game and then possibly some of your big predictions for all of March Madness and what you expect.
So the floor is now yours. Man, I mean, yeah, I really like a couple of those sleeper teams. You know, James Madison I really like. Yep, James Madison, Grand Canyon. Yep. Drake. Michigan State, Drake. NC State is another one. Yeah. Now, Cam, do you have a favorite player in this March Madness? Could you name one? That one is a little harder. You can't say Jace Rayl. Well, I can't do that anyway. Well, that's honestly just hard in general anyway because March Madness just makes it so unique.
But there's at least a player that I feel like that has the most expectations and is really going to have. I feel like it's going to be Purdue's very own Zach Eaddy. Okay. Yeah. Like everyone I feel like will expect him to also become the next or controversial statement, the white version of Taco Fall. Wow. Really? Well, he's just as tall as him, honestly, but not exactly. Plus, Taco Fall is much skinnier. I mean, he is a tall dude.
That's true. He was only like 300 pounds. He is that skinny for a tall giant man. You're right. You're right. Do you remember that game, Taco Fall and UCF versus Duke in March Madness? Absolutely. Absolute classic. That was incredible. Ever since then, Central Florida has not been the same, but they will get there eventually. That's all we can hope for. But with that being said, we are officially out of time for tonight. Well, technically we extended time because this is a March Madness special.
But that officially concludes this episode of Big Cam's Controversial Podcast. I'm your host, The Big, and the controversial himself, Big Cam. Thank you to my guest, Jimmy Davidson. Who knows? I'll give a shout out to your brother, Marcus, my inaugural guest. Who knows? Maybe say something controversial about him later. Thank you to my good brother, Jimmy. And that concludes this podcast. We will see you next time right here on Big Cam's Controversial Podcast.
